T100 Brake Booster Upgrade

I think I documented this in a few previous posts. I had to adjust the length of my push rod to stop my brakes from locking up.

 

I have the same issue as you. Maybe the rod isn’t traveling far enough on the first push but builds up enough pressure to feel firm on the second. Maybe adjusting the rod out will provide more pressure on the first push. I’ll give it a shot next free time.

 

I don't know if you have the OEM-style push-rod, but it might be worthwhile playing around with it, or possibly replace it with an adjustable one and play with that one. You can separate the MC from the booster without needing to bleed the brakes or do anything special. Not too difficult to mess with.

 

So I pulled the trigger and ordered 14wa calipers which I had them shipped to the machine shop to get milled. Also ordered crown performance SS brake lines. Now trying to get a hold of EBC rotors and orange pads nobody has them in stock.

 

So a little update my brakes feel great now after I adjusted the push rod. But snice my caliper where super hit and sticking a little going to upgrade to the GX460 calipers. EBC rotors are all back ordered for months so I'll get oem 4runner rotors with ebc orange pads.

 

Ok so bringing this thread back up from the dead, update on the upgrade of the M/C and booster. It's working great better then stock and better then some newer brake systems. I am noticing some very low squealing noise from the brakes. Not sure exactly what it could be or if it's comes from the rear or front. It's not loud just has a high pitched squel. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

I actually have this on my truck naturally. I just assumed it's the pads. They're definitely not worn on mine, but it's done this all the years I've had the truck.

 

That's what I was thinking also I'm using EBC orange pads of front and oem shoes on the rear.

 

I'm not 100% positive what pads the PO put on mine, but they were virtually new when I bought the truck. Same with the shoes.

I've always had a faint squeaky squeal, usually at slow speeds, like when braking as I'm backing out of the garage, etc. Definitely stock rotors. I thought it was the squealers signaling the brake pads were getting low, until I took the wheels off and inspected, brake pads are virtually new. Dunno.

Anyway, I haven't done the upgrade, my truck already has WLs, maybe it's just a typical thing? Or is possibly a symptom of aftermarket pads?

 

Mine are quiet.

 

Mine absolutely scream when I'm backing up after sitting overnight. Does it the whole way down the driveway. Did it before and after I changed pads, rotors, and hardware. I'm sure the neighbors hate it. If I go less than 1 mile per hour it doesn't do it but that's it.

 

Mine squeal in reverse too. Always have, even after brand new WL swap. I'm pretty sure a lot of ours do.

 

@Dave8699 this is not to say there's not something wrong with yours, but apparently you're not alone, nor am I...

 

Mine as well, until warmed up.

 

Mine used to squeal in reverse at start up too. Haven't noticed it lately though.

 

Every toyota I've ever seen, had, or driven has always had squeaky brakes on the first drive of the day or in reverse.

No squeak here, forward or reverse. It might be covered up by my horrendous lca bushing squeak though!

 

Same, even the rear discs on the 4runner do it

 

Wow ok so I'm guessing it's normal, now does the squeak go away once driving?

 

Mine tends to. Sometimes I hear it when I'm creeping coming up to a light. I don't hear it during normal-speed braking.

 

Possibly not enough grease on the back of the pads or pins?

 

I'm guessing you didn't use copper anti-seize on those solos - neither did I. I should have read the directions better. But I fixed it.

EDIT; Copper anti seize sucks. I added zerks and grease them now and then...

I want to state again that mine only squeal backing up. Forward driving zero noise.

 

How do you normally park? Nose in towards house forcing you to back up first or???

 

I face forward in the driveway. Admittedly to keep the water from leaking in from that roof weather stripping piece that I need to pull the topper back and redo/clean. If it wasn't for that I would back in.

 

Curious on this part, I did the swap to the t100 parts and my brake pedal is super stiff. How do you adjust the push rod?

 

It's pretty simple to adjust the push rod. In my case I had to adjust it all the way in. The hardest part is releasing the lock nut on the rod. The booster has pushrod that has the rounded nut and the luck nut. I used needle nose to hold the luck nut. Also if possible measure the distance on the M/C to see how much the push rod goes inside.
