The 3.0 Duramax is really an awesome engine. That and since diesel is the same price as mid grade gas here, the economics are extremely good for me

And with NHT it gets 3.73s along with a 10 speed so putting 35s or 37s on there would be pretty plug and play

Just texted my buddy, he’s a salesman at gmc dealer here, asking availability and the exact payload and towing capacity of this! Apparently there is only 1 allocated for Atlantic Canada at this time without a delivery date. Unsold at this time.. Asked me how I found out about this in max trailering package as it’s not advertised or available on the Canadian website..

    Thanks Mass-Hole!!

I love it. Torsen and Hi-Lock T-case from the Raptor, plus more payload and towing. I think the 402A interior is one of the nicest Ford has done.

    That's interesting.
I am driving 2020 Tacoma now and waiting for a Tundra. Put a deposit down beginning of May with promised delivery in October / November. As of right now it's rather January / February.
Was seriously considering getting a 2022 AT4 with that diesel engine, pretty much was going to pick it up next day but backed down very last minute. Wasn't really convinced diesel (never owned one) would serve me well in Calgary winter with my short 15-20 minutes drives between jobsites. And I am not sure reliability is there.

Everything I've been told would say you shouldn't use diesels for short commutes or light duty type of work. You want to let them get up to temperature and work them hard. Otherwise, your emissions stuff will be in regen all the time. (Though I think in Alberta we can get away with deleting that stuff.)

I got 35 min highway drive each way to work plus pulling my dump trailer. I think I can work it enough to not cause regen all the time

I will say from experience with the 6.7 Powerstroke, the active regen cycles can take anywhere from 15-20 minutes after the truck has warmed up. Then it takes another 5-10 minutes of driving to finish cleaning out the particulates. This happened weekly and always conveniently about halfway into my 30 mile commute. So I would have to drive around another 10-15 minutes before getting to work. Probably the most annoying thing about daily driving a newer diesel.

Correct. I prefer the analog gauges and the increased console space that the column shifter provides. The 8" infotainment is plenty big enough for me. Only other changes would be the refresh moved the fog lights lower in front and changed the location of the block heater connection.

So you've had both the 22 F-150 and 22 Tundra? What are your likes and dislikes for each truck? How do they compare?

For reference, I owned a '22 Platinum Powerboost F-150, and still own a '21 F-150 Raptor with the 37" PP.

The F-150 is a far more refined truck, there are many complaints on this forum of the transmission problems plaguing the F-150 with the 10R80, yet after owning now 5 F-150's (a me problem, not a Ford problem) in the last 4 years all with 10R80 transmission I have yet to have a single problem. The power delivery is very smooth and consistent. The interior is absolutely top notch, the infotainment system is smooth to operate, but I disliked the split screen display when in Apple Carplay. Having the 7.2kW onboard generator was excellent for running auxiliary air compressors, welders, etc. The hybrid system is night and day ahead of the Toyota. I was able to do entire 5-10 mile trips on electric only with the Powerboost. With the I-force Max, it seems to run in parallel to the engine itself to boost power rather than defer to increasing fuel economy. Ultimately, there was nothing wrong with the F-150 and I regret getting rid of it at this point.

The Tundra Capstone is a big step forward for Toyota in terms of having a $76,000 flagship truck competing against other trucks similarly priced finally. But it falls short. The leather is very nice in the capstone, but there's hardly any (if any) other features that separate it from the Platinum or 1794, yet the price tag is quite a bit higher. Not being able to get the TRD offroad package is a big miss for the locking diff/bash plates. The Tundra feels much more like a truck than the F-150 which is a bonus for Toyota. I much prefer the styling of the Tundra as well. The interior besides the leather and center screen is very underwhelming. Lots of plastic and cheap wood finish that doesn't feel refined at all. Tons of squeaks and rattles from the Toyota, while the Ford was silent. The Tundra transmission is smoother than the Ford no doubt, but the power delivery is underwhelming, it doesn't put you back in your seat like the Powerboost or Raptor. I really enjoy the HUD on the Tundra, it was big in pushing me to get the truck. Another shortfall for Toyota is their app v Fordpass. Fordpass is extremely easy to use and problem free, while having to pay a subscription after a period of time for the Toyota app is laughable after paying $76K for features in a truck. Remote start sucks, the bed lighting sucks, and the drivers control center/information display sucks too.

Overall, if I had not experienced so many other luxury trucks and cars the Tundra may feel like it's a great entry into the luxury truck market. But having owned so many high end vehicles, it leaves a lot to be desired compared to it competitors. The "reliability" is TBD, since this a complete revamp. Toyota has a great reputation for reliaibility, but that has to be earned with every model, not lived off forever. I plan on getting rid of the Tundra this weekend, but have no idea what will replace it.

Its not that it will go into regen, its that the regen needs to have enough heat and time to fully complete.

I havent had a problem with the 10 speed in any I have driven and, after spending far too much time on the F150 forums, there are way more people B&Cing about Ford transmission problems here than there . I dont think they are perfect but I also think that is true of most transmission tuning. They can't make everyone happy.

My Lexus trans tuning completely sucks though. It slips, and bangs into gear some times, and the shift schedule and torque converter unlocking schedule is terrible.

Its funny, you read to comments here and wonder how Ford owners get to work everyday and yet they keep selling 500,000+ F150's a year along with GM and Ram.

It really is funny. Here on the Tundra forums the F-150 is the most problematic vehicle every. And on the Ford forums the Tundra is the worst truck ever made.

I don't care which is better, as a consumer I just want to be objective about which is best for me.

Not an F-150, still have the Raptor and a '22 Lariat ultimate powerboost for an employee I borrow. Scared of GM and RAM electronics, but may give them a go.

How many trucks do you need?

I've always thought based on my research that Ford's electronics were slightly worse than GM's.

Raptor is weekend hunting/fishing remote work site truck. Tundra is corporate calls and long drives on the highway with street tires. Only take the other work trucks off the lot when I'm bored. Really just need two trucks, next one needs to be fuel efficient highway cruiser that can at least handle 30 mile stretches of washboard roads if needed.

Ford's may be worse, I've just never had a good experience with a GM, and lots of positive with Ford. I know it takes owning one lemon for someone's perception of a brand to be ruined for life

Not going to lie. I'm very tempted to email granger and get a black appearance package platinum powerboost ordered in avalanche. Call me a glutton for punishment on potential relability issues but damn I saw that package yesterday in person on oxford white and I was moist. The oxford tremor is nice af too.

In my experience, this is more of a self-own than anything. My friends and family keep going back to Ford because they expect to have a regular relationship with their dealer’s service center. They expect the issues. “All truck have problems,” they say. When you expect it, it’s not a problem. See how that works? “Of course it’s reliable; I got 100k miles out of it.” They go back to the dealer all the time. “All trucks are like this, lol. But I stick with Ford because they sell so many trucks. Gotta be doing something right to sell so many trucks, derrrrrrrp.”

Don’t judge something by how many units have been sold. Judge it by what they’re worth when the warranty is up.

We’re at a point in history when people trade in their vehicles just like they do with their phones. More power to them, I guess. But they’ve been carefully conditioned into this by manufacturers. The whole thing has grown wildly out of proportion in my opinion. People taking out 84-month loans for transportation. And they’ll replace the tires, wheels, and suspension, add tint, ceramic, and a bed cover—investing 10-15% of the truck’s purchase price when the bank owns it—to get the right “look” while making minimum payments. Hilarious. And it seems like Toyota is playing the same game now. Look at all these sweet, enticing features! Trade in your truck. We can make your monthly payment stay the same (we’re tacking 7 years worth of payments onto your life, but who’s counting lol). Or if you write a check, we’re reducing your disposable (read: investable) income by $70k on the spot. What’s $70k compounded over 25 years? :monocle:Lol.

People in this thread are actually personally offended that a new truck has something in it that isn’t brand new. It’s like they’re shopping for newness and to be among the first seen riding around in a new truck rather than shopping for the truck itself.
I had a 4Runner with a 5speed that started doing the rumble strip thing going into 5th gear. A full, proper flush by a competent shop (NOT THE DEALER) solves it. I have a buddy with 240k on an FJ cruiser who has had the same torque converter chatter for the last 80k miles. Keep telling him to go get it flushed, but he doesn’t want to touch it.
