I get 14-18 in my '05 Tundra. When I had my '12 Tundra I got about the same. My work truck is an '18 Ford F150 with a 2.7L and I get more car like miles low 20's city, and the best I've gotten highway is 34 mpg. Trucks have the aerodynamics of a brick, so it's expected that we won't get very good fuel economy. If you bought a new truck for mileage alone, then you're going to be disappointed. None of the gasoline Toyota trucks get decent fuel mileage. Doesn't matter if they are new or older. Mileage only varies within 5 mpg for the past 20 years. I dig the look and feel of the new '22. I'm going to wait a few years to see how the truck and tech develop before pulling the trigger. Enjoy your new truck!

My first Toyota pickup was a Hilux 4WD that I bought in 1979. It got about 18 mpg with its 4-speed transmission. For the past 40 years the horsepower has increased substantially but fuel economy has not improved at all. Of course driving a truck at 80 mph is not a smart thing to do if fuel economy is at all important.

At 80 mph the air drag is 4 times as great as at 40 mph and it is overcoming air drag that is requiring the most horsepower and fuel. The 1975 Citroën DS full size sedan was so aerodynamic that it needed only 15 horsepower to cruise at 70 mph, or about 20% of what the American sedans needed from that time.

With my diesel 1-ton pickup I got 18-20 mpg but with a slide-in camper in the bed that created a great deal of added air drag I got 13-14 mpg and if I had a 10 mph headwind the best I could get was 11 mpg. With a 15-20 mph headwind the truck at 55 mph would have fuel economy of 9 mpg. A lead foot is very expensive.

I consider how far my trip is in miles and what any gain will be in reducing travel time at 75 versus 65 miles per hour. For a trip of 20 miles the time savings at 75 mph as compared to driving at 65 mph is 2.5 minutes. So I have to ask myself if saving 2.5 minutes is worth buring 20% more gas. Even with long trips I have often felt that the time gained by speeding was negated in part by having to pull off the highway to make a fuel stop sooner.

Sitting at around 17 mpg at 1500 miles with mostly hwy driving. Upgraded to Wildpeaks the day after so I cant say what the MPG was with the factory yokohamas.

Does anyone know for certain if the engine will advance the timing and get increased horsepower with 93 in lieu of 87 octane?

The same engine in the LX 600 gets 30 more hp. Is that because it has different timing tables that we do not have in our tundras?

Or, is it because they require premium gas, and if we have the same timing tables and if we put premium in our Tundras do we get that same 30 hp increase?

I'm averaging 21.1 mpg overall after the first 1050 miles or so of driving. Tundra SR5 w/ Sport package and stock setup.

I'm generally easy on the gas pedal, haven't trailered yet, and spend probably 2/3 of my time on county highways (45 & 55 speed limits) and the rest split across town and higher speed highways. Overall very happy on mileage coming from a '21 Sierra 6.2L where my total average was probably more like mid to upper-18 mpg range.

Wednesday I get 285/60/20's installed so we'll see what happens after that.

Tundras love 45 and 55mph zones. I can get 18-19 on those two lane state highways in my 2nd gen.

2600 miles on the truck. Running 275/70/18 KO 2' so a little bigger than stock but not much.
Just pulled my 7000lb camper 50 miles at 60 mph and got 11.3mph.
Just drove 60 miles of highway/city/stoplights mix and averaged 21.1.
Mileage seemed to improve around the 2000-mile mark on the odometer. Overall very happy. These numbers are a little better than my old 2018 Silverado with the 5.3 but the Tundra has way more power and snap. Love the turbo!

Break in recommendation is 200 miles of easy braking, 500 miles before towing, and 1000 miles before hard driving or extended periods at the same speed.

If you idle the truck a lot it will kill your overall mpg as well.

I recently drove mine from Oregon to Indiana to pick up our toy hauler. Driving out the worst mileage I got was 20.1 mpg and that was on secondary roads in the mountains, twisty roads of Oregon. I got as high as 23.4 mpg going from Ontario Oregon to Rock Springs Wy (540 miles) @ 70-75 mph and then 23 mpg from there to Kearney Nebraska (570 miles) It dropped down to 21.5 from there to Indiana when I hit some crappy weather and bumped up the speed out of sheer boredom. I have slightly larger E rated 33" tires. Coming back with the trailer I got as high as 14.2 mpg at 60 mph and as low as 9.5 at 70-75 mph. I'm not that guy will come blowing by anyone in the left lane, I'm usually getting passed, that happens when you go 70-75 mph in an 80 mph zone out west but I'm fine with that. Having the larger fuel tank was a big deal to me, especially when you tow out west where gas stations are fewer and farther between.

I am getting a little better now in the mid 15s. I stopped driving in eco mode and have it in normal. I mostly drive suburb streets around 45 to 55 mph. I have the 6.5' bed.

Im getting between 19 and 20 on my truck on average. Already have 2,000 miles on it in less than a month. If going under 65 on highway it will be better than 20 but once I go over 75 it drops to 18-19.

After picking mine up in Boise on Saturday and driving that stretch of I-84 from Boise to Mountain Home I got 13.7 mpg because I went 80 and had to fight about a 25mph headwind the entire way. Once I got into the mountains north of there it got better. It never fails, if I drove to Boise the wind is howling in my face. When I drive home, the wind reverses and is still howling in my face…

I took a 130 mile round trip driving around speed limit, not in any hurry. When pulled back in driveway at home it said 23.2 mpg.

The Pro tax is real. I’m getting the same in mine. I’m thinking the lift/tires/additional hybrid weight/lack of air dam really bog down our mileage on the highway compared to some of the SR5 (even 4x4) trucks I hear getting 21-23 MPG highway. Doesn’t seem like the Pros will touch those mileage figures.

Yeah I dont think we will see low 20s unless you are going 45-55 on flat roads. This truck weighs more than the F150 powerboost, and the tires alone hurt by a couple mpgs. That's why I am hesitant to upgrade to 285/75 just yet, as doubling the weight of the tire cant help and will put me in mid teens. Truck isnt meant for fuel economy, but Toyota couldve done better IMO.

I thought I was the only one with a perpetual headwind on that stretch of I84 regardless of direction...

Just minor stuff. For example, Undercover bed cover, Tufskinz custom door sill protectors, and TRD air filters.
I just finished a 180 mi trip doing about 2/3 at 75 mph, some at 55, and some really slow (stop and go) heavy traffic. Also made a stop about 75 mi in for food. The truck showed mileage at 20.4 mpg. I now have 900 mi on the truck. I think that’s pretty good for an engine with less than a 1,000 mi on it. In the city, I get 16 mpg +/- 2. You have to be easy on the pedal or you’ll go down quick. The 3:31 gearing is mostly highway, even with a ten speed trans. Definitely had to change my driving habits. But damn it sounds good when you get on it - moves too.

I was getting about 22.5 for the first tank of fuel. Now Im getting 24.0 average over the past 180 miles after filling and resetting it. This was with mixed driving of city, up and down mountains, and flat roads with a payload of about 800 lbs.. not too bad for truck under 1k miles.

The only modification Ive done is put on 275/60/20 Wildpeaks. I have never seen higher than 19mpg and that was with a 80 mile drive with 75mph cruise on. 4x4 SR5 TRD Sport.

I went to one of the Tundra test drive events that Toyota corporate put on earlier this year and the team had been driving the trucks all around the mid-atlantic for the events. One of the guys I was talking to said at first he was only getting 16-18mpg so he reached out to one of the Tundra engineers he knew and he said if you want to see 20+mpg you have to keep it under 70mph. Said he kept it at 65-70mph his next time driving and was able to get 21 mpg in the Pro and another driver was able to get 24mpg in a non hybrid limited over a 100ish mile drive. Seems, like most trucks, having the aero dynamics of a brick do not help with gas mileage over 70mph.

I see 21-22mpg regularly. I’m always over 70 and do not accelerate slow. If you want good milage stop riding your brakes and hold consistent speed.

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
So I’m at 3,400 miles got the Tundra August 11th.
I drive on highways that are rated at 70 mph however I’m usually traveling at 75-77 mph and getting 18.5 mpg which I’m good with. Way better than my 2017 Tundra which was 15.9 mpg. I’m sure if I could stay at 60-65 mph I could swing a better mpg.
This truck is super fun to drive so for now I’m good with 18-19 mpg.

This is the ultimate answer to most mpg complaints. They don't test mpg at 70+ for epa ratings so why expect the truck to match the epa numbers.

I am getting 15.4 L/100km with my truck after 2500 kms of 70% city driving. On the highway, I get between 12 and 14 L/100km, depending on my speed and traffic. Going above 120 KM/H really drives up the fuel consumption.

Drive from Williamsburg Va to the VB oceanfront after filling up(Around 75 miles). Not too bad. Cruise control set between 65/70 the whole way back. I’ve averaged 19-20 with big mix of city and interstate driving between my 3 full ups in the last 3 weeks

Hoping to get my Pro soon. Just waiting for it to clear the latest QC hold. I'm torn between tire sizes and looking to get some input. I'm considering Nitto Recon's in 295/70-18 or 35/12.50-18. The 295's weigh 64lbs and the 35's weigh 70lbs. Is the added width worth adding 6lbs per tire? How bad will this negatively impact my gas mileage? I've read that wheel/tire weight is the biggest impact, so I'm trying to figure out if the wider 35's are worth it. I think they'll look better and that is important too. Let me know what you think
