Essentially ODO value is the only thing that can be modified in the EEPROM since is not part of the checksum. Crack the checksum and you can change anything you want.

It would really take some time to isolate which addresses and data bytes map which specific gauge or function. I’m not 100% sure if everything covered in the map but I definitely know speed Rpm and fuel maps are in there.

Since we are talking about it here is a dump from one of my 2014 clusters. Yellow is ODO. Grey is 00 or FF which means no data. All blue and white is data which I think is gauge mapping ect. The blue part was just what I was focused on last time I looked at this.

Red numbers are where I think potential checksum could be. The data in the last two to three lines is interesting to me. Not sure if its part of the map or somthing else. The break of 00 and FF between it and the main code is worth noting.

I can't remember if it was one of your posts or somewhere else where the mapping of the ODO data was discussed... i.e. what the individual values were for specific odometer numbers.

I would have to go look up the conversion but I have it somewhere. I have done it several times. With a cluster in hand I can reflash it to any Odo value in 30 mins or less. Probably faster

Flashed my 2018 once and a 2014 several times for experimenting. Only downfall is it’s not exact. Within 5 miles is the tolerance due to rounding issues I believe.

Change the tire size and drive for a few thousand miles and you've introduced more error than that as it is...
Still seems so dumb to me that TMC doesn't offer the ability to set tire size correction via TechStream, especially given how popular it is to lift and upsize tires on their 4WD vehicles.

Hello, I did the swap as well. I have changed out my 2017s cluster to a 2018 cluster and everything works pretty much as he listed. I just swapped out the directional controls on the steering wheel the audio side works but the display side on the right side it does not. Was there something else that had to be done to get the steering wheel controls to work on the cluster? Thanks

There is a splice on the J45 connector I needed. Sorry, I can't speak to exactly which wires, Jeff knows & I'm sure will let you know.

Do you have it fully working or are you saying only some of the gauges work? Do you have pictures of the swap? I would be surprised if you just plugged it into your 17 truck and everything just worked without some major work on translating CAN messages.

The 4 way control for the cluster display is now run off of 3 wires. The 2017 older is a 1 wire system for the "display" button only.

To get full control of the 2018 cluster you have to add wires from the back of your clock spring at J45 into the rear of the instrument cluster.

Hello no I don’t have it fully working. Only the main stuff that you listed by plugging it in. I am asking about the steering wheel controls I updated them as well. The audio side works on the left but the controls for the cluster and menus do not work.

The 2018 steering wheel buttons won’t cycle the menu on the cluster or anything on the 2018 cluster in my 2017.

These 3 pins in blue go into the back of the instrument cluster and are the signal wires for the display control steering wheel buttons. This is were the signal comes into the cluster from the wheel.

    upload_2022-10-6_17-33-48.jpg

This is the J45 Spiral Cable connection that shows the other end of these 3 wires going to the steering wheel. This is where the signal comes out of the wheel and heads toward the steering wheel.
    upload_2022-10-6_17-35-2.jpg

You have to add in this link from the back of the steering wheel to the back of the cluster. Without it the display controls will never work.

As I mentioned above the 2017 cluster was controlled by only one wire. It just cycled to the next page.
The 2018+ requires 3 wires now to allow for up, down, left, right, enter movements.

Awesome so just splice the connections and run wires from the J 45 connector to the wires at the back of the cluster correct?

I think some of the connections in the wire harness plugs will be empty. To do it right you need wires with terminal pins on both ends that you can pop into the connectors.
You might end have to depin a wire or two and move them.

I don’t think the wires will be present to just splice into.

If you do this without the CAN translator you are only going to have a half working cluster with a lot of error messages. FYI

I would caution you before just moving stuff around as it could be hard to go back to the 2017 cluster. You might potentially have to depin and move everything back if you don’t plan on keeping the half working 2018 cluster

Shoot me a private message, we can talk about it. In all honesty I’m not sure it will ever be “available.” If you really really wanted I could build you a prototype harness with the same setup @e30cabrio and I have. Mainly because now you have a cluster that will be worthless without it. I would have to order parts and spend several hours building it all

Is it possible to reprogram the 2017 cluster to include display for speedometer and tire pressure? Were you able to get 2018 cluster working on 2017s? If cluster isn't an option do you know of any other options? eg separate unit for tire pressure and speed, etc? Just do radio upgrade and show there?

Having a speedometer display on the 2014-2017 cluster is not possible yet. Having tire pressure on the 2014-2017 cluster will be very diffucult and i doubt this ever becomes an option.

Yes the 2018 clusters are working in the 2017 trucks with a minor bug or two.

Really appreciate all the work you've done and shared here. At first I wasn't sure this would be worth it for me. But then again I intend to swap out my 26 gallon tank for the 38, put larger tires on, and possibly change the gearing. Would this be the best option to get accurate info (speed, rpm, mpg, distance to empty, etc.)?

Your biggest problem here will be the larger tires. Speed, Mpg, Distance (Odometer/trip) all come from the wheel speed sensors. A larger tire will travel a different preset distance in one rotation vs the stock tire the cluster is programmed for. The rough country or hypertech speedometer calibrator is the way to fix this.

The gears won’t matter as they are just a translation of engine rpm to wheel rpm. The wheel rpm is measure at each wheel by wheel speed sensor mentioned above.

Fuel tank I would get a 38 gallons cluster or try to reprogram yours to be 38 gallon instead of 26. If you don’t the cluster will always think 26 gallons is “Full” when it’s really 38. The range to empty will be off until your drop down below 26 gallons I believe.

Any updates this project? Seems really promising if you're able to offer it to the masses.

Some but minimal. Hard to find enough time to work on everything. The project is a huge undertaking but is possible. Some knowledge of automotive wiring is a must.

I think I have answers for a few bugs like TPMS data from 2017 and older trucks on the 2018 display and the small check engine light issue. I just need to write the code for both.

The masses could be the problem as time to assemble one of these right now is high. Of the 5 I have made each took several hours of soldering and building circuits. If this ever gets serious I will need a custom made PCB for fast east assembly. Maybe one day.

If all the bugs were worked out I would definitely buy one from you. I know the price would be steep because of the amount of labor and programming that went into it.

The amount of work here is incredible! Kudos to @Jeff_5_7 and everyone that has worked on this. Count me in if you ever decide to mass produce these.

Ive just read through all of this. I have to agree, that’s just an amazing amount of work, and I’m impressed that you got it to work at all. If you ever do get it to something you could produce…

This is amazing. I would also be interested in one to update my 2105 limited! Thanks everyone.

Quick video I did this morning testing on a 2018 Sequoia cluster. I sent data I logged from my 2007 network in, translated it to a format for the 2018 cluster and am able to drive the gauges ect.

Just a fun program to sweep the Speedo, RPM gauges and some other things.
