Does anyone have an RTT mount that goes in the stake pockets (I assume) and the bottom of the bars are high enough you can have a dirt bike underneath them? I don't have exact measurements yet of that height, but will get them this afternoon.

It would also be awesome if said rack also could drop down so the tent sat below the cab for non-dirtbike related driving. I saw a Thule rack that looked like it could work.

What about a hitch carrier for your dirt bike? Then you could keep your tent low full time.

I do have one and have used it, but they become a liability for any off road travel more than highway to trailhead. I put a handlebar though the back of a truck camper over a ditch I didn't see once, whoops.

I think there needs to be a little bit of managing expectations when bringing bikes and other toys along the way. If hitch carrier isn't an option, I'd consider a trailer before putting a RTT way above the cab line. I also go back to thinking it'd be a pain tying in a bike with a tent in the way. I'd also question whether the collapsible Thule bed racks are rated for off-road abuse with the weight of a tent vs. a solid bed rack.

I think you'd have to make a custom bed rack for what you want. Or lay the bike on its side and slide it into the bed. Or make a hitch receiver that doesn't sit low.

KB Voodoo sells a 24” inch rack that will probably get the job done for you. I don’t think it’s the ideal option and would consider what others have said, but you should be able to stuff a bike under there. Also, do you have a DC or Crewmax? If you have to kiddy-corner the bike in a crewmax bed, then a rack probably won’t work at all.

Maybe mount a front hitch receiver? Curt makes one for the Tundra. Putting a tent up that high might make the truck a little squirrely at highway speeds.

I've seen a few rigs running around in the PNW pulling teardrops/trailers that have bikes in front of the grill, roof rack loaded up with kayaks and a bed full of camping gear.

What is the height of your bike from ground to top of the bars? That will determine if something adjustable like the Thule could work. However, know that to adjust them you likely have to remove the tent so it's not a quick task.

Some guys go custom with something like this (stolen pic from the internet) but the center of gravity on the truck with something up so high can be sketchy. Not to mention catching on trees.

I used a ladder rack for my RTT 5 years back so I could have my topper on underneath. I'd imagine that a dirtbike would fit. Don't have measurements, but it was tall!

That looks like one of those ladder racks meant to sit just outside/above fiberglass cap. The shop I got my cap from sells Holman ladder racks. Might be a solid option for the OP.

Great pic! Where is that? Looks very familiar but I can't place it.

I had initially thought of doing the same thing, but in order to clear the bike the rack and tent would be so high up that it would kill your cg and cause a ton of drag in the wind. Not to mention never fitting in a garage again. And then you have to consider how awkward getting the bike in and out of the truck with the rack above it would be.

As far as hitch carriers, I did a 150 mile offroad trip, about half of which was pretty rocky, with this setup. You just have to pick good lines and watch out for ledges and ditches. And I have a cheap one that isn't the most stable platform ever.

Lots of good thoughts and info here. The ladder rack is an excellent idea and I'll have to look into that.

In regards to the managing expectations comment, that is a very fair point, every setup has some type of trade off (and I have done them all). The tent above the bike isn't great, but the security (both from theft and falling off) gained somewhat outweighs the downsides of the higher CG, and lower fuel economy.

If I end up doing a hitch rack I'll just get a slide in pop up camper, greatly increased comfort, and probably similar MPG to the huge tent above the cab.

Thank you for the input, I'll let everyone know what I decide.

That’s it! I think I have a pic from that exact same spot!

Could add a roof rack over the cab, and mount the rtt there... I had that setup on my 08 Tacoma for years. Worked great, didn't help my MPGs any but what do you expect.

I think this is the best option with a smaller/lighter hardshell tent. Either this, or as pointed out by @helidave , be aware of your line and your rig with a hitch hauler. Stacking high just has too many ways it can go wrong, including the leveraged weight on the bed sides.

If a ridgeline can do it, a Tundra can do it better.

Imagine this kind of setup! You aren't climbing down to the ground, can have your shoes and other stuff outside the tent, but still in the bed of the truck!

This was going to be my suggestion. Get the RTT on the cab to free up OH space in the back. Assume you would need a Crewmax for that to work.
