What set off the alarm? The motion created from trying to wrestle off the cats?

I feel for you. Month 4 for me, and no sign. Apparently the wait for passenger side is shorter, but that won't help you...

When mine were stolen, my aftermarket Compustar remote start/alarm went off twice according to my Drone Moblie app..
    First @ 12:03 (noon) then again @ 12:06, both stage 2 alrams.
Stage 1 is like a booming stereo driving by, stage 2 means shit is going down.
I'm sure when they started cutting it triggered the first one and once it reset they were still trying to cut the hanger peg off.
As previously stated they left that side hanging..

Unfortunately, I was 90 miles away and couldn't do anything about it..

They probably banged the pipe against something and triggered the glass breakage sensor.

Pine tar starts to melt @140F and is fully fluid @300F. Good luck with that.
Super Glue appendages together would be survivable.

They have been targeting school buses in Richmond. Not the smartest people, few of the buses had mufflers cut out and the cats left.

The estimate is in from the insurance company, they'll pay less than half of the repair costs. They based their estimate on the lowest bidder for the parts. We all know what kind of problems those will cause. The shop did offer to install a bypass that will let me drive the truck until the parts arrive. I'm going to contact the insurance company to see if they'll pay for that. If not, I may soak them for a rental as long as possible.

Negotiate with the insurance company and present a good faith argument as to why those parts won’t work. They will always lowball you on the first offer. Bastards. If you need to you can hire an attorney for a few hundred bucks to write a letter as a last resort.

the aftermarket parts won’t fit properly and don’t have as much in the way of catalyst. They also will not last as long and will start throwing codes. Present evidence of that.

I tried that. They just kept repeating that my policy allows for non-OEM parts. Their ads keep telling me they're "like a good neighbor", I'm beginning to think that neighbor's name is Karen.

After seeing all the recent posts about cats getting stolen, I finally purchased a set of RCI cat guards. Hardest part was dropping the trans skid to mount them up. Happy with coverage and fitment.

It should also state that it has to be brought back to within the original specifications and that you can choose the shop that does the work. The dealer won’t install aftermarket parts like that, generally, so you might try insisting on using the dealer for the work. This isn’t a headlight, this is federal emissions equipment.

Furthermore you might want to contact an attorney that specializes in these things and ask for a free consultation.

Remember, it is an insurance company’s job to make money, not protect their customers, which means they always try to deny claims, or take the cheapest route possible.

I had a worker at the last center I managed that had the cat cut out of their F250. Insurance paid for the replacement.

About 3 months later, sitting in the same lot*, the same thing happened. I asked if they had plates put on after the first theft and the answer was “no” because “insurance wouldn’t pay for that.”

The second theft had them driving a rental with the truck in a shop for months. Insurance did not pay for THAT.

At this point, not having plates on a gas truck is like leaving your doors unlocked.

Id say, if you live in a place where you can straight-pipe, just do that. Otherwise get plates.

*I parked in the same lot. During the last 3 years, 7 vehicles lost cats to thieves, 2 of those were hit twice each. I am very sure they scoped my truck and moved on to the easy targets because I had installed plates.

Sorry to hear about your cats being stolen. I never heard of this going on until I read some “cat stolen threads” on here. As soon as I could I ordered the cat guards from RCI since I already had their engine and transmission skids. I do feel they need to redesign the back guards to cover more. So far, I haven’t read or heard of anyone getting their cats stolen while having cat guards on. D1763618-436F-4D3B-A360-B5A78DD4F12F.jpg

I forgot to add. If I ever catch anyone trying to steal my cats or anything else from my truck, they’ll wish they were never born. That’s all I’ll say about that.

    TEXAS!

if you are in deep in the heart of texas as your profile reflects, check out the consumer bill of rights published on the texas department of insurance's website.

check out #5. you have the right to choose your shop and the right to choose your parts. an insurance company may not specify brand.

    demand oem!

my bill was $9400 at a toyota dealer in sugarland in february of 2021. geico covered all but my $500 deductible.

FYI: you policy probably does allow for aftermarket parts, but it also allows for oem. they "accidentally always" fail to tell you the latter.

Correct, but guess who decides the "reasonable amount". My options are either 1. Get a lawyer or 2. Get the truck fixed and move on. I lose less money with option 2. You can rest assured that my agent and I will be having a little discussion when it's time to renew.
