We spent the night at a fairly nice motel, parked under the lights next to the door, and the alarm went off at 5:30 this morning. By the time I made it to the window, they (both thieves and cats) were gone. Does anyone know what the lead time is for cats these days?

Tundras like stock cats, people have had issues with aftermarket throwing errors. 2.5 gen guys have waited 6-8 months for replacement. It is a crap shoot these days with replacement parts, hopefully you can find some without such a long wait.

Curious if you had any kind of shields/plates installed, or were the cats left out in the open as they are from factory? Also curious which town/city you were in.

Sorry to hear about your luck. If it were me, assuming a ridiculous wait time for factory cats, I'd see if I could submit the claim for insurance/factory cat replacements, and during the wait pay out of pocket for aftermarket to keep it on the road (would consider putting pipes in without cats if I had time before the next inspection) . When factory cats come in, have them installed by insurance. Not ideal, but keeps your truck on the road if there is a long wait time for parts.

On edit - then you could sell/pass along your interim parts (pipes or aftermarket cats) to another Tundra owner who was hit and waiting on parts.

No shields, I'm digging through the posts on who bought what kind to see what to buy. Right now I'm leaning towards TPFi. This was in Corsicana Texas, we were in a hotel just off of the highway. The police said that it was probably a group that started in Houston and followed the highway north to Dallas. They'd stop at each town, hit hotels with easy access back to the highway, grab cats from easy targets, and be at a recycler in Dallas by morning.

Sleeping in rest areas and parking lots, ive never had cats stolen, but i have had police check on me. Societies punishment for raising cat theives should be a wave of loud trucks.

Whats acceptable when you catch em? I mean, i'll catch hell, but in the average state whats acceptable? Fists? Zipties? Knives? Rocksalt?...

I'm thinking some rarely visited land and a backhoe since they probably wouldn't be missed, but that's just me.

For those interested, I ordered the "Ultimate Package" shields from Cat Security today. They'll be in long before the replacement cats are available. The estimate stands at a skosh under $5,000 for the repairs. They wouldn't even speculate on the possibility of giving me an estimate on when the parts would be available. Here are the pictures from the repair shop.

Man that sucks. I've been hearing several months on the replacements as well. When I got my shield installed the dealer had dozens of Tundras and Sequoias waiting on new cats. Easily several months lead time.

Am I seeing correctly, that they only got one side completely removed before you ran them off?

Gotta admit, them are some nice, clean cuts. I couldn't do that neat of a job if I was taking my time and trying.

But yeah, backhoe and hard to find land. Or give 'em the Amos Moses treatment and use 'em for alligator bait.

One side was completely gone, the other set off the alarm before the second cut. It still has to be replaced because of the location of the cut.

Cat protection plates in society today is just a must have!!!!! and it’s a damn shame!!! The loss of hands or a max amount of jail is the only thing that will deter these morons!!!!!!

At least they were smart enough to cut it before the hanger.

They left my driver's side hanging because my alarm was going off..
They tried to cut the mount instead of just cutting the rubber..

    Did they get your muffler?
    With a $5k estimate, I'm thinking they didn't..
Mine was $6k from the dealership, including an new stock muffler..

I’m a fishing string and hot wax kind of guy. Slice’em up and then stop the bleeding with hot wax so you can do it again and again. Could you imagine what it would feel like to get Joker faced with fishing string?

    8 months and 5 days.
Fortunately, Toyota covered 7 months of the dealership's rental/loaner and my insurance covered 1 month.

Damn that blows! My buddies cats were stolen a few weeks ago and the dealer said they have no lead times on his 2.5 gen tundra.

sucks cause we have some fall trips planned and now he’s out of them.

I'm told Toyota creates cats to last a reallly reallly long time. So they don't keep a large supply of them...

and yes we have a problem with the 'judicial system'.

It couldn’t get welded back in? With an experienced welder you shouldn’t have any leak issues. If you were in Louisiana, I’d do it for ya

also ditto on the Tundras having aftermarket cat issues; a guy with a second Gen (same scenario) put after market ones on and kept throwing a check engine light

It's an EPA thing. Weld in a straight pipe and keep on. Pity the fool that thinks stealing this is the thing to do.

What he said. They stole one side on my truck and I just took out the other side and had straight pipe welded in. A tweak on the HP Tuner file and no codes. Of course I live in a state that does not require inspections.
