I have been following all the threads on all the different MPG numbers for quite some time. In my case the best I was doing on a regular highway/street regimen was about 13-14 mpg. Today when doing my fill up and checking my mileage the old school way I found I got just over 17 MPG. WOW! Truck has about 13K and my driving habits have not changed. Good for me as I will most likely be back at 13-14 mpg real soon!

A good place to look is Fuelly. You can see actual numbers from real people.

My 2020 DC 2wd on stock tires I have gotten 17-18+ on the highway. I usually average 13-14 with my daily commute to work city and very little highway. Driving just city is incredibly horrible. I’ve had Tundras since 2012 so nothing new to me. I don’t drive much. I only fill up once every 2 weeks. So don’t mind getting crappy mileage. The truck makes me happy when I’m driving it and that’s all the matters

My '21 CM definitely gets worse mileage than my '18 DC did. '18 had more pep too. I don't think it's all attributable to the different cab either.

Best I've ever gotten in my '21 is 17.08 mpg. Best I ever had with my '18 was 20.12 mpg.

In my 2020 SR5 Crewmax I got around 13L/100KM (18MPG) on a 400km round trip yesterday with my wife, half of it I was hauling 900Lbs of tile in the bed of the truck. I was shocked at how little the fuel economy changed with all that weight.

I wasn't going particularly easy on it either, I put it into tow/haul mode to pass some traffic going up hill, passing slow traffic, no problem.

My recent obsession is only because my vehicle is very new to me. Lots of talk about the poor fuel economy but it is much better than others have been saying. It helps to be a competent driver as well, not rushing to stop at stale lights and predicting traffic flow.

Best I saw was 24ish, but that was all downhill from the gas station.

You're not accounting for lifts; tires and all the weight most have added. Folks with "leave it as they made it" will do considerably better than those who subscribe to this site.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    yup.

I'm stock running gear & susp. I avg 17. mostly hwy. same route. I drive 60mph.

I can easily do mid 19's on the hwy.

yes...even though I am S/C'd. mileage did not change. it runs in bypass most of the time.

yes, mileage will SUCK if i hit the skinny pedal.

I will x2 this comment. I had an SR5 18 CM (used) and traded for an SR5 21 CM (new) same truck essentially, I believe there is a noticeable difference in peppiness and fuel mileage displayed. So I would agree that the DC vs CM did not make a difference.

and lets not forget the speed, doing 60 vs 75 has shown a big difference for me. I'm leveled with heavier wheels and 285/60R20 tires (nothing major) and combined city/highway driving (75mph) I get 12.5mpg, all highway at 75mph I get about 13.5-14mpg, but if I drive on two lane roads at 60mph I've seen a best of 16.5mpg. I just can't bring myself to drive 60mph when the speed limit is 70 lol

Yea using the argument of go slow to get good mpg never makes sense to me. Time has value too, and personally it's way more valuable than an extra $5 at the fill up.

I can do 14 combined when I don’t care and 16 when I do care. That’s corrected and across an entire tank. Not sure it’s worth caring.

OP your problem is the extra wind drag from your front hitch.

Maybe y'all are noticing the Safety Sense stuff and its impact on throttle response??? Maybe ignorance is bliss. My truck is plenty responsive and jumps off the line in T/H mode, especially with all the nannies off.

Fuelly has the 2021 Tundra with a bit better fuel economy than years 2015-2020. :notsure:

I seriously doubt Toyota would make an entire year's worth of trucks only to sandbag them in order to make the following model year look better. o_O

It really comes down to 1-5mpg difference over the years. Tuning, driving habits, flatlanders, mtn folks, stock, modified these are all things that contribute to mpg. These are large heavy trucks that have a low cargo weight capacity, they come tapped out. If they would not continue to offer smaller power trains and realize there is no replacement for displacement. My 66 F250 with a 410ci 4sp and 410 rear gets better mileage and will carry 2k lbs. in the bed. My Tundra won't do that.

Yup, the commuter car i picked up earlier this year gets 28mpg going 90. You can save gas and save time. :D

Nobody likes to consider the additional cost of premium/diesel fuel either. That's why i like the 5.7, 380hp and it runs on the cheap stuff.

Definitely not the safety sense stuff, my 2018 had that too.

My '21 with tow/haul engaged feels like my '18 with tow/haul disengaged.

That said I will say my '18 with TH engaged almost had too much get up and go. Even pulling a trailer, you had to be easy on the pedal to not chirp the tires a hair when pulling out from a stop.

I think it’s the way they tune the gas paddle, like 19 up is more progressive, earlier years is more Linear.
