I have a SR on the way and it does NOT have the $430 tow package from toyota. I initially didnt care because Ive installed a few trailer hitches in the past and its an easy bolt on thing. And there's usually a wire harness in the rear of the vehicle that you can just plug & play into for your lights and you're good to go. But Ive seen some mixed reviews on line about this and about the lighting being a problem. Apparently there is some "relay" you have to buy and the connection is in the middle of the truck somewhere VS the rear of the vehicle, etc etc....

so just wanted some clarification on this. dealer doesn't know off hand. of course I can push the issue with the dealer and get an answer. but just wanted to know if anyone on here knows FOR SURE the correct answer.

if toyota only charges $430 for the option, I cant imagine this is an elaborate install.

I would guess not many people buy a truck without a hitch so there probably isn't too many people that have had to look into this, especially with a new model with relatively few of them on the road.

I can't believe that they even bother to tool up, manufacture and sell a truck without a hitch..... The bumper and the hitch are integrated so making one without a hitch requires a unique bumper. It is a special part that probably costs more than the hitch itself.....

Below the bumper huh? I wonder what that will loook like.

anyways … the electrical just looks like a standard/generic “tap into the tai lights” kinda set up. Not actually plugging into the factory harness
