I installed a center console safe today.

I put in an aftermarket center console safe today. It is decent quality and the lock could probably be defeated fairly easily, but no security is 100% and time is the only thing preventing it. I am planning to use it to keep my pistol in it when I am forced to leave it behind. It will also be nice to leave my wallet in when I go hiking.

My buddy had that same safe awhile back. Made the mistake of telling people in his neighborhood and not long after install his truck was broken into and they popped the safe open, took his firearm. He ended up buying one that was a bit more expensive and did not tell the neighbors second time around.

Yeah, I do not leave my gun in my truck overnight even with the safe. I used to laugh at the people who would post on social media about going on vacation and posting pics of all their toys.

I previously had one of the small box safes that was cable locked to my seat frame. I think this console safe is more secure than that.

Does it rattle around at all or is it pretty solid? I’m leery of install and listening to it on dirt roads.

I expected it to rattle more than it did. I say did because the lid was what rattled so I put a strip of adhesive insulating window foam under the front lip of the lid and problem solved. The lid goes down tight now and I have to slightly hold it down to lock it. The rest of the safe fits down tight into the opening and I thought the bolts were too short at first. It comes with a couple rubber pads for the bottom but they are thin. Stuff inside can rattle against the sides so I put some liner material in there too. The top tray is also plastic so I lined that also. I am OCD about rattles as they drive me NUTS!
