He said in the video dealers buy the cheapest shit they can get their hands on and it’s rarely Toyota branded oil.

If this guy can get Fords and Jeeps to these mileage numbers he may be on to something.

    Marvel of engineering eh?

    Grumble grumble

I got to do a cooling system refresh last year (oil cooler was like 3 or 4 years back). It took me like 8 months to collect the parts thru like 5 vendors for the job.

Yeah Chrysler engineering: let’s save a few bucks and put a majority plastic oil cooler under the top and bottom intake manifolds.

I did that. Started rumble stripping around 30-35mph, then every time before downshift. After change, drives great.

Always felt 10k was way too long, maybe because I grew up always hearing about changing your oil every 3k miles. All my changes are 5k for all my vehicles now.

I'll be doing an oil change on the Sequoia this weekend. I bought an Amsoil filter too but 15k miles seems crazy. Is it normal to not change an Amsoil filter for that long?

I use what you have pictured, one year/10k miles. If I'm going to change the oil, I'm going to change the filter as a matter of course.

I would do the inverse. The oil is touted as being "good" for a greater number of miles than the filter. You just need to do what makes you comfortable. I'm comfortable doing both at one year/10K miles.

I guess that the way that I tend to think of it is that I'd be more comfortable making sure that my filter is in the best reasonable condition filtering any detritus that may be in the oil versus simply pushing clean oil through a used filter. I was trying to conjure up a goofy analogy, but the best I can do is to think of putting used socks (filter) on your freshly showered feet (engine) and changing to new shoes (oil). Not the best, but it's been a busy week, lol. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That’s the trouble with using our feelings to make decisions. There’s no factual basis for it. Changing your oil at an unusual frequency is just wasting oil and not benefiting the engine in a real way. Doesn’t hurt it, but wastes oil.

For the past decade+ (3 different tundras) I have changed my oil during my yearly state mandated inspection.

On average it’s about 7500-8000 miles. There have been years when we road tripped far. Prior to road trip I would change the oil, and then changed again on yearly inspection.

Zero issues. I have always kept it under the 10k mark for sure.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance gets a bit stinky after 25k miles, just sayin'.

When I first moved to this country I thought someone was pulling my leg when they said do oil changes at 3k intervals. You wot mate? You lot must think we Brits are tighter than a duck's ass when we are doing 6k intervals with old skool oil, you don't want to know what we do with a bit of synthetic lube...
Ergo, my non-smoking engine that spends far too much time offroad on dusty building sites and up to it's axles in farm mud is obviously due for failure sooner rather than later as it gets done around 20k, or five months for those who think in a timely manner.

My old motorbike used to get 3k intervals though, I'd change the synthetic oil every time I put a new rear tire on it. Something that redlines at 11,500 and potters along at 150, the thought of a piston going up through a tank of fuel and my neck was a trifle more sobering than popping a rod through the block in a truck ...
