I'm not sure of they ship empty but the left side was completely empty. Even after filling I had the same uneven stance, but found that my front left was about 1/2" lower than the right as well. Shock seems to be holding a charge so it's possible the shop that installed never checked them.. I wouldn't be surprised as I was thoroughly unimpressed with their level of service and apparent disregard for the details.

I adjusted the coilover on the driver's side and evened the front out, now I only see about a 3/8" difference on the rear.

There is also about a 1/4" difference now in how far the coilover is threaded down from the left to right sides. I hope that doesn't translate to some issue or wierdness in the ride quality. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

I might be ok as is but going to go get an alignment tomorrow.

I'll report back if anything out of the ordinary happens.

My Tundra has the same slight "lean" and I'm running with OME setup with ToyTec shackles. Same issue whether you run with Coaches...I don't lose sleep over that at all. What little sleep I lose tonite is going down Mammoth Gulch in 2nd because my dog is in back and I had 3 little kids in the cab..go around a tight corner and four 4X4's hauling ass up. I had to hit the ditch and scratched the hell on my passenger side with some Spruce tree limbs. Not the first time but I'm getting tired of certain wheelers not respecting. It's one thing to haul ass and have some fun but not on a main access "road" to get to crazy ass wheeling area. Last thing I worry about is a slight lean. My Tundra is not a show truck. Don't need perfect "look"..What I need is a good locker and not to feed my grandkids high sugar smores before they hit the rack in my tent when I'm dog tired.

    Edit: Sarcasm while tired...heh heh

Some minor variance is expected but an inch is extreme.

I have a good deal of scratches and minor dings from offloading as well. I dont do anything insane but I like to take moderate, 4wd required trails often. My right side has some good scratches from sage from when I rescued a Tacoma out of the mud at 2 am.

No sir, they do not. Mine did not come empty. I'm more worried about the air being added in there opposed to N2.

    I was as well.

You wouldn't mind giving them a call and enlighten them on what has been going on? Thanks Sean.

Hope you figure it out @Backslider
I agree w you that an inch is a little too much to be a lean issue.

If u still need to service shock, find your small airport, look for a fbo(works on aircraft pumps gas, etc.) find a a&p mechanic , they should be able to help you, nitro is used in aircraft struts(shocks). The schraeder valve more than likely is the same...

I love how everyone is going off on this topic. All the 4x4 shops around here say it's seriously not an issue for a temp fix, and is in fact better than driving them with no charge at all.

Maybe @ToyTec Lifts can chime in here?

I had air charged shocks on my Suburban, always put standard compressed air in them, they lasted for many, many years..

Fox actually provides a hand pump that goes up to 300 PSI and fills shocks with compressed air...

If having regular air in these shocks for a couple of days while I figure out how to get them properly filled is as bad as you guys are making it out to be I should probably go with a different set.. I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful and I do appreciate the help, but I'm absolutely serious when I say that if running for a couple days (actually sitting in the garage after running my errands on Saturday) with compressed air instead of nitrogen is going to break them then it was a $500 lesson in what shocks not to get.

That all being said, I'm almost positive that Toytec is going to say it ain't no big thang.

Looking through the documentation for these shocks there is no warning or indicator at all that o2 is unacceptable. There are really no technical specifications on the Toytec website.

Now you guys have me all worried about something that wasn't even my original problem. =\

I design and build robots that cut and fold corrugate for supply-chain and distribution, my machines run primarily off of Festo pneumatic components. I am away of the problems with water and or oil in the air, but it's something that we very rarely encounter and only in places where the environment is so terribly shitty that everyone there probably already has lung cancer. Festo solenoids are plastic with steel and aluminum internals, and their cylinders and pushers are typically aluminum bodies with steel cylinders. I have honestly never see one of those go bad due to poor air quality. Those internals have to be pretty similar (as far as materials) to the festo cylinder internals. Both are shock absorbers but for different applications..

Or am I just trying to find a silver lining?

    Hey @Backslider,
Our shocks come out of the box ready to bolt on, there is no need to fill yourself with N2. We HIGHLY recommend not putting compressed air into the shock as they are not designed for that,

Was the lean happening before you checked pressure or afterwards? I don't see how a rear shock would effect a lean like that.

Shoot me a PM and we can get to the bottom of this asap for you.

    Thanks

The lean occurred before I checked the pressure. It has had a slight lean (droops on the driver side) since install, but it was noticeably worse when I went out on Saturday morning and saw the rear of the truck.

It's possible it's not the shock but they were not evenly charged. The left shock had no charge and the right was only around 62lbs if I recall correctly. This is the first time I have checked the pressure and was prompted to do so due to the leaning.

I just found a suspension shop here that has no loss system and will bleed everything out and recharge the shocks up to whatever I specify. I apologize if I seemed a little Snappy during this threat, text doesn't necessarily come out with the correct tone. I'm also just a little frustrated that this is happening and that I am an idiot and potentially screwed my s*** up.

Glad you found a shop to charge with nitrogen. I haven't had issues with mine. Haven't checked the pressure yet. I do have the Toyota Lean. Slightly corrected by adjusting Coilovers but rear remains with a slight lean. It is common. No pressure or low pressure in the shocks is not common. Corrected air pressure might help the lean a bit but won't correct it because it's not the shocks that provide the lift.

I'm actually curious of the shop that I went to messed with them because they don't seem to be losing pressure now. I have never adjusted them or check the pressure or anything at all until yesterday or Saturday rather when I noticed the lean.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were the shop that did it because they were a little bit dishonest with me about my alignment anyway. They also didn't adjust the coil overs at all after putting on the truck they just threw them on their despite the driver-side lean, and made no attempt to dial them in properly.

From now on I go only to Jack It or Fat Bob's Garage.

I'm glad you found a shop to charge it properly!!!

I wouldn't imagine the shop would even mess with the pressure with the shocks at all...

Please keep me in the loop on this!

Yeah, thanks you guys for being so responsive.

Do you have a recommended pressure? I am going to get a no loss pressure checker so i can monitor and see if they hold pressure or lose it.

I asked the shop to fill to 175lbs for now. Figured right in the middle of your specs should be good.

The ride certainly improved after adding air on Saturday so we will see how it goes.

Yet another opportunity for @ToyTec Lifts to show off their great customer service. I'm sure there are some vendors who wouldnt have handled that as well. I bought my Tacoma lift kit and some extra parts from them, and will definitely be giving them business with future tundra purchases.

Glad @ToyTec Lifts answered your questions @Backslider.

I would be pissed as well, and discussing a different problem than the original can set someone off. However, we are trying to teach you something and not do further harm than good. This thread might help someone else out in the future. Some people just buy "whatever" and do not even know how it works, how it can be adjusted to fit your needs.

The 300 psi air pump that Fox makes is not for a CO shock. It is for an air shock. Totally different system. There were even shocks with airbags on them at one time. Not many used them in the rock crawling community. I used to use one for my Fox shocks on my Mountain bike.

Now to comment on the 4x4 shops. I pretty much live in Jeep, Tacoma, and Offroad Mecca heaven (UT is another place). There are only a few shops in this state I would even let touch my junk. There is a shop here in town (tanners 4x4) that I'm surprised they are still alive...seriously. Don't let them know your rig is broke down in the mountains, they are not beneath making a night run and stripping your shit down to the frame, and they have been caught twice that I know of. Those mother Fr's better realize some people carry weapons and shovels with them on the trail.
4x4 shops are popping up everywhere, and to get quality work done it takes a metric assload of money. To put this in perspective, my buddy just posted this today:

    IMG_1786.jpg

I guarantee he has over 70k into it. I will be watching for him selling his 38' Work and Play toy-hauler. Then I would be set!!!
My point is, it is hard to find a reputable shop in this industry. When you do, treat them right and they will treat you right. Mistakes happen and if they take care of it for you as a reputable business will, more reason to boost their business.
I will most likely never do business with ToyTec (unless my wife wants to lift her Tacoma...doubt that) but often recommend them due to the involvement, the way they present themselves online and in person, and the outstanding customer service they provide. What's not to like?
I don't think your problem is a ToyTec problem, but an easy adjustment that can be made.

You can roll with me either way Joon. However, if you did pull 50k out of your mattress, you would roll past me. That Jeep is bad ass. For that kind of coin, a LS motor would be required. An Ultra 4 buggy can be purchased for that kind of money.

To your point about the 4x4 shops, I will never go to M&M Automotive again. I'm am almost certain they just swapped out my old coilovers and threw in the new ones without taking any before and after measurements, or even adjusting the installed coilovers at all. When I adjusted them the anodization on the black aluminum collar showed some usage markings, before I adjusted them that collar looked like it just came off the assembly line. There was always a minor lean in the front and it just got worse over time, which I understand is to be expected as springs and suspension parts settle, but getting them level up front will probably minimize this as much as possible.

I had to make a 1/2" adjustment to the driver side yesterday which in my opinion (I build robots, not trucks, so admittedly my knowledge is based on what I learn here and from other resources) will require a new alignment.

To give you guys an idea of my experience with M&M (this shop does all the work for any and all Karl Malone dealerships and seems to be owned directly by Karl Malone Mitsubishi), they misquoted me on price multiple times. They kind of surprised me on the day of install when I arrived and learned it was going to cost $250 more than I was quoted. The work order and scope of the job was correct in their system, but someone missed something or something and it was more than they told me on the phone. By that time I was already there and had made arrangements for transport and time, and $250 wasn't going to ruin all of that.

They told me it would be done by 3PM, when I called they said they literally hadn't even started on it, but don't worry it would be done by 6 when they close and it was an easy job. I think because of this they put a big rush on it. They should have either kept it another day or just started on it when they said they would. I understand things happen and could have made arrangements for them to keep it another day and do it right.

Show up after 6 and get the vehicle from the dealership sales desk as the shop itself was closed by then. Alignment felt a little off and the front end was noticeably lower than when I brought it in and had a very minor lean. Mentioned both of these things when I brought it in so they could check everything after 500 miles. Asked for my alignment printout and got a generic sheet with vehicle information on it that was not my own. Asked for before and after measurements and was told they didn't record them. My normal shop keeps all of this information and even scans it and enters into their system so they have a history of your vehicle.

Called M&M over the weekend and expressed, politely, to them that I feel that they just quickly slapped some parts on my truck and didn't spend any time really dialing it in or aligning it properly. I was told that the manager would call me back before noon - it's two days later and I still haven't heard from him. I told them I don't want anything from them; no money back, no fixing the problem, just want to express to them that I don't feel like they are very thorough.

I'm still at a loss as to how one side on the rear had a partial charge and the other side was empty. After filling to 175PSI it's a night and day difference in the rear. I had some looseygooseyness that is gone now. I don't think these shocks ever had a proper charge in them.. Not sure really how that happened.

In any case most of the lean is sorted out now, though some persists. It drives me crazy to be honest because I'm pretty anal about things like that. I recommend Fat Bob's Garage or Jack It if you're in the Salt Lake or Ogden areas. I tried to go somewhere that was logistically more convenient and I regret it. I don't think M&M is in the business of doing ultra quality work because they have guaranteed income/business simply due to the nature of the way they are set up - they are guaranteed to have a full shop all the time as they put aftermarket parts on factory new vehicles to be sold at an incredible mark up with their partnership dealers. I have also learned that Karl Malone Toyota is full of sleazy salesturds and that's why I go to Toyota Bountiful now. I guess it makes sense that their subsidiary company would be a shit hole too.

Again, thanks everyone for your help. I am going to run like this a couple days and see if that lean comes back. If so I'll report again.

    /rant
