Not tryin to fire up a debate, but there is at least 1 company that I know of, making our LBJ's, and superior to OEM. I can confirm as I've been abusing them for close to 2 years with no issues.

 

Which is that? We think Solo could do us right, but I haven’t heard of anyone else doing us better than OEM-?

 

I could share stories of similar happening with the lead singer of a band with a similar name to this candy. Sad situation, when it happens.

Beef is definitely good. Anyway, all the LBJ failures I’ve heard about… including mine/Hulk’s… wee actually failednbolts sheering off. So I guess maybe they’re providing million mile bolts….

yep, they come with bolts. I've always thought the problem was the ball shearing off because of stressed angles. That's what I seen anyways

 

Notice in the the ad they make a clear point to state that they are in way affiliated with moog. As well as outlast OE

 

So they’ll guarantee for a million miles… unless they go out of business.

You guys can doubt, be skeptical, or whatever. I don't blame ya, and it doesn't bother me. I got my truck and the first things I learned to watch out for was timing belt and LBJ's. Then I see all the horror stories of failed LBJ's. All of which were Moogs or OEM. Thought, well if the OEM's are so common to fail, why would I want to use them as replacements? I researched quite a bit into XRF before making my decision. Unfortunately didn't take any pics, but I did set them side by side, the OEM next to the XRF's and immediately knew I'd made the right choice. I checked my dates to be able to give factual info, I installed them in February 2021, and installed their tie rod ends in April 2021. I'm not trying to sell them, buy what you want. Just offering my personal observations and experiences. I was glad to find what I believe is a better option than OEM. BTW, the balljoint is sealed, so no need to grease, and the boots are much thicker and more solid as well.

 

They've been in business for 26 years so...... there is that

I notice the vibration on start up and stationary in drive, on the brake at a light. That’s really noticible as the engine rpm drops right into the perfect vibe speed.

 

Not sure about the process of making it happen, but that thread should be added to the 1st gen info dump thread, or sticky'd somewhere. alot of good stuff in there. Thanx @spiker for the test data, and jumpin in to contribute additional info/help as well.

yes, after the motor mounts - I always had some vibration in that same scenario that would sometimes rattle something in the dash I could never figure out. Minor but I tried to track that stupid noise down several times. One of those hard to recreate things when you are trying to trouble shoot. But I think I inadvertently fixed that a while back doing something else. Regardless, with the solid mounts if I settle into the perfect rpm/harmonic, (right around 600 rpm), I can see my side mirror vibrate. It was really annoying for a minute, but doesn’t bother me now. But it is a disclaimer that it can happen. There is more vibration no doubt.

 

Hmm. I wish I knew what that was about. Left more than right?

 

I guess I will add that although it seems like a lot of my buddies on here added headers and or aftermarket exhaust, I’ve only been intrigued by a cat back setup. And since cutting my tail pipe off and turning it down at the muffler, I’m not even intrigued with that. But, I bought an air horn so go figure.

 

Sounds like you gave hyper hearing at some frequencies. I have the opposite. I also have this deaf mode that comes in handy. But, sounds like you could use a pipe change, might just be something small.

 

Any chance a different resonator is in line? I am by no means an exhaust guy. But, if my head wanted to explode every time I hit 4K, I would be cutting and welding. That sounds like a big no holds bum-F-er

 

So a few nice things to report. It’s only been 2.5 weeks but the boy seems very happy in HI at his new school, which is surprisingly important to many parents including me. It’s not a surprise it’s important our kids are happy at school, but I’ve learned this last few months that it can be a shit show. Also that it’s hard to send your kid out of state. For the moment, shit show avoided.
The boy is not a social butterfly or partier. But, he has a few new like-minded friends and some of the locals have already noticed him in a good way at the surf breaks. Yes.
And, the kid was ripping today. I’ve been watching him surf for 8 years and I saw something new in him today. Exciting to me. Enough for now, carry on.
