I ordered some new aftermarket side steps or nerf bars and although the manufacturer called them "satin finish" they are actually high gloss. Any tips on dulling the finish? I thought about using a Scotchbrite pad but I'm afraid it will look like I used a Scotchbrite pad.

Test out wet-fine grit sandpaper (500) in an area that gets hidden away by mounting hardware or mounting surfaces and go from there. Highly recommended you use a sponge to apply even pressure with this method.

Can't say something like this will turn out good.

Scuffing will look bad. The only proper way to fix is to redo the powder coat.

Where are you located? I have a guy here in Utah who powder coats ultra quality at reasonable prices.

I'm in NC. Recoating these doesn't make sense, they only cost $150 new. I'll just learn to live with it.

Spray it with a matte clear finish. Will get rid of the gloss without diminishing the powder coat thickness..

Yeah. I get it. I’m super picky and budget out enough to get anything I order redone by my guy. I’ve been doing that for 10+ years and never had any paint flaking or rust spots coming through.
