With the Gen-3 Tundras and bad economy what are you seeing with the re-sale market for our V-8’s?

hard to say since the used car market has been high for a while and if the V8 Tundra makes a distinct difference for that variable. idk

I saw a member post over on the 3gen a Vroom buy out on his current 22Pro vs his old 21Pro. They were paying him more for the 21. Could it be a glitch, who knows. But with all the issues and prices the 2.5 is looking better and better everyday. I just got an offer from my dealer. They want to sell me a plane Jane 22 SR5 for $52600 and that’s MSRP. Who would pay $52k for a SR5? Sorry Toyota but it’s not worth it.

I don’t see 2nd gen resale value spiking due to issues with the 3rd gen. It has been pretty quiet with 3rd gen issues anyway.

But the values of an older generation of a Toyota truck or suv has never plummeted due to the release of a new generation. Look at all the old Tundras, Tacomas, Sequoias, 4Runners, and Land Cruisers. They just keep retaining their value, particularly when the new gen is more expensive.

Although I will not deny that I got great money for my 2.5 gen (2017) that doesn't by any means make me worry about the value of my 2022 purchase.
Being that SR5s begin at $41k that $52k truck isn't "plain Jane" and I'm more than happy paying $54k (MSRP) for my SR5, way better than 60,70, 80, from any of the competition.

In the PNW the V8 Tundras have actually come down in price. I think most vehicles have. My buddy who stopped looking for a 2.5 gen due to price is now looking again. He said $5k+ dropping in prices.

Yep, it’s happening. HD trucks, Sequoias, & LXs, too. More of a general market trend around here.

I have the SX model. I built a SR5 with exactly what I have, which isn’t much and the build price was around $47k +ttt. A friend at work also just bought a SR and he paid $51+k for it. Now you are more than welcomed to spend/waste your money as you see fit but I am not going to pay $16k over what I paid out the door for my 2020. No one on this planet can convince me to believe that a SR5 is worth $52 or that it has $16k worth of extras over my 2020, I paid $39k OTD. And you are correct I wouldn’t pay $60-80k for a depreciating vehicle. But then again what’s another $6k to your $54k to buy a $60k vehicle. As far as the value of your truck, well that remains to be seen and regardless of it value you are already at a loss since you paid MSRP. My dealer has had a platinum sitting on their lot for about a month now. I guess people are starting to wise up.

People are waking up. Those that have no need to trade in won’t do it. They will just wait till this craziness stops and it will. And all the people that paid MSRP are going to go the long haul with their keeping up with the Joneses new truck. Or they just flip the negative equity into the new Joneses vehicle.

I think the sharp rise in gas prices brought down the demand for V8's and full sized trucks and had people looking at hybrids and smaller vehicles... Towards the end of that hysteria I bought my Tundra $10K off the listed price and gas prices here where I live plummeted (relatively) so it'll be interesting to see in a few years.

I think there will definitely be the allure of the 2020/21 Tundra's being the "Last new old truck" in the coming decade.

I see too much drama, the gas mileage has ALWAYS been bad. That should have been thought about when purchasing. Its a Toyota truck and it does what it is supposed to do, not a good commuter choice. In real life does the new Turbo V6 do that much better?

That's my attitude also. My Alpha female daughter and her colleagues have racked up 70k miles in 18 months doing animal rescues, towing 5k lbs over the Rockies 70% of the time. I'm open to something with better mpg, but the bottom line is at high altitude all engines drink fuel way more than EPA ratings. The real test is how many miles can a drivetrain go with severe duty like that? I'm comfortable with the old reliable Yota V8 drivetrains to keep chugging along to 300k miles. That's about five years from now, I'll evaluate the newer generation drivetrains when they get some miles on them.

I don't think they will spike or appreciate, may be the PROs. But, they will maintain their values over time, still great trucks with a good ol' naturally aspirated V-8, who wouldn't want that?

Having just bought a used 2021 and i have been looking for the past 3 months i would say in the last month prices on 2.5 gen coming down a bit. Then it really depends on what part country you are in as well. I ended up buying out if state for the best deal. There gonna hold value no doubt and i belive the 2021 production run was like 88k trucks so there gonna remain. In demand.

Do you believe yout dollar is worth the same now as it was when you bought your truck? The MSRP went up every year of the 2/2.5 gen Tundra's market life, and there were frequently no changes at all. It is the currency losing value combined with all the R&D of a new vehicle, and the fact that it is the market norm for the segment. Your unwillingness to pay for it or inability to see it means precisely dick to the market and value.

Obviously not but it’s only .14cents more. My unwillingness to pay for it means that the market didn’t sell it because of the ridiculous prices and unwillingness to negotiate off the MSRP. So yes it does mean dick to the market. That’s why Toyotas profits are down, among other issues. Regardless, nothing in the 3rd gen is worth $15k more over the previous gen.

I'll never get rid of my 2020. I bought it because I wanted the 5.7. That 2022 is so damn ugly. I do not like anything about it, no matter what people ha e done to it. The prices are rediculous as well.

I bought my 20 because my lease was up. But I was going to release a 23. Once I saw the prices, he’ll no. That would be like a $600 lease payment considering that aren’t negotiating.
