I have a 22 tundra sr5 sport. No battery light on dash was on we came to a stop light and a small display in the center came on battery charging we continued home no other lights on dash. Every time we stopped the message battery charging would go on and and it would go away when continue driving. Any one have this happen or have info on this. The message would stay off when we took the start stop off it never popped up but when we put it back on it came back on.

Prevents auto start/stop from engaging. I get it all the time. Had stealership look at it but electrical system all normal.
Chaulk it up to poor toyota engineering.

If the 12V battery charge is too low, stop/start won’t activate and it gives this message. It also gives a message if you stop and brake pressure is too light. It will say something like press brake harder. It will also give a message if HVAC is on and cooling/heating the cabin.

Noticed this for the first time last week. Now it seems to have replaced the "press harder to activate the engine shut off" feature. For the hell of it, I've pressed on the brake hard on purpose now and it will no longer shut off. Never liked that feature anyways but am thinking something is now technically wrong with the truck.

That still should be a warranty covered, but sounds like contacting different dealer would be a better option. It's not your problem that they need to do diagnostics on a new truck

    Stock....for now

If you go to the Auto Start/Stop portion of the manual, it will show all the reasons that the system wont work and I believe gives you and example of the different messages.

Ya, it's just letting you know why it's not auto shutting off. I seen that and wondered as well.

I've had this same issue twice and both times at the same Stop light. This is after driving for 3 hours from Bishop, CA to Kramer Junction. In both cases I did not have Auto Start/Stop engaged. Why would the 12V battery be low after driving for a 3 hour plus period of time? The alternator should be doing all the work and the 12V should only being used to start engine and run some computers/aux systems while shut off.

I wonder if the truck won't activate the start/stop feature at a light if you've got lights, radio, AC and any other things going on. Measures current draw maybe and then prevents this. I've seen it once.

As far as the "battery charging" message coming up every time the Stop/Start is supposed to engage, its a specific lockout.

It can be any of the below conditions:

    Most likely reason:

    During refresh charge
    • Cable reconnected to battery terminal

    • Refresh charge is performed for 30 minutes or more for every 30 hours of driving
    Less likely reasons:

Engine started with the engine hood open then closed it and drove off.

Voltage Below 7.74 V when starter begins operation and below 7.6 V when cranking using the specified battery
Voltage Below 8.92 V when starter begins operation and below 8.92 V when cranking when using non specified battery

(note this will lock out stop start for the duration of the drive, the cranking voltage will not be evaluated until the net restart)

Battery fluid temperature -15°C (5°F) or less, or 75°C (167°F) or higher

Battery integrated current value meets one of the following conditions:

-19123 A-sec or less: "Status of Battery Charge Control" is Charge Control Coordination Mode, Stop and Start Standalone Mode, Low Temperature Mode or Temperature High/Low Mode
-1152 A-sec or less: "Status of Battery Charge Control" is Stop and Start Restriction Mode

Its impossible to troubleshoot the system without a scan tool. Its normal for this to happen every now and then.

My dealership said this is normal. If you have the heating or air conditioning on or high use of electronics. I am not sure it should be normal WTF.
