So in another thread I complained about the weak JBL stereo in these trucks and most of the feedback was to get a whole new system including the head unit. That seemed like a lot to do and pay for so I asked the local shop what they recommend for less than an entire system. They said most people upgrade all the speakers, with Alpines, and then add a boosted amp under the seat all the while leaving the head unit stock. This sounded reasonable until I got his estimate. Can someone who knows more about this than me please look at this proposal and tell me of it's inline and/or even advisable. Thanks all

You can diy and source all parts for a lot cheaper. Go to crutchfield and compare. Hit up Amazon or ebay. Speakers adapter are cheap. Some can be had for like $10. So, shop around.

Unfortunately, getting a Tundra to sound good without changing out the head unit is damn near impossible. I wouldn't do anything if I were you, I have a feeling you are spend $2k which is a lot of damn money these days and still not be happy. The problem with leaving the stock JBL head unit is that it sends a very processed signal and getting a good clean signal for the new aftermarket speakers is almost impossible, this is why a large majority of us that upgrade just bite the bullet and buy a new head unit as well.

I'm halfway there with a new headunit, and speakers all around. No sub or amp yet but still a huge difference in sound quality. One thing people forget when discussing this subject is that our trucks are approaching 15 years old. Speakers wear out with time, even just replacing with new oem will be an improvement.

This is why you were encouraged to replace everything. $1800 for a band aid or about $700 more to start fresh and clean.

And $200 for an amp kit is robbery.

$200 and probably using CCA cable..:eek2:

@Goosedog the lower-priced amp kits are CCA cable.
The higher priced are OFC cable.

OFC vs. CCA Wire: The Rundown - Sonic Electronix Learning Center and Blog

You may not even notice the difference, but why not buy the better product?

Not saying you need to buy Knukoncepts, but this shows you the price differences.
    Amp Installation Kits (knukonceptz.com)

As others stated, look into doing it yourself and replacing the Entune HU.
You're never going to get what you want out of the Entune HU.

A good HU (I'd go Kenwood or Pioneer) and the iData MAestro steering wheel control will give you much better results than putting lipstick on the Entune pig.

You'll also be REPLACING the stock OEM under seat amp.
Get a decent 5 channel, you're going to end up replacing your OEM JBL sub too.

I love my Focal speakers, they are several that fit many budgets.

Get on Crutchfield, read reviews, and talk to their customer service.
They won't pressure you to buy.

You'll find A LOT of helpful people on this forum..
    Good luck...

Morning sir. I’m sorry but some of this advice is horrible. Nothing wrong with the entune jbl system hu IF you know how to deal with it. Apparently you live very close to me. I’m in Arden. I did a complete overhaul in my 2019 limited. 3 amplifiers, 2 12s, dsp and stereo integrity components.
People fussing about the amp kit but do not even know what it is and saying it’s to expensive. Many good amp kits cost that much even if you part it out now. Also not knowing what specific speakers are being quoted is another issue. Alpine has many different options.
And frankly, $600 to install it isn’t bad. I was quoted $1500 (in the same city) for mine but I just wound up doing it as I sound deadened the whole truck as well. Location makes a big difference as well.
DM me and we can meet up and I’ll let you listen to mine and show you what I did.

OEM Audio Plus Reference 500 system is amazing if you want to keep the stock head unit. I went with dual subs which pushed the price to $2348. Local shop installed it for $300.

Tech12volts has a great option for your truck with an 8 channel amp and different speaker options that work well with the jbl system and it’s easy to install.

several options that do not include changing the hu. I wanted to keep mine to keep everything looking stock.

    Alot of them
As mentioned, compare the prices against Crutchfield. You can get the amp kit cheaper than $200, and that labor charge is rediculous. There are plenty of us here that gave done our own installs that can help answer your questions.
