    Hello,

I had my 2021 Tundra parked outside of the garage for a week, and that was enough time for a Rat to move in.

They chewed through a black, red and green wire on the back side of the engine. I am having a hard time figuring out where the wires go to. The truck will start, but all the dash lights are on. It seems like the wires might go under the intake manifold. Is there a sensor under there with a red, black and green wire? The area circled is the general area of where the wires are behind the engine.

    Thank you PXL_20221006_181003247.MP~2.jpg PXL_20221006_211502516.jpg

That harness doesn’t go completely under the manifold, it goes around the back side of it. I installed the power wires for my ARB harness and zip tied them to that exact harness when I ran them to the battery last weekend. That’s gonna be a tough job to fix because access is so tight. Personally I would solder and heat shrink any wires needing to be replaced but you could get away with weatherproof crimps as well. Damn rats! Sorry for the bad luck!

Thank you for the reply. Based on the research I have done; I think those wires are coming out from under the manifold and they go to the crank position sensor.
Luckily you can buy that harness part # 82219-0C020
We will see. I should probably get a OBD2 scanner to confirm.

Ckp would likely cause major drivability issues since that reading controls timing, fuel delivery, etc. Does it run fine beside the MIL being on? Definitely scan it to get you an idea of what they might be.

I had a rat in my truck, no damage, and my wife’s Lexus. Hers, the rat ate through the windshield wiper fluid hose, that goodness it was only that. After that I bought the green poison squares and broke them in fours. Placed them around the engine bay and replaced as needed. Rat is dead now. Sucks this happened. Thanks for the reminder to go and check though.

Total bummer. I had to get a few barn cats for my area.

He comes inside for about 10 minutes. He then wants to get back outside.

He’s pretty feral. I can’t even pick him up without becoming mince meat.

I read a thread about mice in cabin filters. I checked mine and it was ok. I got in my console for something and corn kernels fell out the back of the lid. Took it apart and found this. I set some mouse traps inside the truck and in the engine bay. Nothing in the truck. Got one in the engine bay. He was the only one I got in about two weeks of setting the traps. I still can’t figure it out how it got the kernels in there. F2AAD06A-D318-479D-90E3-1B088C21676C.jpg29210859-AF59-48A2-A6C3-76179F406617.jpg

    Anytime my truck sits for more than 2 days I make sure to;
    -Close all vents
-Put air handler to recirculate (read it closes the fresh air vent, figured it might be one less entry method, maybe?)
-Place a few cotton balls soaked with peppermint oil concentrate, I've got a few taped to the bottom of the engine cowl cover, and then finally I put some drops on the sound deadening material on the engine
-Finally I place a Victor Rodent killer trap on top of the cowl, figured this way if there are creatures in there, they'll at least nibble and check out the poison (its a clear trap so you can see if the bait block has been chewed on).

Just went in for the 15k service on my '21 Tundra and they found that a mouse had chewed through the cabin filter. Which explains why I found a mouse chewed napkin in my center console about a month ago. The dealer installed a relatively fine metal mesh (maybe 1/16" squares) in cabin air intake and engine air intake for a mere $200. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than I could provide info to folks on a DIY mesh install.

Check your cabin air filter while your at it. Dont want to be breathing a mouse toilet.

Cats and traps are you friends.
Except rat traps can be dangerous for kids.
Poison is dangerous as anything that eats the dying animal will likely be poisoned too.
I have mouse traps all throughout my garage, and plentiful cats outside for rodent control.
Some people swear by flashing LEDs in the engine compartment.

And after they eat poison they will look for water. I had one chew through a livewell hose in the boat after putting out poison. Luckily it was right under a floor drain. I went fishing and had to run bilge pump constantly.
