Max bed weight questions

Hey all,
Ive got a 2000 tundra V8 4.7L TRD with a 2 seater cab. Bought her this summer with 141,000 miles on it. Lot of cool mods like a bypass oil system, new headers, beefed up brakes, and a flatbed conversion.

I travel most of the year and am looking for a new camper. Found a truck camper that comes in around 1400lbs. My question is whether the truck can take that in the bed, or if im gonna be risking it.

With the FB conversion that back of the frame seems to have been beefed up a bit. If I am risking it, are there any suspension mods that ya'll would reccomend? Thanks

 

We do need pics before we invest too heavily in giving you truck advice.

If you’ll carry that much weight all the time, I recommend you invest in heavy duty leaf springs. Deaver and Alcan make them for our trucks. Not just new leaf springs, new HD leaf springs.

Alcan leaf springs are what I have on Crackie now. I'm not sure if you could consider them "HD" or not as they are only 500lbs over what was stock...

1400's would be right around the max carrying weight.

No machine likes to be run all the time at max capacity.

I can't say what the risk is, other than it will just be always pushing the upper limit of the brakes, engine, suspension etc so expect the usually failures, but more often.

 

Gen sets do... well, 95-98% of capacity. It's where they are most efficient. Just sayin...

 

Fair enough...boats too for that matter.

OP, excellent points in here: our brakes kinda suck. You’d have to be crazy cautious all the time with following distances, stopping distances. It’d probably feel like work. So if you love driving that truck, you probably wouldn’t with that camper on top.

 

Thanks for the replies ya'll. I have a feeling the guy who did the flat bed on it threw on HD springs. Theres 6 leaves including the overload leaf.

I put it on and theres plently of space on either overload leaf end. Little top heavy, but shes driving good.
