2022 Tundra Limited tailgate not opening

After only having the truck since 10/8, the tailgate quit opening when pressing the release on key fob, taillight, and handle. Can hear the right side of latch wanting to release but nothing on the left side. Anyone else have this issue?

 

Will it open any other way?

 

No, we've tried locking and unlocking and then pushing every release button. Guess it'll have to go to the dealership...

 

Is there no physical handle to pull and unlatch the tailgate to open it on the 22?

 

Try pushing the tailgate in towards the truck and then opening. Sometime the electronic locking/unlocking mechanism will not catch properly and it might not open.

 

There is a handle, but it doesn't move. There's an electronic button under there similar to opening rear hatch on an SUV.

 

Ive tried pushing in towards the truck and then hitting the release button on the tailgate, but still no luck. I didn't know if anyone else had this issue, and what they might have done to fix it? Just hate to take it to the dealership already.

 

I would assume an actuator has gone bad or maybe a clip on the left rod came off since it sounds like it isn't necessarily bound up.

 

Sure it has something to do with locking and unlocking electronically.

 

Was surprised when I first opened the tailgate

 

There is actually 2 buttons in the tailgate handle, one shape like a rectangle/bar is for the tailgate, the other round and to the right/passenger side is to lock all the doors.

 

Same, but I really like it because it works via proximity key, so I don't need to lock/unlock the truck to lock/unlock the tailgate. The tailgate only opens if I have the key or all doors are unlocked. Very useful feature!

 

Any updates on this. Mine just started not opening

 

Yeah, took mine to the dealership and they said that one of the cables came unattached. They said by the way it had looked, that it probably just wasn't attached probably at the factory.

 

They are trying to tell me aftermarket lights in the front are shorting out the relay for the tailgate. Yet with the key fob the relay audibly activates

 

My 2023 Platinum just stopped working I guess I'll be heading to the dealership soon.

 

So had a similar issue on my 2022 this evening. Heard the actuator release on the tail gate and would slightly pop, release slightly but not actually go down. Also have the factory taneau cover so that slight but of travel allowed me to get a paint stirring stick slid in to release the taneau cover cable. Back to the point, I noticed the actuator has a quick two stage sound of release and then lock. I pushed the button and between the two sounds, pulled the tailgate and it finally came down. Noticed after getting it down, some loose gravel from a recent haul was stuck in the right side release. Hope this helps.

 

Mine seized so the dealer replaced it and installed a new fuse since it blew when the tailgate lock seized.
