What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

You can work on it in the street but not your driveway?

 

Yeah, as weird as that sounds, I can so long as I don’t spill any fluid. The most I do in my parking spot(s) is just check for problems, but not any work and even that’s questionable.

 

I wish more cities had mechanic/wrenching areas like you find on-base, so people have somewhere flat, safe, level to work on their vehicles if they're stuck in housing that would otherwise prevent it. Then again, knowing the lack of discipline the general public has compared to military personnel, they'd probably be abused, trashed.

It always makes me happy when I hit any of the forts or afb around me or my parents house, seeing younger dudes out in the auto hobby/auto skills areas wrenching on their cars. Strangely enough, it seems like the vast majority is Nissans, I've always wondered why....

 

Liability is the big problem around here. Nobody wants a DIY shop where the customer can get hurt no matter what waiver they sign. It's one of the reasons so few shops are willing to perform structural welding repair on a vehicle.

Only in the last few years, they put in cameras at every shop/gas station doing yearly inspections since someone sued a shop for not checking their brakes which failed and caused an accident.

 

Similar to how it’s next to impossible to find a decent all weather track for intervals. They are all fenced and locked up tight. Even running on a flat surface purposely built for running, apparently that’s too risky to do without suing if something goes wrong.

 

Thanks for that. First 4.0 to enter the circle. Anything to look at maintenance-wise? 250k on the clock. But it’s Hawaii and my dad’s 5th vehicle (between his gf’s 2 and his 2 others) so it’s going to see super light duty now (beach and Costco trips).

 

Visited a friend’s shop today where we replaced the front needle bearing as well as the center carrier bearing for the two piece drive shaft. The little 00 AC is coming along nicely!

 

Probably has the timing cover leak. Ignore it. Just make sure it sounds good and the plugs are up to date. The 4.0 is pretty low maintenance

 

Never realized how much carrier bearings look like one-wheel contraptions.

 

I installed d ring shackles today. Tbh it’s mostly for looks or maybe a light recovery. I’ll have to make stronger brackets sometime for it. And yes the passenger side does hang lower right now

 

Yeah, it's more natural that way. Always be suspicious if they both hang equally low.

 

it's also less comfortable. But - it sounds like the OP knows those freight points aren't real recovery points unless you make them so.

 

I mean, if you think about it, having them hanging at different heights keeps you from uncomfortable direct contact nobody wants to feel. They can't smack into each other as easily. Besides, it just looks more natural.

 

Talk about a company that leaned on Retailers to grow then fucked them all over as soon as their brand took off....

We sure did have some awesome wrecks by the staff on our demo though!

Got the backing plate installed and painted and the cable supports as well. Also added that strip magnet on the table so that it holds closed when its folded up.

On a side note, ended up selling a bunch of photo equipment, so might be regearing adding a rear locker and going to 33s soon! Yay

 

Ha- I thought that one was completely electronic - I stand corrected. It's obviously not going to blow doors, but that's not really the point there.

It wasn't my point to correct ya but I did go to that site, and really dig the library of audio clips they have demonstrating all their products. There have been a bunch of times I've considered horns advertised, but it's just a gamble without hearing one. There are several that sounded awesome on that site. Is that where you got yours? if so which model?

I got the "Safety Horn". It sounds like the wave file. It's a pretty safe bet if you got the air and run 1/2" line. And have the space - it's 6X26". Loud as hell though.

 

Nice! Yeah that was one of the few single horns that I liked. The battleship ones sound cool too. I don't think I'll be satisfied without sounding like a train tho. 3 horn minimum. And would DEFINITELY need the switch to be somewhere else. I accidentally hit my horn all the time. Not a fan of the entire steering wheel as a switch

 

That's why I remoted my switch, so it's not the steering horn. But, someone mentioned wiring through the horn for highway trips, etc, and using a toggle as a cut off for the air switch, so the steering horn gives you both or just factory...I'll leave mine as is for now - we got stuff to do!

 

Got the new tires on today. It looks awesome in my opinion. Definitely not as sharp handling as the stock size coopers but well worth it . No rubbing as of right now but turning and hitting the right bump I’m sure it will.

 

Is that magnet strong enough to keep it from knocking open on the bumps? I'd be so annoyed to find that shelf had opened & wore a spot on my tailgate.

 

On this Imperial steering wheel - the padded section in the middle is not the horn button.
The black rubber ring running around the inside circumference is the horn "button".
Squeeze the black ring anywhere to activate the horn.
Great idea, but that black 'rubber' would get hard & then it didn't work anymore. :-(

 

I agree, and definitely thought about that too. It is a really strong magnet though and if it isnt strong enough I have more magnets I can add on either side. Then it should be really strong, but might almost be hard to drop down the table. Also, Im thinking of adding a piece of foam to the underside of the table in case it does come loose wont mess up my tailgate.

Also, if it does come loose, the table would actually run into the tailgate handle and not the actual painted area.

 

Did you paint your skid plate silver? It looks pretty good.
