So I just put a 2” level on the truck with 1.25” spidertrax wheel spacers( I love the stock wheels). I’m running stock size 265/65/17 copper at3. To be honest I think it looks great. Now my worry is I have a set of 285/70/17 maxis razr at’s sitting in the garage and just by looking at the truck now it seems like they will be to stuffed. Does anyone wish they went with a 265/7017? For looks or performance wise?

I have 285/70/17 ko2s on a 06 double cab. I rub on the frame with a full lock to the left only. I added the spider spacers for a -38 offset and took them off after 5 min because the tires rubbed too much. Please note that was after a lot of cutting. My original offset was 0 on my methods, I also have camburg upper arms to help with alignment.

After seeing a few trucks at off-road meets. The 06 double cab has different clearance than AC/other years around the body mount locations

So it sounds like I’ll be doing some trimming. I expected that though. I had to do it on my last 4 trucks so I’m not a stranger to it. I guess I’ll just wait and see. I’ll get them mounted next week. I just hope it’s not stupid amounts of cutting or I’ll drop down to a 265/70. I know I’ll definitely have to take off the mud flaps cause it’s about an inch away now with the wheel spacers on

That sounds like alot of work to me. It might be better if I just take those Maxxis tires off your hands.........

Haha I was very impressed by how aggressive they are in person. I looked for as many reviews as I could but they never looked very aggressive but always got good reviews. I’m hoping they perform well in winter. My coopers are old, hard and starting to dry rot. They are horrible in the rain

Got any pics of the bottom setup in the daylight? Kinda hard to see how much meat is showing.

I'm wondering if 275/75/16 wouldn't be a perfect median for no-rub-no-hammer with a decent amount of meat.

Your overall tire diameter is basically where @bmf4069 is with his truck right now (32.8") except he's running 255/85 R16 tires, though his sidewall looks not quite as tall:

added one @shifty` same specs and tires as the bottom, just a shot when I swapped to methods. Pre suspension over haul and tire upsize. Trucks been through a few iterations.

@ryderboy I can post you some shots of that tire size he’s mentioning on a first gen sequoia. My wife runs that size on hers with aftermarket wheels

Thanks. And sorry OP, not trying to hijack your thread. The overall size of his tires are actually in the ballpark of what you're looking to install IIRC, although I'd really need to crunch the numbers to figure out how that 20mm difference in height with same aspect ratio would actually pan out for width and all.

If I were to swap up and go with aftermarket wheels, the end result I'd prefer to go for would be something like what I photoshopped onto @FirstGenVols' truck a while back. I'll have a hell of a time trying to figure out what tire size would get me here on 16s though.

Well I’m putting them on Monday so I’ll post pics. I guess I don’t care to much about trimming.
I forgot to mention I did put on the front sumo springs about 2 months ago and they are amazing. It didn’t change the ride to much but it does get rid of a lot of body roll. Just in case anyone was wondering if they should get them or not I think they are definitely worth it.

While we're on the subject of 285/70/17s... What load range do ya'll run on these trucks? I've got an '06 DoubleCab. Would ya'll recommend 6-ply C load range? --or 10-ply E Load range?

I'll be doing plenty of highway, but for sure plenty of offroad. Prob like 80/20. But no heavy hauling or trailer, just people and camping and fishing gear.

I'm leaning towards C load 6-ply for cost savings, but if the E's are more highly recommended for the DC, I'd go Es. I ran E rated 255/85/16s on my 1G Tacoma DCs in Cooper and BFG and the BFG was tolerable, but the Coopers were harsh beasts for the lighter Tacoma.

I have always ran e rated tires. I haven’t always needed them but I figured a more robust tire is always better on a truck. I never really noticed any negative side effects of them. That is until this truck. Idk if it’s the weight of them or the size but I did notice a sizable reduction in power. My other trucks have had plenty of power to turn whatever tire I put on besides my Tacoma which was the worst truck ever. I only had it for 6 months. My stock size coopers were e rated and it was fine on the tundra. So maybe a 265/70/17 would be better

I run SL on mine strictly for power and gas mileage. My truck is really just used to get me to any moto or mountain bike trails though. From what I have seen C and E basically weigh the same and kill the already bad gas mileage and rob that 4.7 power.

Whats the goal? Go anywhere, do anything? Look cool in parking lots? Mud? Sand? Rocks?

Sure, id like a truck that can get to the same place my 2wd atv can get, but as a daily, i'd prefer 18mpg (4x4) over road noise. I've got a buddy that likes to wheel his shit, and would love to hang, but most of his advantage is sliders. If i got rid of my bitchelins, and had a manly 31, it wouldnt have too much of a disadvantage against the 33's. And 35's need a more dedicated build than i'd go for, since a dirtbike can usually go where 40's cant.

Fwiw, I bought a set of FJ Cruiser wheels with 285 70R 17 Wrangler DuraTracs. Great tires but they are too big for the stock wheel configuration and I need space in the wheel wells to mount tire chains when necessary. So, I took off the DuraTracs and mounted Nokian 265 70 17 studded snow tires and have the Wranglers up for sale. https://boulder.craigslist.org/wto/d/ward-goodyear-wrangler-duratrac-lt285/7538039617.html

Threw on some 285-70-17s with Sequoia wheels that I found on FB market for pretty cheap. Didn't want to spend $1500 on new tires just to figure if I'll regret it or not. Heh.

No regrets so far. (well, other than I had already bought the same damn wheels separately from a wrecking yard a couple months ago so now i have two sets....)

Gotta massage the inner fender a bit still. Hopefully these run ok and last a decent while.

Best OEM wheel choice for these trucks. Better than a lot of the aftermarket.

I still need a full size spare.

Agreed. I love these wheels on these trucks and any Toyota of this era/vintage. They look awesome, IMO. I just missed out on a set of Hyper Silver ones last week. I like those even more.

My other set were junked up chrome so I had them sandblasted and I painted them black. I'll prob put them on eventually, but for now I'm digging it.

There's another set near me the guy is asking $75 for four. I prob should just scoop them up for the good of the people. Heh

I've got the hypersilver, that's what I need a spare of. I've only seen two sets around me for sale, most recent one was $500 with "fair" condition tires. If it would've been $300, I'd have bought, I can keep one and sell the other three for $100/ea, no doubt. I need to go back and see if they ever sold, maybe kick 'em an offer.

But yeah, I've called up 3 different junk/salvage places who supposedly have these in stock, and all three times, they've been the darker Sequoia ones. Big part of the reason I finally said "screw it" and went into passive hunting mode.

I really wish I'd had asked my dad to pick up the full set I saw listed in Dothan AL several months back for $150. I just didn't want him to make an hour round trip to buy stuff off a Craigslist stranger.

Hyper Silver is not the darker Sequoia ones? I thought that was one-and-the-same... Though I did wonder why they were called Silver when they were more gray...

The ones I just picked up on my truck came from a Sequoia. Dude I bought them from was calling them "sparkle silver"... they don't seem that sparkly to me...

So what is this one? This is the set for sale near me for $75....

That looks like the one on my truck, which I'm pretty sure is hyper silver.

Yes, that's the OEM wheel that came on my '03 Tundra. Some that I see on the older Sequoias are more of a lustrous silver gray. They're a handsome wheel too. Anyone know what the color was called?

I believe the Sequoia was called hyper grey (not 'gray') or dark hyper silver, and the Tundra's just hyper silver.
