After waiting for ever on the Capstone I had ordered , 1 Week ago I went ahead and purchased the 1794 TRd that my dealer had , it was something so I purchased it .
Now not even 2 weeks later the dealer calls me and says he has 2 capstones coming in both as I would have ordered plus more options.
I told him that I would still be interested If I could trade this one in on the capstone , he said sure
    trade my 2022 1794 TRd with 480 miles and 8 days plus $16,000 ???
I decided I like my current truck and the capstone was not worth the difference.

Good choice, definitely not worth the difference. I would much rather have a platinum or 1794 with $16,000 in my pocket rather than my current capstone.

i think most forum members on here will tell you the capstone is just a glorified 1794 and not worth the upcharge.

majority of those people that buy a capstone just want to flex e-peen or just say they have the top model of tundra. but thats just my opinion.

I'd say this is accurate. I only bought it because dealer got one on the lot with no reservations, and there's literally no ETA for a Platinum or 1794 to be delivered unfortunately. Tale of the times.

Only consideration for me would be if the 1794 were a hybrid, but the hybrid upgrade definitely is NOT worth $16k in any case. Sounds like a good choice hanging on to the 1794

my 1794 is a hybrid short bed , what i hate most is it doesn't have the power bedstep , running boards are fine , but getting into bed with tailgate down is a bitch on knees

I bought the 1794 hybrid with advanced pckg. It's basically the capstone without 22's. No huge price increase and I also have the saddle tan interior. You do get a lot of chrome which does cost some money to make go away...lol! But I don't mind a little.

My truck came with the manual bed step. It's also an aftermarket add-on. Not as flashy as the power step, but gets the job done just the same and I'm really glad it's there. I can deploy it with my foot. Plus most times I open my tailgate I'm not actually stepping up in there, so the power step would be deploying way more often than what I actually need it to.

$16 on top for the Capstone seems like a lot. Then the dealer will turn around and sell your truck even more profit.

Capstone Would be a downgrade for me, at least the Canadian version. Don’t want the big rims or power boards or air suspension. I think you made the right choice!

Flex all you want lol, it’s a pickup not a Porsche. Nobody outside of tundra owners will notice the difference.

Speaking as someone that had the 1794 and now has the capstone. There is a bit more than 22's and chrome. Some additional comments

    1. If you are going to delete the chrome then don't by the capstone at all weather trading for it or not
    2. The noise dampening glass is not a gimmick the cabin is super quiet.
    3. The two tone seats are really nice but not significant. The saddle tan in the 1794 is just as nice.
    4. I did not pay a dime over MSRP and I didn't pay any addendum for either truck. I paid 67k for the 1794 TRD and I paid 80k for the capstone. The 1794 was not a hybrid which I believe is a 3400 upgrade. So it's not a 16k upgrade. Your dealer was screwing you a little bit
Now I made 4k on my 1794. So for me it was a 6k added cost but I was lucky

if I could do it all over again I would still probably make the deal. I will say I would not make it for 16k. No way. Would I do it for 6k. Yes. Would I do it for 10k. Knowing what I know now - no.

At a point - just about any current vehicle offered sees a very limited “upgrade” to the highest trim level at a substantial price increase.

Again - I’m sure there are people that “need” a certain feature on a Capstone - and they will pay the 85k price tag. Personally - I’m happy with my gen 2.5 - so even a basic gen 3 would be more “feature laden” and a 1794 would be more than enough for me.

Dealers and manufacturers make their money convincing you those extra features are worth it. They literally hold seminars regularly training sales people on the upsell and how to talk you into it and make you feel you need it psychologically.

Never really made sense to me - one of the most common “upgrades” on highest trims is the rims. I never understood paying 5-10k extra for nicer rims on any vehicle. So many aftermarket options at a fraction of the price and many that look near identical to that OE option if that’s what you want. Easy change to make and can be done much cheaper (or course you can’t generally include it in your car payment unless done by the dealer at point of sale - so that’s the appeal to some buyers).

you mention the noise dampening glass are you saying that the capstone is quieter than a platinum/1794 I thought I read the same windshield was in all 3 of the upper trims an windshields the same size in all the tundra models

I think my 1794 has front window noise dampening glass. It is extremely more quiet from my previous Sr5. I believe the Capstone has front window and driver/passenger noise dampening glass. So I would imagine it sounds even more quiet than the 1794.

agreed, as a matter of fact when I see one I think, lol, that guy paid a ton more for clown size wheels and a panda interior.

toyota didnt deliver on the highest trim, there is just nothing there over the platinum/1794.

Would the capstone have the same rear locker as the 1794 TRDOR does? I'd think that's a pretty big consideration if not.

Toyota won't let me build one online to check because there's no local stock, so that's frustrating.

Your 1794 doesn’t have the power step options because it has the TRD OR package. Which I would gladly have the TRD OR package. I just added the bed step to my pro and it was $200 and took 30-45 mins to install.

If I could find a WCP 1794 TRD hybrid I would trade my pro in.

No, it does not. Just the active brake limited slip. Capstone was built for the parking lots of Nordstrom, not trail running.

This is totally incorrect. There is no way I'd bring a truck that expensive into a Nordstrom parking lot; wouldn't last one trip without a dented in door panel

if i remember correctly all tundra's have the front noise dampen glass. the capstone adds front driver/passenger noise dampen glass.
