2022 Tundra vs 2022 F-150 opinion?

My friend just purchased a used 2021 F150 Lariat for 73,000$ plus tax here in Ottawa. New F150 Lariat is now close to 100,000$ CAD.. Apparently F150 price went up many times this year.

I cannot believe it! Ford 150 was always an "employee discount" truck that you could get for under 50,000$ at the end of the year... Today, the cheapest XLT is around 75,000$ plus tax.. Lariat is close to a 100K

I wonder if Toyota will also increase Tundra 2023 price?

 

Model year 23 is about $1050 increase in price

 

Did not see 2023 price announcement.. We will see. No one knows for sure.

So far all other manufacturers had massive price increases.. With 10% official inflation and 20% unofficial.. Highly likely it will go up even more...

They can raise prices all they want.
What will be interesting to see is what happens in the next 3-6 months as rates keep going up - US Fed next week - and the economy slows further.
Did you see what happened to Fedex stock on Friday? That's a really good barometer of the economy. IMO.

What actual percentage of people buy new trucks with cash ?
I would think most Finance especially with the former Pandemic era interest rates before the rate hikes started.
Pre-qualified low rates have been supporting the vehicle business same as housing with mortgages.
Those qualified rates before the rate increases started, have now expired or will be expiring soon.
This means buyers qualifying today are at today's rates. Whether you are buying a $70k truck or a house.

I predict Vehicles especially expensive trucks will mirror Housing.
Affordability will or has already become so bad or ridiculous, that the demand drops, supply will get better, and...
we will see trucks on lots again - not just RAM - and this will be followed by discounts again.

Focusing on one aspect, a published car rate is "micro" thinking
We need to look at this at a "macro" view.
I gave the Fedex example.
Another example.
It starts getting expensive when your mortgage has triggered. Like many mortgages have or will have soon.
If Robert Smith needs to get rid of his new F150 or Tundra and be forced to buy and drive an older Chevy pickup to keep his house....
Good God Imagine having to do that ..... well he will do it.
Why ?
Because people care more about their house and keeping it than their vehicle.

Besides ...the rates you quote are within the range of what the actual US fed rate will be at next week.
If a dealer is advertising low rates, there is a beefed up price in the vehicle.
Nothing is for free.
At least we know we are at MSRP in Canada.
But hell - Canada Australia and New Zealand are the worlds biggest housing bubbles bursting as we speak.

 

100% in my house. Interest rates don't matter when you save and pay cash. 9/125 warranty means we'll be keeping her for a long while.

Very rare thing in Ontario. Average house price is around a million. Ppl buy houses with 30 year mortgages averaging 4,000$ monthly.. Add property tax, utilities, and you are over 5,000$ monthly before adding all major expenses (food, internet, clothing, etc.) Not that many ppl have 80,000$ on a checking account...

I hear ya. I live in the SF Bay Area. Same housing costs. I’m sure most other things are very similar. I find people buy too much house and don’t plan for normal living expenses.
I’m fortunate enough to have paid off my home.

overall people need to buy less house and less car. You can buy a tundra for 47k. You don’t have to have the 80k version.

 

The SR thread on here has got me considering one.
Low $40's for a 4x4.
My Titan was $42k in 2007, but actually the SR is nicer in some ways, like LED headlights, Android Auto 8" screen, self driving, pfft.... it's actually almost perfect, as a TRUCK.

 

Pics of Ford trucks in one of the storage areas waiting to be released onto the market. Makes me wonder how many will develop post pandemic storage disease. Symptoms include premature rust, electric issues, shortened battery life, ...

I myself would not be happy if I was told my Ford truck wait time was based on the truck still being built, when it was actually built, and sitting in one of these storage locations waiting for say 6 chips that cost pennies to make in China, to arrive. Just saying.

After many frustrations with getting a Tundra I just found the exact truck I want (crewmax 6.5 bed, white, tow mirrors, limited) only in an F150..... It has 30k miles and I can pick it up tomorrow, also 10K cheaper than the Tundra.

Getting close to pulling the trigger on this, and sitting out of this Tundra nonsense for 2 or 3 years

 

thats what I was going to do with that powerboost I tested, bet that since I could get one then if it wasnt good get a tundra is a few years.

then the test drive didnt go so well, so I decided I'll likely try again with the 2023 tundra.

 

Grab it. I got caught late last year between the two generations. My F150 V8 (yes remember those?) has been flawless and over 18k miles now. Many of those miles achieved on 1k miles days.....

 

Well, the F150 should be fine for another, I don't know, say 18K

 

Low blow. Every f150 I’ve owned was solid. My in laws still drive my 98 f150. 330k miles and counting.

 

It's funny you say that. I live at 6500' of elevation, so turbos have a significant advantage here. I was at the Ford dealer the other day for a recall and one of the sales people trotted out while I was looking at the new trucks and excitedly pointed to one, and said "That's one of them rare V8 trucks!"

Honestly, if I bought a new F150 now, I would seriously consider a 5.0 with the heavy duty payload package and the Ford Performance Whipple supercharger. At my elevation it would still be making 560 hp.

 

Not a Ford/Toyota thing, but I towed for the first time with my truck, bought a Grady White this week. I have towed a bunch with various NA engines, but was blown away (no pun intended) but the performance of the supercharged engine. I'm sure the Tundra is similar.

 

You can’t go wrong with the reliability And the resale value of the Toyotas. In my opinion, they hold true to their value and if serviced, they will last a lifetime

 

Any day on the water is a good day but the weather doesnt look like it cooperated for you. Anyway, I can imagine its a vast improvement. Ill be towing our Edgewater CC this weekend for the first time and I'll report back on the differences from the 5.7 Tundra

 

It was a very brief shower, turned beautiful quickly. Edgewater is a great boat. Yeah would love to hear your comparison report.

 

Sounds good. GW is a good boat too, just watch those wood transoms. EW has bad tanks, they all got flaws. Its like this thread could go to TheHullTruth

 

I’m not sure I agree, completely. These trucks break, and things wear out. My 07 blew a water pump at 42k and it was serviced properly. The serpentine belt was replace just prior…and damaged the pump, imo.

yes, if serviced helps, but that’s no guarantee of a long lifespan and I hope my measure of a lifetime is longer than yours. Lol

 

Towed our little Edgewater for first time with new truck. Did fine, less engine rpm’s needed than with the 5.7. Damn brake sensor locked up twice while backing up, what a pain in the a**

 

What length is that Edgewater?

 

20.5 officially. Its a good boat, rides like a bigger boat with the deeper V. I've had it in 5-6 footers in the Chesapeake, wasn't fun but I wasn't worried either
