Not really sure. I just did my first at home oil change last night at 30k and I use Mobile 1. Hard to believe in the 2 oil changes the dealer did under my Toyotacare that they lost a screw and retainer that holds the bumper cover to the skid plate. Also, I'm pretty sure they used the ugga duggah to tighten the oil filter housing. I had to use a 2 foot long breaker bar to loosen it. Same as when I bought my Camry years ago.

My dealer at my house use mobile 1 and factory filter also torque the oil filter housing with a torque wrench to 18 ft/lb

Reason number 1,298,453 why I do my own oil changes. And I use whatever oil is on sale. Synthetic oils are all the same unless you’re buying a true synthetic.

What is a true synthetic. The stuff they use in F1 engines or the stuff the Germans made in 1940.

I've used Castrol Syntec, Mobil 1, and Amsoil. 0-20w.

Amsoil is the only one that's made the 5.7 run quieter at startup and after operating temp has been reached.

Master techs don't do minor stuff at the dealerships. The helpers and gophers do...so yeah not hard to believe.

I recently started purchasing my stuff for DIY oil changes (metal housing, drain valve, etc).

I'll bring it to my trusted local garage for major service but want to be a bit more hands on with this one.

There’s no major service on 2.5 tundra. Engine is timing chain w/ coils, don’t have to do much but spark plugs, filters and oil change

By true, I mean a higher base stock oil. Off the shelf synthetics are typically group3. But let’s face it, no engine that I have ever heard about failed because of the type of oil. That’s why I run a trusted brand, whatever is on sale and do it every 5k. The EPA and Toyota can suck a big one if they think I am doing 10k oil changes.

Do be advised there have been at least two threads here of late where a good intention oil change turned out disastrous. So watch what you are doing.

The dealership is the LAST place I'd go for an oil change. The one and only "free" oil change and rotation i did at the dealer cost them over $1k to replace my brand new wheels they F'd up. They literally chowdered every lug hole with the impact gun. They also forgot to reinstall one of the skid plate spacers and nuts. Run...run far away from any dealership for an oil change if you like your truck.

If I have to use my breaker bar for my oil change...I'll stop and rethink what I'm doing and bring it back to the last place that did it (local garage) and ask them to explain or take it off.

I don't know what oil my dealer uses. I've had 9 new-from-the-dealer Toyota since 1985. And not once has a dealer ever come near my prized ride.

I'm at 83,000 miles on my Tundra and have been using Mobil 1 (5W30). Next time I'm switching to Costco Kirkland.

I had a dealership perform an oil change out of laziness and immediately regretted it. Lesson learned. I will always do my oil changes every 5000 miles or 6 months from now on.

Edit: I don't know what the dealers use, but I've had good results with supertech and kirkland brand oil (both made by warren). Shell Platinum is a great oil too. When I opened up a valve cover on one of my vehicles, the inside of the engine was spotless.

So I took a chance an used the last oil service under my 2 year Toyota Care. Marked the filter housing. In the end they changed the oil, filter and used Toyota motor oil. Washed the truck also, first wash in a year. In a nutshell they changed it last year at 6k miles and this year at 7800 miles. No issues.

I don’t know. I’ve never gone back. I bet they would say Toyota OEM, but I don’t know that I would trust that answer.

On a video from the 'car care nut' (posted on here somewhere) about following Toyota's terrible oil drain intervals he says they use whatever is the cheapest bulk they can buy. I believe him.

The car care nut is a nut. I saw one of his video on a LS460 and he mentioned how the door locks don't work and they are $400 each. Fk its a $3 motor off ebay and an hour of work. He great at sending cars to the salvage yard because he a parts changer. I doubt any car leaves his shop for less than $5K.

    True.

I did both doors on my wife's LS460L.

it was a bitch...but it was $3. it was $1200 per door @ Lexus.

But it’s a Lexus, lol. When the wife and I bought her new Lexus, they were trying so hard to sell us anything they could. I told them I do all the maintenance. Finance guy tells me, but it’s a Lexus, and pretty much saying if you drive a Lexus you shouldn’t be doing the maintenance and thinking of yourself as high class. I was about to tell him, dude just stop it’s a Toyota.

Toyota and Lexus same parent company not same technology. my 2001 Lexus gs300 has a variable displacement compressor that doesnt cycle the clutch on and off but runs continuously. Blows 36F out the vents. My 2001 lexus gs 300 upper control arms have spherical bearings vs tundra rubber bushings. I can go on and on. lexus is a superior vehicle over toyota. my 2001 lexus has memory seats, my 2021 limited tundra doesnt, that is embarrasing. My lexus has electric fans which dont roar, my tundra roars on every start up.....

Whatever this forum told me to do
    so back to dealer oil.

I know 2 folks that work in service....1 Toyota 1 Dodge

both say the dealer uses bulk oil (yes, in the barrels). 5w-30.

My Niece's husband is service mgr at mom/pop shop. they use bulk oil as well.

    it's the most cost effective.

The OEM UCA on the GS uses rubber bushings on the inboard mounts like the Tundra and most others. Sphericals aren't used due to high NVH. The ball joint is a type of spherical, but the Tundra uses those too. https://www.lexuspartsnow.com/parts/lexus-arm-assy-front-suspension-upper-lh~48630-39055.html

The Platinum comes with memory seats.....

The fan roar is a good thing. Mechanical fans are more reliable/durable and also move way more air than electric fans. That's why the LX450, LX470, LX570, LX600, GX470 and GX460 use mechanical fans that roar just like the Toyota versions of each did.
