Uneven Truck Bed

A couple months ago I had a Toytec Boss lift kit installed - at that time we replaced some other shackles with these Toytec adjustable shackles and replaced the Bilstein 5100s with the Boss shocks with reservoirs.


Recently my truck has developed a lean where the driver's side is lower than the passenger side. Anyone have any idea why? If I stand on the back bumper and rock the truck the left is a lot more bouncy than the right too. There is no load whatsoever in the bed of the truck.

Possibly a bad shock? Is it a difference in the pressure in the shocks? I have no time to look for a leak or anything right njow but will later. In the mean time does anyone have any ideas?

 

Drivers side has the gas tank, driver, and battery. My Taco had the lean as well as my tundra. I'm stock in the rear and it leans a little.

 

This is so common that Coachbuilder has developed shims to correct the problem.

 

My Tacoma had the "Taco Lean" as well. There are threads on tacoma world about this same problem. In order to fix it on the Tacomas you would have to replace the cab bushings and add a spacer. Not sure if it's the same problem or not.

 

The left side reservoir has no air pressure and will not charge. The right is at approximately 62 PSI.

 

Or just roll with it.

 

I think you have found the problem. Now time to diagnose it.

@ToyTec Lifts - you guys have any good advice? I think these are supposed to be charged to 150-200PSI if I remember correctly. Had them installed at the shop you recommended..

Should these shocks be charged to adjust stiffness with air? Will it cause further damage driving one of them completely depleted?

 

With a digital gauge - it's just a schrader valve. Are they N2 charged? I may be able to go to a dealer and have them refilled. My compressor only goes to 150PSI.

 

Yeah, I'm actually calling a couple local places now. Stamp says 150-200lbs.

No N2 in my small town. Got it filled with air to 150psi for my trip into Salt Lake. Thanks for everyone's help here.

 

I just called the shop that installed this kit and they don't even have nitrogen there. These shocks were charged with air from the start. This is the shop Toytec recommended.

 

I'm having an impossible time finding a shop that has nitrogen that goes up to a least 150 PSI. 4 Wheel Parts has it but they won't fill the shocks unless they're off the truck.

 

Can't drive there, pull shocks off, fill, and place back on truck?

 

I guess I could but that seems pretty bullshit to have to do just to charge them.

I don't have a ton of time this weekend, already late for plans because of this.

 

@Backslider any good news? Be nice to know what was the culprit. Do these toytecs come shipped empty and has to be filled prior to installation? That would be something good to know for everyone.
