Agreed. I blame the people. Look at "reality tv" over the last two decades. Dumbest shit ever. Ratings keep the crap rolling.

If you are willing to pay for aftermarket parts, custom paint, but cheap out or just fail to change balljoints, there ya go. I wish that everytime somebody posted one of these pics, they would also state the manufacturer and mileage of the ball joints. Also understand why they don't tho.

 

Yes @Jack McCarthy . I actually retired in 2007. good timing as the great recession hit. But I have a 2 year attention span & all my friends were still working. Went back to work p/t 2 years later, then added another p/t gig. Both turned into working 50-70 hour weeks. Then I added a weekend gig. I just retired from one of the p/t gigs a couple months ago, let the 3rd job go a year ago. now I work 1 job M-F, 9-5, first time in my adult life. LOL, I had to go back to work to learn to ease back. I'm really torn. 62 is my current siren song, but if you work 3 more years @65 insurance kicks in. If you work to 65 - 2.5 more years for full benefits. 67.5 is only 2.5 years from bonus level social security. Each dang marker is so close to the next bonus. I don't know if I can resist the next carrots, I'm likely too dang Yankee Cheap to leave benefits on the table. (But I did turn on the heat before Thanksgiving last year!)

 

Plus I think most don’t even know what’s wrong. They probably just tell their buddies that their wheel broke

 

@NUDRAT I hope the work your doing is at the very least something you enjoy doing in your early retirement otherwise your really not retired.

 

Well that's just ignorance. Good point tho. There are alot of people (not people like us) that will just buy vehicles and drive em til the wheels fall off (literally) without ever even checking their oil level. Ever. I've seen it

 

What's crazy to me is that it keeps happening to people in that group. Anyone that pays attention to that Facebook page knows that the shitty ball joints break often, yet they do nothing to prevent it.

 

Ever meet anyone that doesn’t know you need to change your oil regularly? I’ve met a few in my lifetime. Hilarious.

 

First job at 16 in high school bagging groceries, lady I work with had a Mazda B2200 extended cab lowered truck. I though it was really cool. Till she started it up. It smoked like the mosquito truck. Like thick clouds. I asked her about it and she was clueless. A few more questions revealed the truck had 82,000 miles on it, she had bought it new and never changed the oil. She only added it when it needed it. Face freaking palm.

 

That’s impressive! I once did 38k+ miles for 2 years on a rental escort wagon I drove for $200/mo. (special deal since my father worked at a Ford dealership). Tires were practically bald when I turned it into them and no oil change.

 

Those are the fools that make "Large Car" shops big $$$$$$$$$ Sadly, checking your oil is REQUIRED for your pre-trip and I've seen $40,000 overhauls have warranty refused because of this STUPIDITY...

Not sure what the longevity is in your family? If you do the math, breakeven is over 80 years old before you even get back the money you missed by waiting. For most men, it doesn't make sense to wait to take SS.

I don't know - my parent's generation are mostly all still going in their 90's. We did lose two at 85, but all the rest - pure Timex.

 

My OCI for The old corolla was 25k. 800k miles later… it was still fine. Granted that car was literally all highway.

 

The Gauley was absolutely amazing. If you get the chance you should do it. It’s an absolutely beautiful beast. I’ve a got a ton of pictures, and some videos from the bigger stuff. We ran a marathon trip of 26 miles, nearly 200 rapids. I’ll create a separate thread with those once I get everything downloaded from the go pro but for now enjoy a couple carnage shots from pillow rock

We had the money line coming in, I mean it was text book glory line. Instead of running up on the rock, the boat dipped and dropped the front right side. In the water I went. Class 5 swim, and it was epic

I’d love to squeeze another run in before the seasons out. A double upper Gauley trip would be money. The lower was fun and had a lot of good hits but it’s a slower pace run

 

Are those runs easily accessible? I know Grand Canyon trips are years out in advance
