What's hard on your CV axles?

 

Going to be the idiot to ask this question but would rather know for sure.

i can be driving on the highway & switch my truck into 4Hi without having to go into neutral, correct?

 

Yes but not to 4lo.

 

Plan ahead and engage the 4-Hi before getting stuck. lol
engage 4-Hi while the car can or is moving ...

@Ruggybuggy how damaging is it when you hear the noise or a clunk when the 4WD actuators engage or lock? I assume since its typically not a daily event or activity (engaging 4-HI), it shouldn't be a problem but it doesn't sound good.
Granted over the years of owning a few Tacomas and Tundra I've learned the trick as how to engage and disengage the 4-HI without any noise but once in a great while, I still hear it. Are the gears grinding when you hear that sound?

 

Please excuse the hijack. For those who live in Canada. What part # does that block heater have?

 

The CLUNK happens when the drivetrain is under "tension" when the 4WD is trying to engage. If the truck was in neutral and the wheels where all straight ahead and the truck was in motion then 4WD could engage without the CLUNK but because that rarely happens and the truck is in drive and the wheels are sometimes turned you can get the CLUNK. The noise is concerning but normal and doesn't result in any damage.
