It is far far quieter, no comparison in sound levels with 7.2 kW generator at idle. Not really even noticeable.

Again, I think the on board generators are cool, but they eliminate the primary purpose of the truck, to travel from point A to Z. You can't drive them and power your home or camper etc. at the same time.

I dont often drive around when my house is without power for extended periods. Usually that means no one else has power either. And if you are camping without hookups, then are you often just chilling in the camper running a bunch of 120V appliances? If you are then buy an inverter and run it. Recharge the batteries with the truck once a day.

It’s not a blanket assertion with nothing to back it up. It has been true for a very long time. They have a particular method to their manufacturing process that you can read all about if you want. Their manufacturing efficiency and the dependability of their vehicles over the long term is a case study for university students studying manufacturing all over the world.

The new Tundra is going to be just fine, even if there are hiccups in the beginning. Toyota is known for building extremely long lasting vehicles, ironing issues out very quickly (supply chain issues notwithstanding), and issuing sweeping recalls for issues that affect a small handful of vehicles.

Don’t get me wrong; if they have all of a sudden crapped the bed, I’m out. But I think Toyota’s history and reputation qualify the statement that the 3rd gen is going to be a solid, reliable platform.

I used my 2KW on my Tremor last week to run a heat gun to fix some wiring on the boat trailer. Was much faster than dragging 100’ of drop cord.

yeah so far main use for me is certain things that used to need a power cord run from an outlet not conveniently located now get plugged into the truck if it’s closer to where I need to work. A contractor rebuilding our deck earlier this year needed to shut off its outlet briefly to move it and asked me where else close by he could draw power for a few minutes. I kept telling him he could use my truck and trying to explain. He’d go “No, I have the little 120v bed outlet in my F250 to recharge stuff too. That’s not enough.” I gave up and let him figure it out.

All I can tell you is that Ive owned a 17 and 19 Tundra. Lots of threads on my previous builds. Then I got a 2021 F150 Powerboost-- no complaints. I just picked up a 22 Raptor and that thing is an electrical nightmare. Straight up disaster, and already thinking of selling it, albeit for a nice premium since I got it for 2k under MSRP... but going back to a 22/23 Tundra limited because I'm over the headaches and starting to realize less is more.

Your Powerboost was buggy, too...you had various complaints in this thread when you first got it. Did they get it fixed up for you after that? Some people following this thread might like to see how that worked out.
Facts, though I bet that Raptor was fun when it worked.

What a useless post. Please refer to thread title. I've had an older model Tundra, Tacoma, and 4 different 4Runners, I well know how reliable past models are. We are discussing the 2022+ Tundra as compared to the 14th Gen F-150. And you are posting historical data from years back?

Yea the powerboost was buggy at first but then sorted itself out. This Raptor has been all over the place. The electrical issues, flickering headlights, exhaust rattling that is a known ford raptor issue, AC going full blast randomly, and clunking transmission.

Of course it's useful. Most people take into consideration the decades-long track records of automakers before dropping $50-70k on a new truck.

You should make a bit of money on it at least.

I know probably 8 people who have (or just got rid of) 2019+ F150s, F350s, and Expeditions with the 10-speed. Those transmissions are all clunky to varying degrees. Every time I starting thinking that an F250 with the 7.3 gasser and Tremor package would solve me being at or slightly over payload in the Tundra, this makes me back away from the ledge.

Did your Raptor sit on the Ford Mountain of Lost Trucks for an undetermined amount of time? You probably have nests in there.

Right now it’s the pro. I love it, wife loves it. Loved it even more after the IIHS designation.

my original plan was to keep the pro, trade for 23 crv or pilot (new design) then trade that for raptor. Still might do that or might just hold the pro until the raptor is done.

but the lightning for sure going

I'm worried about the complexity of these new generation drivetrains chasing increasing EPA MPG and emissions standards. All mfg's are doing tricks that increase complexity, possibly reduce longevity. Yota is the same, new everything, unknown longevity. I'll wait a few years before moving on from the '19.

Very common issue developing in the lightning on the forum. Mine has it. It's a smooth powertrain but it has a clunk noise similar to the 21 tundra pro skid plate clunk/squeak. It does it in the front or rear when you first take off or are driving over bumps. Don't think it's mechanical but sounds like the skid plate or mount each motor is moving.

Just watched a short you tube vid about some of the lessons learned when they did a teardown of the million mile 2nd gen Tundra. Some good info in there about what they learned, mostly with the interior, bed, and drivetrain. No idea who the host was, but decent all the same.

Is that a gasser? Man, I hope that price is in Canadian dollars…

If I end up needing to tow more than I should with a half ton, maybe my grandpa will give me a good deal on his 2000 F350 SRW shortbed with the 7.3L diesel. Keep the Tundra for adventures, the F350 for towing heavy.

Well the smaller interior, smaller bed and complicated drivetrain is what kept me from pulling the plug on one late spring.
So I was not their target buyer, and I'm cool with that.

I'm not sure what the 7.3's are going for out in your neck of the woods but out here they are still doing good. I've been on hunt for a clean one myself. Very hard to find without dropping $25K. Should have never sold my 02 7.3:facepalm:

My grandparents had one with the V10 Triton gas engine. Not sure where it ended up but they sold it over 10 years ago.

A Ford I'd be thrilled to drive. Even if it does rattle the teeth out of your head.
