Here’s an update to the theft, had the stolen one replaced finally with magnaflow and a magnaflow dual exhaust, shortly after that got a CIL, added bungs and sure enough two weeks later I now have a CIL again for the same issue. Any ideas what could be causing the CIL to keep turning on?

A few people have posted that aftermarket cats have them a CEL. I don’t remember any solution other than getting OEM cats.

Getting codes because Tundras like OEM cats? Lots of posts about that.

What about taking it to a tune shop and having the tolerance changed in the computer, that’s what the shop that did the cats is telling me

It’s literally the only one my insurance would work with, when I gave them the estimate from Toyota their answer to me was clearly “ we will only cover the most cost effective shop” even though I have full coverage

Probably too late since your insurance already paid for a repair, but never take the insurances first offer. They’re out to make money and will always start with the lowest fix. Others who have had their cats stolen said their insurance tried the same thing but gave in when pressed and paid for OEM. I think the only one who said their insurance wouldn’t had State Farm.

Most insurance companies have been covering the cost of OEM replacements.

I pushed for OEM and progressive stated they will not cover OEM, especially not from the dealership, we went back and forth for a month and they wouldn’t budge, and being with a truck for a month was not easy, and no they wouldn’t cover a rental for the whole time since the truck wasn’t parked at a shop lol

I gave them several shops in south Florida, and was told they don’t work with them that I had to use their places that’s why it took so long, but if they are covering OEM do it and wait, the headaches that come after aren’t fun

Mine were stolen in May. Ended up buying a 4runner while I wait. I did put a straight pipe in a few weeks ago so i could drive around town.

Tell progressive that it’s not fixed nor drivable due to the CEL and thats what you pay them for. Also tell that that their shop is suggesting you alter the ecu to change emissions specs and that’s not acceptable. Might need a letter from a lawyer and a change of insurance once it’s all done.

    Some.
Not only tell them that it is not acceptable, but that the shop they told you to use is telling you to violate federal law (Clean Air Act) by tampering with an emissions monitoring device and that the parts already installed are in fact already a violation of federal law (CAA) because they are not equivalent to the OE parts that the vehicle was designed to use.

Not only do you need OEM cats, but you need new a new auto insurance provider.
State farm paid over $6K to replace my cats and my dealership fixed it.
State farm paid $1200 for 1 month of rental (their cap per claim) and Toyota paid for the other 7 months.
Another benefit of a dealership doing the repair, although not every dealership provided that.
My dearlership paid rental for over 100 vehicles waiting on cat parts over the last year.

You need to get up someone's ass at Progressive.
Your vehicle has not been repaired..:(

That might have been me. I have State Farm and the discussion with them was simple, I tried to explain about the issues with non-OEM cats and they put on a broken record (remember those) saying "Your policy allows the use of non-OEM parts 'click' Your policy allows the use of non-OEM parts 'click' Your policy allows the use of non-OEM parts 'click'" until I decided wasting more time wasn't worth the effort. I know that's what they want you to do, but I figured they have better lawyers on payroll than I could afford to hire. OEM cats are on order, insurance covered about half the price.

Progressive is fine as long as you are willing to sue them. If not pay 3 or 4 times the premium and go with State Farm

I put the Magna Flow after my cats were taken and now have over 10,000 miles with no codes. The main issue is making sure you use the Denso O2 sensors and make sure you put them on the correct sides of the truck.

After mine where stollen, the insurance co quoted CATS from an auto parts store and I want to say they quoted about $1300. Took it to a local shop and they said they used an OEM equivalent and quoted $3500. Insurance finally approved it. Could not wait 6 months for Toyota ones. So, they replaced them and with in 6-8 weeks it through a CEL P0430 “Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)”. I cleared it, to see if it was just a fluke and would go away. 3 days later, same code. Cleared 4 more times and then I took it back to the shop. They could not find any issues/leaks, so they replaced the CATS under warranty. 6 hours later…… CEL on!!! I was pissed. Back to the shop. This time it was code P013C.

They trouble shot the wiring and the system and found a bad O2 sensor. Replaced it and now it has been a month with no codes. “Finger Crossed”.

So, if you can get the code read, that will give you an idea what is causing it and let us know, so we can try to help.

USAA told me to pound sand after going back and forth with them on OEM cats. I was willing to pay the extra for OEM anyway, but they were backordered for so long I ended up going with aftermarket Magnaflow. The Magnaflows eventually threw the “cat inefficiency” code after about a month or two (also replaced with OEM sensors). It was intermittent at first, but now it always comes on, even after clearing it. I’m about 6 to 7 months now waiting on the dealer’s list for OEM cats. I just called them last week for an update - still on backorder.
