Is the 2020 TRD Pro worth the extra cash over a Limited?

Having a hard time deciding on a new truck...

Looking at this 2019 limited...I got the dealer down to $42k with two sets of wheels...I'm thinking I'd have to drop about $2-3k on tires/tint/level/new badges/maybe chrome delete

    https://www.colonialdodgechryslerje...chusetts-96a52fce0a0e0a9344656a410478843c.htm

But then I saw this...which I would say is a much better looking truck, and I think I would like the push button start...

    https://www.imperialcars.com/used/Toyota/2020-Toyota-Tundra-a91884430a0e0a9304ea66bffcfb22f4.htm

I bet I can get them to $52k on the TRD...so a $10k difference...but not having to mod the TRD Pro makes it closer to $7k....

I use the truck for work but it's nothing very demanding...I'm going to miss the bed of my double cab... I guess money isn't really a problem, I can swing the difference, just not sure if its truly worth dropping another $7-$10k in cash..

    What would you do?

For me, a large facet would be whether or not I would alter the suspension or rims... If you were to be completely satisfied with both as is on the Pro, then get the Pro.

The push button and no chrome would be a bonus.. I hate my chrome.

    Too many mods to come

I’d save that cash and put it into aftermarket mods.

To me - no, it’s not worth 7k more.

    Your mileage may vary.

Your moving up a year and equal mileage - for POTENTIALLY 7k (remember - you said you think you can get them to 52 - so not a guaranteed price).

Pro’s will always command a premium - but my hard earned cash - I’d put 7k back in savings and mod a limited to my needs/wants. At 5 - it’s closer, 4 I’d go with the Pro for reference - but again just me.

Personally think 52k for a 2020 Pro with 50k miles is a tad high - given current market conditions - but understood some markets are higher. When I bought my 21 - (June 21) had a local used car lot with a used 21 with 9k on it and that’s what they offered it for then. Not that the truck won’t last 300k miles - just 50k is a lot and pushes you down a tier in eyes of banks and dealers. After racking up 80k or so - some places get more cautious on cars.

I’ve seen lunar rock 21s with mods asking 59k recently and multi comments from people saying it was overpriced. Market sentiment has changed a tad. I’d watch forums and FB groups - as good chance you can find what you want or better and have it shipped to you for a better price.

    Two votes for the limited!

I don’t think I would mod the pro other than tinting the front.

I can’t find any 2019/2020 Pro’s for less than $50k. They seem to be averaging $52-$54k (listing prices). The limited they had at $47k!

They were having trouble balancing the aftermarket rims…so they came down in price. It’s a nice truck.

2019 vs 2020???…the TRD seems to have the limited trim (leather/heated seats/roof)

That’s a pretty good deal if you can get the limited for $42k. Those go for much more most places lately. First post I’ve seen with prices that appear to be cooling off finally. You could get pro suspension and BBS wheels with tires for less than 4K if you wanna “Pro” that limited. They pop up here all the time.

Yeah I think it's a good price on the Limited. They had me at $44k but couldn't figure out how to properly balance the aftermarket rims...so dropped it to $42k when I threatened to walk. They put the factory rims back on it. The limited is literally right across the street from my office

I haven't even looked at the Pro...

I would go for the limited and then use some of that $ savings for mod that you want. That $ would go a long way to improving the limited well beyond the TRD Pro.

If you like to upgrade your truck than go with the Limited and have fun with the mods. You may not be able to get the TRD pro at $52 but who knows. Both truck look great, good luck!

I say no, it's not worth it.

If you want to have an off road beast, buy a Limited TRD Off Road and mod it up. Use the difference and buy high-quality mods

TRD Pros and Ford Raptors are for people to want to keep it relatively stock. No point in getting a Pro and changing out all the suspension and wheels. After that, you're basically just left with a tailgate stamp and marker lights lol

Pro shocks with 50k miles on them don’t bring $3k. I see them on here for $1500 at best. The BBS wheels bring $1500-2000. So you buy the limited, then add the $3-4k in parts off of someone else’s pro, and voila, a limited pro. For $45k all in no less.

Thanks to all of you guys for responding! Looks like the limited is the way to go!

I’m driving a 2018 4.6L double cab SR5 (which I love) so this should be a nice upgrade!

But the Pro exhaust and push button start do sound appealing

i was in your boat, decided on the pro because of resale value. remember that we are right now in an inflated market. after the drop back down to reality in a year or so the Limited wont be worth nearly as much. the pro will.

limited is only a leather seat SR5, a Pro is always a Pro that's why they put a stamp on the bed, if you want a limited, go buy a reg SR5 and add leather seats and led headlights.

I'm also liking the fact the TRD is a year newer. 2019 seems like forever ago! Tough decision. I think i need to go look at the Pro tomorrow. I'll see what they will do on the price. The market has cooled a bit. I will mod the limited if i buy it, but I'd be happy with the PRO the way it is.

In '20 they based the Pro package off the '20 Limited rather than the SR5 for the '19 Pro. It also has the latest tech for gen 2.5. Buy it once, buy it right.

How long do you intend on keeping it? If it is for an extended period of time, I’d go Pro. The small but effective modernization of the 2020 (push button start, proximity entry, CarPlay, shark fin antenna, etc) all will help it feel less archaic in the long term.

If you are looking at one to build, then I would wait until you find a Platinum. Door handles and mirror caps are cheap / easy to color match, and no other color matching / de-chrome needed. And the interior leather is a lot better, along with a host of other smaller nicer interior refinements and features.

A couple more things I should note.

I am a small business owner. I use the truck to carry light loads to and from my vendors (maybe 1x a month). I take loads of trash to the dumpster across the parking lot.

I only drive about 5k miles per year on the truck.

If you were hauling or towing heavy, I would say to definitely not get the Pro since that's not what it's intended for.

    Poor man's limited; Fox 2.0 & 5100s; 285/70 RG
The mileage is negligible for the 2 vehicles. As other's have mentioned, the 2020 pro is based off a limited trim, not Sr5 as per previous iterations. So you already get the good stuff of a limited, (leather, sunroof -if you want one- heated seats, etc). My preference would be the pro. The aftermarket "rims" on that limited STINK. And the OEM limited's aren't really my taste either. So you're looking $1200-1600 for new wheels. Then at least the same for new all terrain tires (if that's your thing). Suspension to "match" the pro's stance/performance - you're in for another $2k, $2500 at least. And these are just purchase prices, tack on some labor if you aren't installing yourself. That's $5.5+k. A lot of chrome delete on that limited too. Good luck getting that completely done for less than $1500. There's your $7k difference. Add that you get CarPlay and push button start on the Pro now, and you've got a pretty great set up.
