Whether it be a car, item, dude, chick, etc.... What is your "one that got away" that you would like to vent or share?

    I will start.

This may seem silly but over a decade ago while I could only long for a Tundra as a poor College kid, I had a black supercharged 2003 Nissan Xterra with Nismo everything. It had around 90k miles and I had just replaced the timing belt and water pump before I traded it for a gas saver (Scion TC). I got rid of it because I had a 2+ hour daily commute at the time and gas prices were getting insane (kinda like now).

Little did I know gas prices would go down significantly a year or so later. I loved that Xterra but in hindsight it may not have made it to today anyways.

I listened to my wife in 2011 when I had a chance to buy 5 Bitcoin for about $1500, and said "Naah, it'll never go anywhere."

Before i bought the ulysses, there was a 70's honda cb350-4 all kitted up for land speed racing for sale, the ulysses is so much more comfortable, but every time i ride it, i wish it was that aero bike. 16krpm beats 6krpm regardless of power output.

    Hmm..been a few

No regrets - just look back and learn to never pass on things I believe are really worth it/worth buying and holding.

Friend was not doing well and downsizing - had 40 acres and a home in need of help - but it was a really unique house - quality build high end home built in early 60s - offered to me for 40k in 1995 - I said no. Eventually bought by a accountant in town - wound up sub dividing 12 1 acre lots at 18-35k each within 6 years - house he rehabbed and is currently listed at 650k - and that’s not accounting for the minerals that he leased at 9k an acre and eventually sold for 15k more and acre.

The ‘72 Chevelle SS I won on a bet - guy owed me 8500 - told him he needed to pay up or my boss was coming for his ass (my boss told me to write it off - just tell him no more credit - post up only) - he completely bought my bluff but didn’t have cash so said give me a chance - 3500 bet on a dog if it hits we are even - if it loses he’d sign over the car - told the boss he said book it and if it won car was mine as a bonus. I won - drove the car home and mom said no way in hell her 19 year old was driving a sports car like that - I’d kill myself. Wound up selling for 12k - car is probably easily worth 5x that 29 years later.

My 1984 Dodge D100 - old man’s hand me down - damn I loved that truck - absolutely bullet proof. Saw one similar recently and almost dropped 10k on it just out of nostalgia- but I got enough crap.

For a while - I kinda regretted not just saying F it all and heading down to Costa Rica in the early 2000s - but I’m happy with my choice to stay now. Sometimes the seemingly glamorous lives of others turn out to be a mirage and those plain old boring lives we live are much better than we ever bought they’d turn out.

Yea - but what about the “original” BTC user who traded 10k for 2 pizzas ?!!

I mean really EVERYONE had a chance to jump on the crypto train pre pandemic - we all knew it was an “up and coming” investment - just as we all knew when it hit 50k the first time there was no way this doesn’t hit a speed bump at some point.

Stocks/investments are different to me - it’s not a “once in a lifetime” chance - there is always a market and always a seller at a price. Some things just never come along again - ever.

It’s why you gotta be decisive when it matters - and have a savings account or sufficient line of credit to cover your ass when this stuff becomes available. I guess I was always lucky as a “kid” in my early 20s - typically broke but I knew where to get cash quick if I needed it and had people that knew I was good for it to pay back and if I needed cash - it must be something I could make a profit on and would back me. My old man was one of my biggest supporters at this at times. One of the many reasons I miss him and my mom. They weren’t “spendy” nor “risk takers” - but they began to see what I would do and covered me more than once when a big opportunity presented itself - and I made sure they were rewarded for their trust in me with an equal share of profits always.

Like I said - they were never big spenders - but when we’d hit a big lick - we would all typically celebrate with a few days out in Vegas. Can’t tell you how many times I’d do something - my mom would call me screaming when she found out what I’d done - not speak to me for 3 days and eventually calm down after a long weekend of my old man reminding him “let him learn - but he hasn’t lost money yet” - 3 or 4 months later we’d all be heading out for 4 days of fun and she’d slip me an envelope saying “don’t waste your money - save it and play on this”.

Of course stupid me I never took that advice and usually played theirs AND mine - with predictable results. A fee times though it worked out well.

    This is true.

On the OTHER hand....in late 2019 I bought some stock from a little known company named Moderna and forgot about it for a year or so.

    :D

Granted, I wasn't a millionaire (more like a hundredaire lol), but I made some decent $ off of it. :)
