I gotta get everything out of the garage this weekend. Floor gets done on Monday. I’m not too far behind but not ahead. I tore out the workbench but have to decide if I’m keeping the wooden shelves or not. Which hinges on if I’m moving the metal shelves or not. Which would allow 2 cars in the garage if I did. So it’s kind of tempting.

    What an awesome offer!
Yes, I bought another. Worked for a little bit, then stopped working. So I haven’t figured out what’s causing my problem. Or which of those harnesses that all seem to connect, it could be.

Lol, catching up on all the things that haven't been addressed.

I wondered how long it lasts, like how headlights yellow out quickly after a polish. I bought the Mother's over Maguires because it was a dollar cheaper, lol.

My rear flares both have some scrapes in them and I was debating using a bed liner type rubber compound to smooth them out. Need to do this to my bed rails anyway because they are sun degraded and the fiberglass gets in your skin if you lean on the bed and prop your arms on it.

The Griots blackening lasted over 2 years for me.
Just mix up some gel coat & recoat your bedrails. Surprisingly simple if stinky.

Ah, got confused because of this:
My takeaway was you were slowing down from 70 when it locked up, after a lot of 95mph driving.

They're not wrong about traffic shockwaves being "normal" on the interstates in ATL. I haven't witnessed this specific phenomenon at stop lights. I do more surface driving than interstate, so I think I would've seen it by now. But yeah, it's far worse in central FL if you ask me. And also true, drivers DO NOT trust each other in Atlanta, and there's a damn good reason why. I find drivers outside of the Atlanta perimeter and in the 'burbs around Atlanta drive twice as bad as anyone in the city. The vast majority of shit drivers in the city are usually sporting license plates from counties outside of Atlanta. Clayton county drivers are the worst. Cobb, Gwinnett, Henry, Spaulding and Cherokee aren't far behind.

You're supposed to clearcoat them after, either using clearcoat wipes (3M makes a good one) or spray on clearcoat. If you don't, they'll yellow really fast, especially if exposed to sunlight regularly. If you had this experience after properly clearcoating with an UV-protectant clear, then I'd carefully evaluate your prep/application process(es).

That's neat. Never seen a tarantula in the wild. I was surprised to learn several years ago that we have scorpions in Tennessee. I had no clue. My wife spotted one while we were camping in Middle TN.

You dont want a shop at home. You want a space elsewhere, otherwise it becomes another attic. I mean relatives have come out of the woodwork to store their heirlooms. I jest, but damned if 12x40 isnt shit that aint mine.

and now i have MY stuff spread out in a way that i can find what im looking for within 5min, but if i start packing stuff into containers, it'll take me a half hour at best.
Whereas dragging stuff over a mile would have limited my inventory, the random bolt can wouldnt be a 3/4 full litterbox.

I’ve got 5 grain silos sealed up for storage. A lift at home would be priceless. As well as everything under one roof.

Wood (bark?) scorpions are everywhere around us, in almost every state I've lived in, but they tend to be nocturnal so you won't see them. We had a house built on 5 acres that was former orange grove in central FL when I was younger, I got bit a couple of times in the first year, they'd crawl into my clothes, I'd put my clothes on and BAP! Like a little lightning bolt. Somewhere between a hornet and a wasp.

Honestly, an old friend/boss of mine got his garage into Phil Berg's first edition of Ultimate Garages, and I'm not sure I'd want anything more than what he had. 1.5 stories with a loft space for storage, two-post rotary lift, TV, fridge and other accessories, plenty of room for tools, and you could fit 3-4 projects in it at a time.

I see the book is still around, but I can't seem to find an open digital copy of it I can pilfer pics from. I'd had my car on the lift at least once or twice for oil changes. Really well laid-out. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a 50x100 like @empty_lord is suggesting, but that's also a hell of a lot of space to keep up with. I think 35x35 would suit me plenty, as long as it was metal, with a gable roof (gambrel roof would be cool too), and had either an offset or 4-post lift in the center, storage and tools on the back wall, and room for 2-3 projects down either side.

One thing I’ve noticed in TX I don’t notice here much are the people cruising the speed limit in the passing lane or any lane for that matter.

Used to be, back in the day, native Texans would move off to the shoulder on country roads in TX to let you pass if they were going slower on a 2-lane road. I haven't seen anyone do that in years of going back and visiting, but I always thought it was cool when I was a kid, pre-driving age.

I used to see people drive off the shoulder to get onto that two lane parallel tractor road and avoid traffic there. Wish they had that here. It would be useful especially on the NY interstate where if you miss an exit and the next one is 10-15 miles away.

I might not have been clear. It's legally allowed for you to drive on improved shoulders in TX so other drivers can pass you, or at least it used to be.

So, scenario, you're driving down a 2-lane road with shoulders out in the middle of nowhere. It's a no-passing zone, so you can't go around the guy going 60 in front of you, when you're doing 65. It used to be courtesy that the slower driver in front of you would move to driving in the improved shoulder so you could drive past them legally. And it was fully legal for them to do it.

I've never lived in a state where you can get from a highway/interstate to a service road like you're talking about. Down here in the south, there's almost always a fence of some sort blocking entry/exit to the service road except at proper exits.

Okay, that I never knew. Interesting.

Here when people drive on the shoulder it’s for them to illegally pass you OR during the time they allow traffic in the breakdown lane to improve the flow during rush hour.

I definitely want more space for all that, I just don't want the added maintenance that comes with the space, or the long line of unfinished projects.

Granted, if I had as much as you need, I'd probably rent some of the extra space and access to tools out to close friends of mine for their projects.

What's killing me at this point in my life is all the extra time-suck responsibilities - kids, the house, the yard, and life in general. I'm lucky to eek out 4-6 hours a week on anything.

I’d love to have controlled indoor space big enough to aim lights. I don’t expect I’ll ever live somewhere that I could afford such a space.
