Anyone else found a wierd thing about your truck that isn't something defective, but just noticable but wierd that it made it through design?

I'll go first. I live in an area that it rains a lot this time of year, and when driving, i noticed the truck spits up on itself. Water shoots off the front of the truck and onto the wipers, which forces me to use them even after a rain. Anyone else seen this?

Thats because the clear coat wax coat is still intact. Once it’s dirty and the wax wears off your truck will stop shedding water onto the windshield. My vehicles do this water phenomenon.

How on Earth do you get your transmission full of water? Your verbiage makes it sound like a regular occurrence for you but that's the strangest thing I've ever heard.

Massive difference between getting water into your transmission and in your diffs. The latter is common if you don't run your breathers up to the top of the firewall in your engine bay or up to your taillight in the rear (that's where mine is). But I don't know of any breathers for the transmission itself or anywhere water could get in to it.

Diffs and transfer case? Yes. Transmission itself? Haven't ever heard of a breather for it.

:eek2: So you actually had water in your transmission fluid? Did you get it flushed? I wouldn't trust a simple drain and fill...that only replaces the few quarts of fluid in the pan, not what's in the torque converter.

Also, this is why I walk every water crossing first. If water is entering your cab, you're not fording a creek; you're flooding your truck. This is the deepest I've been. I have since swapped fluid in all three diffs. No water anywhere. I did run the rear breather up to my taillight. The front diff and TC breathers were already run up the firewall.

If I knew there was water in the transmission, it would be a hard stop for me. Not driving anywhere until it could be totally flushed.

I've only ever had 4Runners with manual transmissions submerged at or above the lower door seal, never had an auto that deep, but I don't imagine these newer vehicles would take kindly to getting submerged to the point of entirely enveloping the transmission to the point that any vents or breathers would become awash.

Eurodriver, have you actually flooded the transmission on a 2022 Tundra? Or are you speaking hypothetically? I'm really curious about his. A quick Google search suggests that the only egress point for most trannies is through the dip stick. I know with both my 03 V8 4R and 04 V8 4R, there's a model year change between the two and the 04 and later 4R's have a sealed tranny without even a dipstick.

I miss the the turn style knob for temp controls… to go from Lo-Hi takes forever if you hold it in or feels like you are trying to send Morris code msg thru the telegraph..

Tundra’s transmission has been sealed for a long time. No dipstick. Just a fill and drain plug that are watertight on the side. I don’t know this for sure about the ‘22, but I imagine it’s the same way as the 2nd gen.
That looks a bit like the mud hole at Turkey Bay OHV. Fun spot.

My 1st Gen Tundra did have a transmission vent, back before sealed transmissions were a thing.

I extended the transmission and diff vents up as high as possible and also the intake tube behind the fender.

Although I absolutely hate mud/water crossings and avoid them as much as possible, in this particular case I didn't have a choice. Definitely had it in the cab, but luckily the floor was LineX'd so just had to pull the plugs and hose it out.

If/when I own a 3rd Gen Tundra, it won't be seeing anything except gravel and pavement :D

It’s weird pushing the back window switch up to make it go down and pulling it down to make it go up….

Ok I got a new quirk. Sunlight glare from the hood. I’ve got a commute in the morning directly into the sun, the angle of the hood puts the sun directly in my eyes, below my visor so I can’t block it that way, I have to lower the seat so that the top of the steering wheel blocks the glare.

This was in my couple day old hybrid Limited TRD OR. Driving up a fairly maintained forest service road to my hunting camp, there's a 180 degree switchback that is very sharp and has a significantly steeper angle in the turn than either before or after. In the couple 4 banger 4R's and Taco's that I've gone up it in, they ended up needing to go into low range for that switch back due to lack of power, but it's never been an issue with anything that's got a good V6 or better. When I made the turn through the switch and started putting my foot deeper into the gas (applying the throttle I was probably used to in my 2020 Tundra), the new engine just would not respond and I almost came to a complete stop, even while continuing to apply more throttle. By the time the engine responded, I was pressed down to the floor mat and that sucker exploded out of the switchback. I've heard about people expressing issue with throttle delay, but I had not experienced it at all up to this point. I have had a bit of turbo lag or waited for downshifts, but you'd still hear that the engine was at least trying. I've never had a couple lack of response from the engine like this time. I pushed the accelerator but the truck just slowed down like nobody was home.

Hopefully it was a one-off event. When I head back up there in a few days I'll see if it does it again.

This one gets me every time.

Also plus one to the water spray thing. I think some people are misunderstanding what OP means. The water isn't sliding from the hood onto the windshield, it is trickling off of the front of the hood, and shooting up over the hood back at the windshield. I have never seen that happen in any other vehicle I have owned, and actually find it kind of amusing.

Another quirk is with drive mode select. If you set the drive mode to normal, eco, or comfort, it will remember what setting you were on after you turn off the engine and turn it back on, but if you use sports, sports+, or custom, it will revert back to normal when you turn the engine off.

Also, the digital dash. While it is neat to have, it is so barely customizable that I wonder why they even bothered. The right side of the screen gives you the option of "Nothing", "Boost gauge with no numbers", or "truck axis", and I think that is about it. I know the hybrids have a battery gauge there too or something, and maybe, there is something exclusively for towing, but otherwise thats about it. The left side of the digital dash is the same configurability as the digital part of the regular dash. Nothing groundbreaking there. I wish they would allow you to throw GPS or media on the right side or something. Other vehicles have figured that out. I do enjoy the little Tundra movies that play when you turn on the truck though.

The digital dash leaves so much to be desired. Ford, RAM, GMC all have added lots of informative windows and customization. The Tundra dash is just cumbersome and as usual, utilitarian without offering any extra insights or customization options. The trip meter being on a physical button is strange, they should be able to reset fuel economy for different trips as well, not just one fuel economy reading IMO.

I have mine set to reset itself after every fill-up. Not exactly trip, but it works well enough. Trip reset may be available too, idk. I stumbled across it deep in the settings menu.

Edit: I had to take a drive and I looked out of curiosity. You can find the setting under the last item in the settings menu on the left (looks like a gauge cluster) > leaf picture > fuel economy > and here you can set the fuel economy to trip average, so it will reset when you reset your trip. I have it set to tank average.

I've never had a vehicle ever do the whole spray thing either, I was wondering what exactly is happening, how is the water sliding off the hood, then spraying back at me, even at low speeds. Really weird.

I am highly anal retentive when it comes to detailing. Every vehicle I’ve ever owned gets at minimum, a spray wax after a wash, weekly. I think it may just be a truck/SUV thing (I could be wrong), but of the last three trucks I have owned, every one does that same thing.

The parking brake. Is it automatic? Do you set it manually but it automatically disengages? Do you pull the switch and hold it until the interlock is activated? Do you just ignore it? I don't get it.

Ignore it. I have never had it be obtrusive even though I do hear it setting and releasing.

The manual describes how to disable the automatic features if you prefer that.

Weird quirk - how about the truck has 10 cameras and a new fancy 14" screen and all the tech and yet I need to ADD a dash cam that only records a front view, and can't be viewed on the screen. Like come on!

    Pathetic, isn't it?
That's Toyota for you........."brand new" truck, but designed 5 years ago.

    PS:
A couple of my guests (myself included) said, after a while in the truck, that the 14" screen is really only beneficial to OLD PPL.
I laugh...and agree with them at the same time.
For what it can actually do, it might as well be hole in the dash for your phone.

Weird. Might’ve been traction control. Even the 2nd gens will dampen throttle when the truck doesn’t have traction. But usually that icon rapidly blinks at you on the dash when that’s the case.

My driveway has a slight incline. If I park front end down, tiny tree droppings will plug the small drain holes in the bed and the front of the bed fills with water during rain. If I park front end up, the indented sections of the hood allow water to pool during rain. Have to get the water out either way because it looks like crap if you just let it evaporate out. Got a bed cover now which helps, but seems designers only factored these trucks being parked on level ground during rain.
