So I got impatient waiting on Softopper and purchased a 2.5 gen version used. It fits perfectly with no issues that I can tell! I drove through a rainstorm and it kept my bed dry.

So what model was that? Are all of the 5.5' bed ones the same model? LIke could I buy one from a ram crew cab short bed? or have to find one from a 2020/21 Tundra?

Edit: I just bit the bullet and bought one for a 2021 Tundra from Softopper. I have a 2 month hunting trip coming up and had to have something. Fingers crossed that it works! Thanks for the input.

I took the Leer logo stickers off the back window myself. Left it in the sun on a hot day, they peeled right off, no mess.

Softopper still hasn't come out with their product for the new 2022 Tundra yet. The engineer is taking his sweet time for sure because he hasn't even started on it. Seems like imma have to pay $3500 for a Leer camper shell instead of a softopper now. Won't be ready in time for my trip coming up in December. I got lift, wheels and tires coming in November. Need this....

Ordered one for the 2021 Tundra last week and it came in today. Fits just fine (there is a little gap at the bottom of the cab side wall that I will have to figure out but no other issues. They currently have Grey in stock for 5.5' beds, and they shipped it to me in 6 days from order. Looks pretty good on mine.

I didn’t put the Velcro on the tailgate so it is loose in the pics. Not sure if I will add or not. Love the way it looks.

I would rather just not deal with a gap and everything be perfect. Now I will try this if it comes down to it if there isn't one coming by the time I leave. Appreciate this.

I’m in a similar situation. I leave 9/12 for a 2 month hunting trip to Montana. Had to have something. Just keep in mind that the people at Softopper have no idea when they will have one for 2022 they are simply making things up depending on who you get. I was told a specific date (8/10) that they would be available for order. Give yourself enough time to have something.

10-4, thank you for peace in mind. Really helps me stop worrying and gets me into gear to figure out what to do. Good luck in your trip in Montana! Kill an Elk for me, or a grizz

Looks like it fits really well. Where is the gap you are referring to? I can't see in the pics. Towards the front of the topper? Against the cab? All the way across the cab or just in the corner? Sorry to be so specific, but I have been talking to softopper for months and have basically decided this is the only solution that works for me, so it's get a 2021 or wait...

Thanks in advance for helping illustrate exactly where and how big the gap we are discussing is.

    Gap.jpg

The gap has proven to be completely insignificant even in high pressure automatic car washes. I'm fine with the fit and wouldn't hesitate at all to buy the '21 model. The people at softopper are totally blowing smoke about when '22 will be available.

    Thanks very much!

I can see now how the camera fin on the back of the cab holds the softopper just a little bit rearward. I suppose in the redesign they will reshape the top bar at the cab side of the topper.

Is your topper in contact with the camera fin, or how much of a gap did you leave between the topper and the cameras?

Finally, you go through a high pressure car wash with the softopper up?!!

Mine has a gap of probably 1/16" (very very small) between topper and the rear tail light fin thing. And, yeah, I take it through car wash up. I had a soft top jeep for years and this feels much the same to me, so no problems thus far. I have a decked box inside so a tiny bit of water inside doesn't hurt anything for me.

I can't speak to the softtopper fit on the '22, yet, but when the truck is delivered, it will be the 5th Tundra I've had under that same top... I couldn't even tell you what year I bought it, but I've never had any other type top last as long. What sold me was the multiple configurations: 1. All up and enclosed (typical topper) 2. Sides up (nearly year-round for hauling the dogs (drop sides when rain/cold 3. folded forward (convertible-ish) to haul large/tall loads (unhooking the two rear straps) 4. Completely removed (remove two pins). And, I have never had it leak when closed...

My two cents: If you want that type versatility, then wait on the new design.

EDIT: Judging by the pictures above, I won't bother on a '22 version as the old appears to fit just fine...

Got the call today, my Leer XR showed up at the shop today. I ordered it on 7/26 so far end of the 4 - 6 week lead time she gave me, but 6 weeks is better than 8 or 12! I will head over next week and have it installed. Pics to come...

I ordered my first one in February. They originally told me they’d start building in April. In June, they told me ARE scrapped the original design & started over. I’ll post an update as soon as I hear anything.

This looks great! I've been holding out for ARE but might need to just order one of these, esp. if it really takes 4-6 weeks. Winter is coming!
Do you mind if I ask what this canopy setup ran you, including the rack setup which I am assuming you ordered with the canopy?
Also, I apologize if you've already answered this elsewhere but what lift and offset are you running?
    Thanks!

couldn’t tell ya pricing, did some trading for the topper, but I believe it was close to $4.5k loaded out. The cross bars I had from my last Tundra- Thule aero bars

lift is adventure motor sports full lift kit and wheels are 17x9 12mm offset Blackhorn off-road with 35x12.5 Toyo at3’s

I love this top. I've never used the tailgate Velcro and still never had a leaking or flapping problem. We usually keep the back and sides rolled up since we're hauling German Shepherds... Very easy to drop the sides and button-up if weather dictates... Thanks for the pics, because my top not fitting was a deal-breaker...

Also have a 2.5 gen Softopper on my 2022. Works great! You can mess around with things and reduce the gap on the cab side corners. I get near no water in the bed in rain.

    Thanks!
Do you have any full side view shots of the truck with the canopy on it?
I'm still wanting an ARE Z2 but they aren't available. My Leer dealer here says it's 10-14 weeks for a 100XR with all the features but at least I can get it ordered and hope to have it before it gets too snowy in December. I really like they way yours looks in the photos you've posted but would like to see a full side view to see how the geometry truly looks. Thanks!

I noticed tonight that the ARE Z2 is now showing up in the "build a cap" section of ARE's website for the 2022 Tundras. Shows the Z2, V, and a couple commercial options. That seems like a recent change!

Rig looks amazing! If you don’t mind me asking, how was the install for the shell? Pretty much a direct fit or did you have to tweak it a little?
