I've had it installed for almost 3 weeks now and so far so good. I don't have any complaints.

I agree about the sense of accompishment and making it our own. I believe there is no need to drill holes in the bed as I thought they are already there? The video doesn't say anything about that.

I am trying to install the OEM bedcover but wallowed out two bolts trying to remove the cleat rails. Tried a couple of things and can't remove them (one each side). Any good suggestions?

Sounds like you need a screw extractor like this one.

You can get them at Harbor Freight or Amazon.

Bought and tried. Didn't work. I'll do some more research to find some other options. Thanks

I have the Retrax PowerTraxOne MX electric on my Pro, no complaints whatsoever…this is the 4th Tundra I had an electric Retrax cover on and loved everyone of them…highly recommend them, install is pretty straight forward…biggest thing is getting it lined up and level, I have no water intrusion at all other than an extremely minor amount at side of tailgate seals…and it literally has to pour for me to even get a slight leak in that area…I’m going to seal tailgate with a kit, and it should make it 100% waterproof…hope that helps!

There was actually a fairly comical thread on this topic a while back. I did the same thing and used an angle grinder to cut a slot across the center. I then used a very large flat head and just turned them out like screws. I too did it on two. It worked well enough I actually re-used them when re-installing.

Okay for us who are going to be doing this install; what happened and how do we avoid messing up the bolt heads? Were you using the proper Torx bit to remove the bolts?

Well, in my case, it seems two were torqued much tighter than the rest from the factory. I know, it seems hard to believe there would be some sort of inconsistency with this new truck, but there was (insert sarcastic voice). I was using the proper bit, etc. The others came right out, no issue.
Also, the metal on the bolts is pretty soft as well; I used an impact driver, as soon as it slipped, that was a wrap - all over. They did come out easy once I cut the slot in them though.

I had the same issue with one of my bolts, and having gone in knowing the previous issues people have had. I used hand tools and a light touch but still had an issue. Head striped out, ground a slot for a flat blade, stripped that too.

I eventually decided to drill the head out. Since I had boogered up the head the drill hole got off center a little and I was deep enough that I was past the back side of the rail. Voila could turn screw out by hand.

My theory is that it’s not the screw that is over torqued, but the rail is binding on the threads. The screw that was an issue for me was the pass rear, maybe at the factory as they put the other screws in (holes are slightly off) that the rail moves slightly and binds up on a bolt.

I took one of the screws out that holds my outlet in so I could finish the install of my cover, ordered new screw from
    Toyota.

I'm ordering a Truxedo Duece for my Platinum coming to me (hopefully) real soon. Anyone know how to answer this question?

Do all the Platinums have this? I don't remember seeing it as a selectable option from Toyota.

I believe drilling the drain holes is no longer required? I received a reply from a comment I posted on one YouTube video stating the drain tubes they ship with now are small enough to fit the predrilled holes.

The older install videos showed thicker drain tubes and noted that holes would need to be drilled. They updated that and ship with tubes slim enough to fit the predrilled holes.

Thanks for the information. A no drill install works for me, even if it was a minor operation.

I like your theory and it makes me wonder which order for removal I'll follow when it comes time to install mine. What was the part number for the screws you ordered? ... Just in case.

I just stopped at the dealer here as they had a 2022 Capstone on the lot. The beds definitely have drain holes. The video I watched also showed the smaller diameter drain tubes for the MX4 so all should be good.

Thanks for taking a look. What color was the Capstone? Was it for sale?

The beds have had drain holes from the start. The issue is if there is a spray in liner it was covering them completely or almost so. The Retrax came with huge drain lines! I couldn't squeeze them through a ½ inch hole, had to widen it a bit.

On the bolt topic, it could be a coincidence, but both my stripped bolts were passenger side as well.

The Capstone is for sale. It is Magnetic Gray Metallic, Hybrid. It's a beauty and just came in at Hendrick Toyota in Concord, NC . They bought it on auction. Asking $88K I think. I have a deposit in and am waiting for an MGM 1794 to come in.

Wow $88k! I'll wait for my 1794. A few weeks ago a dealer north of me had this Platinum for sale. If you look closely you will see the nearly $18,800 markup.

I am told Rick Hendrick will not allow a dealer mark up at any of his stores.

I got my 1794 at Hendrick in Concord. I will first say that dealing with them was an absolute homerun. They may not "mark up", however I did pay an extra $499 for Nitrogen & Pinstriping. Then there was a $699 dealer admin charge, and a $995 acquisition fee. All said and done it was much less than the $8000 Riverhead Toyota (NY) wanted to charge me over MSRP.

When did you get yours and how long did you have to wait? I have a deposit in and hope one will come in soon. They definitely have profit adders like all dealers. Scott Clark Toyota in Statesville has a $10,000 add on right now. Crazy.

I began reaching out to them in the beginning of August. I was set on a Green/ Saddle 1794 w/ ORP. They had a Green 1794 in an upcoming alotment 55 days out and it was still up for grabs. But it didn't have the ORP. After thinking about it, I decided that I would take it and put down a deposit. I picked it up on Thursday the 29th.

That'll be my next step on Monday.

The two that messed up were also over torqued.

I doubt they are over torqued. Look at my response above, I think the actual rail is binding on them.

Nice. I am looking for a MGM or black saddle or black interior. 4x4. Prefer power running boards. Had the deposit in for a couple weeks now. Hoping the October allocation has something. Should know in a couple days.

Did you decide to go 65" or 71"? Curious how 65" looks.
