TBS’s info was a great help. My local dealer ended up where I wanted to be, platinum 10yr 100k 0 deductible for $1545. All I had to do was ask. The first extended warranty I’ve ever purchased in my life…never thought it would be on a Toyota!

I just picked up my 22 SR5 TRD Off-road last week. The dealer was a joke and wanted $20k over MSRP but I got them down to $800 over. I didn’t dare ask about the extended warranty. TBS would you be willing to shoot me over the extended info also? Thank!

    Hi All,

I'm picking up my new Tundra now

The finance manager insists that the price quoted by other dealers out of California is too low, and will not be accepted in CA service. He says that what I got quoted by dealer in Kansas is $800 less than his cost...

Is anyone from California who bought warrant from out of state and has any knowledge of extended warranty issues?

I'm not quite sure how they could deny it :notsure:…. I got a receipt from the dude/dealer you are talking about when I bought mine, and then I received paperwork from Toyota (not the specific dealership) annotating the coverage, etc.. Now when any dealer pulls up my VIN, they can see the extended coverage specifically connected to my vehicle. I would think that if any dealer denied you service, a couple of unpleasant phone calls would resolve it, although I wouldn't be real comfortable w/them servicing my truck….

Have you tried to go to any dealer and ask them to double check if you have extended warranty added to your vin, and if they accept it?

    Which state are you in?

I know it sounds stupid but the finance manager was very ademant they don't accept such out of state warranty at their dealership, and it's impossible how low the pricing was, even below their own dealer cost. Of course he's probably lying but I want to make sure...

I live in Oregon, and my local dealer acknowledged the coverage and didn't bat an eye about it. I would have got up from the finance desk, walked straight into service and asked WTF?? I'm pretty sure the answer would have been different, but I'm no longer in CA so I have no basis other than my own out of state experience and common sense…

When my wife bought her Subaru (this year), the finance dude was trying to sell the add-ons and was adamant if we bought the extended warranty elsewhere or at a later time that our coverage would be less than if we bought right then. Complete bullshit, I got up went out and grabbed our sales dude and told him the deal is about to unwind because I refuse to do business w/someone that is going to lie to me. Sales Manager went in the office and dude had a completely different attitude.

I think the biggest problem right now is supply and demand, and they know you can't just drive to another dealer and grab what you want w/o bullshit and their taking advantage of that.

Seriously though, call Toyota and get an answer to your question from the source. Or just call a few CA dealers service departments and tell them that you're traveling from out of state have an issue that you believe is covered by the extended warranty and want to verify they honor it before you bring the vehicle in...

So if I move to California next year nobody is going to honor my warranty? Sounds wrong.

And to all this banter about out of state vs in state.
A Toyota warranty can be purchased at any Toyota dealership in the lower 48 and will be honored at any other Toyota dealership in the lower 48.

I wonder what is defined as a "participating Toyota dealership?" This is from Toyotafinancial.com. You'd think that to be a Toyota dealer, you'd be required to "participate" in Toyota sold/backed products.

    More searching found this:

    upload_2022-10-9_11-8-14.jpg

That said, I'm sure that if a dealership service department denied you, Toyota corporate would jump on that in a second. Otherwise a massive negative PR campaign could ensue which would not be good for the brand. I say, purchase away without fear; you will get taken care of. Some dealers just hate to do warranty service since they get paid much less for warranty repair hours billed to Toyota, versus fully loaded pricing for non-warranty repairs. I have had many extended warranty repairs from multiple brands denied, only to have that decision reversed quickly once I reach out to the brand's consumer affairs department, it's just part of the game, unfortunately.

Not here. This thread is for purchasing warranty through Toyota. There are plenty of warranties available for used vehicles, but the Toyota extended warranty is only for new vehicles or vehicles still under their 3 year / 36,000 mile factory warranty.

    Sorry for the late response.
We have been in the backcountry around Moab and the cell coverage is non-existent. Beautiful country.
Needles Overlook was my favorite vista.

PM's have been sent. If I missed someone I apologize. Please ask again.
