Was 2018 the last year anything was close to quality built?

I think quality was starting to go downhill but just went off the cliff around then. I would probably look for a low mileage <2018 if I were looking for a vehicle.

My 2019 has been great for 40k miles. Added a transmission cooler and upgraded the suspension. Those were wants not needs.

What was the actual build date on it though? My 2019 was built in Dec of 2018.

11/18. But I really don’t see how it would be different in any meaningful way if the build date was two months later.

Stuff didn't go downhill until the great plague and all that was done to "address" it. Things seem to be improving though.

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
When they stopped having a locking gas door and sound deadening in the floor boards.

Ford stopped pre-inspecting parts for assembly and their warranty claims went up 10%. That is a LOT of claims given how many vehicles they build. The US is addicted to cheap labor ad cheap items. I have always said they could make a vehicle that would last 25 years but no one would want to pay the cost to build it.

Assuming you're talking trucks specifically, it depends on the manufacturer. No issues with my Tundra built in Q4 2019. Ram and GM went downhill in 2019 because they rolled out new models. Ford got much worse in 2017 it seems to me; can't say for sure why.

I'm with Adam that the big quality drop was in March 2020.

I would agree with that. No issues on mine that was built in Feb 2020. So glad we haven't needed a new vehicle since I got the Tundra. I'm still not ready to trust anything new, and it's looking like it'll be a while before I do.

2021 - built June 2021, bought July 2021. Best built truck I have had so far, so if the quality has fallen off like people claim I must be easy to please. Zero interior creaks or rattles, which is a first for me even after a 2018 Tacoma and a 2020 Highlander and makes me happy.

Yes I added a transmission cooler.
