Added TRD rear sway bar kit

I will say it makes a big difference for driving the vehicle in town and highway like I do. Glad I did it.

Looking good. Underbody colors doesn't matter. Even exactly same color looks different when installed underbody.

 

You will really notice the difference with a camper or a heavy load.

 

Hellwig also makes decent sway bars. Adjustable and non-adjustable versions depending on rear lift set up. Wouldn't be surprised if the TRD sway bar is made by Hellwig.

 

On the off ramp last night, took it at 65mph handled like my FJ.

 

If your asking why I didn't paint the TRD SAWY BAR KIT, That would be like painting the springs and the CAI. I'm not at a "white party" or in this case an "inferno party" I'm not here to change TRD colors, just add some nice character to my truck. Besides it looks just enough but not too much as is.

By the way, Is the TRD sway bar around $275 or so not installed?

 

Dude, that's way too much to pay. I found mine on Craig's List for less than $200.

 

I have been looking for one one Craig's. Did you happen to put quick disconnects on or do you think you need them? Just curious how yours reacts if at all when you are off pavement.

 

I like that setup. A lot.

 

I didn't use any quick disconnects, the Tundra is too wide for the trails up here. I've done the off-road thing and sold my Tacoma to someone that'll use it. It became such that ultimately it was too impractical for daily use and was a waste to street it. I have different project to spend "extra" on.

That being said, on the Forest Roads, the rear TRD sway bar stiffens the ride up against any articulation, my having the Sequoia sway bar up front contributes to that I'm sure, as well as the truck being a "little" lighter (RCSB)

Also, I would think that rotating the rear sway bar in the manner demonstrated in the picture above would decrease the leverage that the links would put on the bar lessening its effectiveness. I'm of the argument that if you are going to off-road your truck, don't bother wasting money on the sway bar, buy something for off-road. FWIW

 

I've taken my Tundra all over various trails and narrow crappy mining roads. It can be dicey at times. I do have to pull my mirrors in at times. The only problem I have on rare occasions is turning around, which does suck. I bought my Tundra for the off road thing. I have bought all my past 4X4's for the off road thing.It's probably too wide for 5% of the trails/mining roads here and I've been wheeling here for 11 years over a lot of the major passes and not so major. Spend a lot of time up near James Peak with all the other Jeeps and trucks up there on all the "narrow" trails. For those rare times times I can't use my Tundra I'll use the Jeepster. Actually the wider Tundra wheel base comes in handy since I don't have to deal with Jeep trail/road ruts. I'm obviously not talking about rock crawler trails. I've only had to stop a couple of times because of being too wide and didn't want to shear off sheet metal. If you don't want scratches stay on the highway is my motto.

With sway bar quick disconnects you can have the best of both worlds. On or offroad.

 

i want to add one. i have 4" blocks. i check out hell wig and they don't really have anything that says for a lift.

 

also looking at pictures on google and it seems people mount them differently as well

 

I have their catalog and they have one for stock height and one that can be adjusted but don't recall how much it can be adjusted. You should call Hellwig for specifics.

 

I've been here a bit longer and tend toward the super technical, sketchy, body damage trails. I like that challenge, but I don't have the room for any more vehicles.

I understand that the sway bar does not change suspension travel (up and down of both wheels at the same time), it resists articulation (one wheel moving rising or dropping when the other is moving in the opposite direction or not moving at all). I believe that there is a difference, albeit possibly unperceivable, when the sway bar is incorrectly installed as in the pictured. There's a reason that it is instructed to be installed flat, that's part of the reason why some are adjustable and why lifted trucks need longer links. I think that I would be able to show what I'd like to with a pencil and a napkin, but can't think how to here in text. It has to do with how the force of motion is applied perpendicularly to the ends of the bar rather than at an obtuse or acute angle. *grimaces in frustration*

 

Been wheeling for 43 years. Cali, Baja, Oregon,Washington, BC, Nevada, Alaska, Japan, Philippines, here. I've developed a good sense of what four wheeling is about over that time.

 

I do plan on fixing up the Jeepster so I can hit some of those crazier trails, but it's going to take a lot of work and $. And a lot of time. Should be fun.

 

Naw, if you're comfortable doing it that way, I have no objections. My frustration and mention of the napkin is because I can't seem to put into words what I'm trying to say, I feel I could draw it though, or wave my hands around a bunch.

 

It's installed and yes $250.00 + $32.00 labor for install

 

Fair price. Especially labor. Not bad at all.

 

Where/ Who did you buy the sway bar from? I was just looking on line for one.
