I had oil changed at 5000 miles on my ‘21 Tundra SR5 a while back and the guy insisted that I use synthetic oil rather than conventional oil. He said all newer Tundras are running synthetic. Any truth to this?

Can't get the 0 in 0W with conventional oil.

I think. Nobody correct me if I'm wrong.

All new Tundras have synthetic oil and have had for years now.

whom ever did your oil change must have been a new guy or not at a Toyota dealership??

I didn't even know they still made conventional oil. I don't think I would use it, thinking of Royal Purple. Used in my Supercharged car that lowered my oil temps.

Run what you want. Change it often. The key here is maintenance. If a mechanical part is going to fail, it will fail and no matter what oil you use will prevent that.

    This.

and drain/fill your damn Trans oil every 30k. it's easy. use valvoline maxlife ...it's cheap & good & at walmart

has someone released the data on engine failures related to oil choice?

has there ever been an engine oil related failure in an engine that had the proper level of oil?

I don’t think there has been. At least I haven’t heard of one. 1 of the million mile tundras used dealer oil, which I am sure is just as good as the next oil but no one goes and really buys dealer oil.

I do buy dealer trans oil. I have this feeling that the trans will fail with the MaxLife stuff. Which I know is t true since plenty of people run MaxLife.

Did you read your owners manual?

Spend the extra $5 and get the synthetic.

For 0W20 synthetic is the only option. For any other grade, you should use synthetic. In a pinch conventional or a synthetic blend would be fine if it meets the API specs and is used for a shorter interval.

Since this is not posted enough on here. This is straight from the Toyota Service Manual (TIS), applies to all years of the 3UR-FE from 2007-2021. And before anyone asks, Toyota is not changing the specs/design for the engines sent to Mexico. They are exactly the same.

I stopped using oil ages ago. I put used cat urine in mine. The ammonia in the urine is a great solvent for 5.7L Toyota engines.

I am sitting at my Toyota dealer right now. Getting the metal filter cap and Fumoto valve installed. When I requested 5W-30, was told they don't even have that weight oil in the service shop anymore...

Signature air. Nice! Mine has filtered Dallas city air. Never can get the tires to balance with it so I switched to imported air.
