Crackhead resurrection

I've seen similar w/vintage audio and bikes over the years. Sometimes it's that the item is gone already and they don't understand how to remove it, but on other forums I'm on, I've seen a fair share of three types of trolls: Someone looking to harvest data (name/email/phone), or someone who gets off on wasting your time by sending you to a bogus address/ghosting, or someone who gets off on the quantity of people emailing them, frustrated about no reply. Thankfully, for the harvesters, CL only shares your name, and if you use their (default) email repeater, it obscures your email address, but any phone you give etc. is fair game.

The world is full of trolls.

It may or may not have been that. Thing is, some people won't even respond if you don't give a local#, so ... you win some, you lose some. I keep a Google Voice number so I can use that for all CL/FBM/OfferUp/NextDoor/etc purchases.

 

Yeah but if you get a callback, while away from your computer, will it forward to your cell phone?

 

Yes. You set it up to forward to at least one number. You can also install the app on your phone (for making calls out with that number, or send/rcv text with that number)

Some things may've changed with their recent overhaul, Google is always changing stuff but ... yeah, it still forwards calls from whatever number you pick with them, to whatever single number you give.

I initially did it 15ish years ago when the service launched publicly because I'd been in Atlanta for 7-8 years at that point and not having a local (404) number was killing me in dealing with the city, I had a FL cell and no land line. Back then, gov't offices calling out-of-state numbers from their land line was problematic. I've since registered that gVoice number to all "spammy" sources, sales stuff, anything that could be considered a 'public record' (fishing/hunting licenses, voting registration, taxes, etc.) and it's cut down spam significantly, Google does a great job of filtering spam calls while allowing "official" calls in.

If you have a GMail account already, it's as easy as going to https://voice.google.com to get setup, I think? I can't recommend enough that you pair it with your current account, AND make sure you install the smartphone app if possible. And just know, Google has a reputation of pulling the rug out from under users on free services, but ...

We rolled the awning out for the first time yesterday to let it dry. Was wet...



Looks to be in great shape. There is one 5 inch tear along the roof seam at the rear of the camper. Needs to be cleaned as it's dirty, but not moldy or mildewy.
The feet come off the camper to set it up straight. We didn't do that part because we were just trying to dry it, and get eyes on it.

Got an 8 pack of Dicor lap sealant on the way, and the cheaper version of eternabond. Been Youtubing it up.

Gmail is my main account for email, icloud is my secondary. never thought I'd need two phone numbers....

 

Unfortunately, still no response. I'll be keeping a close eye on emails and bank account activity tho now. Who knows, maybe the dudes just slow or really old and hasn't figured out emails yet, waiting for his caretaker to return. I don’t know, that's all i got for ya

 

The awning will always be wet. Every time you roll it out. Some strange phenomenon that is not fully understood within this universe. It doesn't even have to rain. Still wet.

 

lube up those pivot points on the awning. They'll freeze up on you with disuse.

Aliexpress has some pretty nice 12v RV interior (& exterior) lights.
You might paint under your current lights so you could replace them with LED units later.
We know you like lighting upgrades.

 

So... got the roof cleaned yesterday...




New lap sealant on today on everything. Front, and back seams. Got new pipe vents on with lap sealant. You can see a new one in the back before I screwed it in. Replaced both.

No pics of the lap sealant yet. I was going to remove the Antenna, but decided to keep it to eliminate leaks/hassle. The aluminum roof sheet is in great shape. @FrenchToasty will be pleased to hear that I cleaned out the AC coils, and the years of leaves, walnut hulls, and everything else that was in there.

No clue how to get the old eternabond tape off the roof by the refrigerator vent. Only thing I can think of is heat, and wipe. Any suggestions?

 

Your got your fingers all over her, nice and deep, looks good from my house; but I’m sure you got anything obvious up there. I don’t know why, but I worry your analog cable going in could be another penetrating point for water? I’m just looking for other hazard points since you seemed to have covered the rest

Oh the cable itself? The rubber seal thing was loose so I squirted some lap sealant in there, and then smooshed the rubber cap back on it. We have no plans to use the antenna. The square shaft that goes into the camper has been rounded off from years of people raising it, and lowering it with pliers.

We'll be streaming things off my Hotspot or campground wifi on whatever console I decide to take.

The plan is to do at least two coats of the rubber roof seal. Pops bought a 5 gallon bucket about two years ago for his camper that's falling apart. He used half of it for the 32 footer. He's letting me have it since his is a lost cause.

I doubt that the aluminum would leak, but the seam where the aluminum meets the sides of the camper might leak. I'll go through that if I have enough caulk left over.

Dude, I think you're doing a great job and to greater extent than most would. 2 coats of rubber roof over all that you've done.... you'll be fine for a long time. Good job bud. Might need a name change on the thread tho soon.... 'Crackie and tail - on the road again'

Thanks! It's been a team effort between the girlfriend, and I. She's handled the interior, and I've handled the exterior.

A name change might be in order. Any suggestions?

All the girlfriends touch. Including drilling out the new holes for the new brass handles.

We tag teamed soldering in the new interior lights to get rid of the old, power hungry 1157, yellowed fixtures.







No pics of them on yet because they aren't mounted fully yet. Just soldered up, with marine heat shrink on the connections. They all work as proper. One screw hanging them all up right now. Need to be painting around the new lights as they are smaller than the old lights.

Planning on marble counter top covers soon once everything else is wrapped up inside.

 

My GF sent me some update pics. She got the paint around the lights done, the lights mounted, and is sticking the marble counter top covers on.

 

I'm about to do all of this, and I'm trying to get clear info on the dielectric grease: could you elaborate on the "schmoozed" part of your process? Do I just put a dollop of grease in the boot to, ah, lube things up as it goes on? Is there such a thing as too much? Etc.

As I have checked boots and plugs in the past, I don't think I noticed any grease - or residue of grease - in my existing setup, so I'm curious, want to make sure I do it right.

 

It's mainly to keep moisture off the tip(lol), so just enough to cover it should work.

 

Just a little bloop is enough. It's useful to give a little bit of corrosion protection and keep the boots from sticking.
