My truck is currently in the shop for a suspension upgrade. I am going to run Icon stage two up front. Some folks recommended to go with icon RXT leaf spring kit which would replace the existing leafs. The shop has mentioned just adding ICON springs to what I have in the rear which is the OEM springs

I do not have heavy mods on my truck. It is stock weight front and rear.

Does any one have suggestions on what to run in the rear or are you running ICON up front and something different in the rear?

    Would love some opinions.

Would you suggest completely replacing the leafs in the rear or install a mini pack? My truck is all standard weight. Trying to make best decision for ride quality on longevity on my truck. Truck height im aiming for is 3".

You can get 3" in the rear without a pack replacement by using the RAS and a shackle lift. If you're concerned about springs flattening out, you should def replace the entire thing. Hard to say if you should go full replacement as you didn't say you haul anything or plan to add weight via recovery gear, tools, bumpers....

I have about 600 extra lbs at all times.

Unless you plan to carry a lot of weight, go mini-pack and call it a day. I ran a Deaver mini for close to 100K and it worked great. I have RXT's now due to more weight and wanting more travel as my goal.

My rtx pack has been great. I have mine set to option 3 which gave me 3 1/2" over stock when unloaded and right around 3" with some tools in the back. Rides nice when the truck is empty but rides amazing with some weight in the back.

This is where I get confused a bit. Is the mini pack what typically comes with something like a stage 2 icon front?

I have the Icon expansion pack (mini pack) that replaces some of the pieces in the middle of your stock leaf springs. Definitely an improvement over stock, and it's way less $ than a whole new leaf spring. Overall I like it, but I want to get new leafs to further improve the ride and get more travel.

I'm running icon stage 8 so it's the 2.5 RR coilovers up front for about 2"3/4" lift. They are not set to max so they could probably go up to 3" or more but I wanted a little rake for when I load the back up. Also running 2.5 rtx shocks in the back.

What leafs are you looking at to improve ride over the mini pack?

The only thing I could imagine adding weight to the rear is if I ever added a shell to the back. It may be the mini pack (just adding to what I have already) would suffice for my setup.

^^^ this probably only need some good quality shackles like coachbuilder on the factory packs.

I had the RXT pack on my heavy truck. They were very squeaky and creaky without proper shims between the leaves nor tip pads on every leaf. They rode nice once set for proper weight but I would attribute most of that to the shocks and having a properly sprung ride per the quote above.

Not sure yet. Probably look into some custom ones from Alcan. The mini pack is good enough for now that it's not a real high priority.

Think I may go mini pack just in case the need for any tow or load in the bed. Not sure how much rake I will have but it seems like it may be unavoidable with these setups. Though maybe a little rake is necessary for those just in case moments.

Yes, this is what the shop recommended me install. Then I got to reading and pretty much confused myself and unknowingly spend more money or install things I don't need.

Precisely the reason I asked the question to the forum. Trying to learn and pick out what I need while it's in the shop being worked on. They are going to call me when time to install rear to see which route I want to go. Im pretty sure the shop, who does A LOT of off road installs etc, is rolling their eyes by now. But hey, just trying to get what I want/need now not later.

btw, i am a noob at this stuff if you can't already tell and Im learning everyday I read this forum and ask questions. I am also finding myself wanting to spend more money too. :spending:

Where I get confused is when the RXT came into play over the mini pack which what comes with the stage two already.

Stay away from RXT's if you can't deal with squeaky bushings, its fixable but comes back after every rain or playing in the dirt. A pack with replaceable poly/delrin bushings will be better in this regard since you can grease before install or replace without much effort (other than the usual).

Honestly thats the only downside of this pack, it's much softer for daily and can be tuned to your needs with the additional leaf.

Im thinking for my use and set up the standard Stage 2 with mini pack will be fine. Has to be an improvement over what I am currently running which is/was OEM TRD-off road billsteins with pro-comp spacer leveling kit.

I think you need to plan on what your future use case of the truck will be also. That should help determine what springs you need. I hate doing shit twice.

Hence my questions. Trying to get it all on one invoice. haha.

Im investing in my Tundra because I want it to at least get me to 350K miles. Im currently at 123K+ So I see it as smart investing 101. o_O

My suspension was way overdue for an upgrade anyway.

Most of us who heavily upgraded suspension did so way before 100k so yeah you are playing catch-up :p

The plan was to keep my Tundra the way it was and purchase a new car for travel. However, I like having no car payment. haha
