The 2023 build page is out and Lunar Rock has indeed been discontinued on the TRD Pro - just a farewell post

Damn, that was a gorgeous color. I guess it was never going to be in the Pro lineup forever.

To me it makes no sense as that is a very popular color. My salesman even told me when we first started talking about the 22 Tundra, “I hope you don’t want Lunar Rock as we have a wait list of people wanting that color”. Well I’m not a smart man and thus why I don’t make those type decisions……:homer:

The Pro has almost always (I only say almost because I'm not 100% certain they never broke this system, but I doubt it) had a 4 color choice set up. The usual greyscale of Black, MGM, and White, and then whatever that year's special color is. Thinking Lunar Rock was going to be added to that just because it was popular was silly. Inferno Orange was popular. Cement was popular. Voodoo Blue was popular. Army Green was popular. Seeing the pattern?

Some call it silly, others may call it wishful thinking as they were planning on buying another truck in LR in a few more years…….

I'll be picking up a tundra at some point next year. Not even considering any 3rd gens because none of them come in voodoo blue. Been wanting a voodoo blue tundra since I first saw one 3 years ago. I'm sure there are plenty of folks who will like the MGM pro but to me it's just another gray/silver vehicle in a sea of gray/silver vehicles.

At least lunar rock was different.

I had a pretty hard time getting mine and its not even a pro. I was in the right place at the right time and they had one on its way in on a train. Put my $100 deposit down. But it was just dumb luck.

When is the change over? Is it possible a few more LR Pros will show up before 2023 change over?

The voodoo blue is definitely sweet. Not many colors pop like that one. I wish they would bring it back. Color is entirely subjective of course but there will be no love lost from me on the lunar rock disappearing. I never thought it was a very masculine color for a truck. A lot of people probably think my silver truck is too bland though, so what do I know lol. So long as they don’t replace the lunar rock with that overly flashy electric lime color! It works on some tacomas and 4Runners but not the tundra IMO.

I ordered a 2022 Lunar Rock TRD pro back in August. My dealer (in Ontario) told me Toyota wouldn’t get to my order until about January 2023. Any idea what’s going to happen now?
I imagine they won’t honour my lunar rock as it’ll be the 2023 model, but I am holding out hope.
does anyone have any inside info?
    Thanks in advance

I would not hold your breath for that color, if they are not going to get your order until Jan 2023, they won't build it. I actually think they have stop building them now.

I heard back from my dealer - well, I reached out too them - and I won’t be getting Lunar Rock.
It’s still the same timeline, whereas Toyota Canada won’t get to my order “until January, at least.”
Another dealer close by said that it was essentially a lottery to get a TRD Pro, and that they won’t even take orders for it because their allotment is so low.
Does anyone know how allotment works in Ontario? I was told the county of Los Angeles sells more than all of Canada

Toyota allocates units to dealers based on dealer sales and regional preferences. If your dealer is a low volume dealer or the region doesn’t move as many units, you will be waiting awhile.

I put in three deposits at three different dealer in three different states in Nov 21. I finally got my Lunar Rock Pro in August. Mine was the first Pro the dealer got while another local dealer had already gotten 4 (and jacked the price $10k whereas the dealer I used only charged MSRP).

case in point: Tundras in Texas are 5th in truck sales behind the big three and Tacoma. So if you’re waiting for a 4x4 Tundra you may have to wait longer than a customer in Colorado where Toyota Tacomas, 4Runners, Tundras, and Rav4s dominate the market; especially if you’re wanting a specialty Tundra like Pro. Toyota will allocate more trucks to CO where they can move more units.
As for LR going away, I was seriously hoping either LR or Cement would replace MGM. Of all Toyota’s colors, MGM is one of the least favorite. It’s why, in the “good old days”, dealer lots were riddled with MGM vehicles; people preferred the other colors first.

Could always get white and have it wrapped or painted Lunar Rock. If going that route, you could choose a color you like even better, that's one of a kind. My wife has a silver T4R and is wanting it wrapped satin tangerine.

I ordered a 2022 4runner trd premium lunar rock in February of 2022. I was just notified it will be a 2023 and is arriving from Japan by ship on 12/26. I will have it here in New York within 2 weeks. No other dealers could get the color but my dealer said they still have that color option. Crazy that it took about a full year to receive it. When I went to the build page it says it's no longer available, though.
