How much over the rear axle GAWR
Do you think an axle could take on a 2002 RWD Toyota tundra? Thanks. Neil

It’s on the door sticker, but I believe the rear GAWR is around 3860 lbs for a 2WD.

Thanks. Someone I talked to said that they thought you could go almost 3000 pounds over the recommended weight. What do you think? Sounds a little crazy to me.

It’s a semi-floating design. Probably not a whole lot more than its rating.

Okay. Thanks. That’s kind of what I was thinking.

The trouble with Toyota trucks is the massive gap between what you can do and what you should do.

Payload is one of the areas where the truck is generally considered low but capable of so much more. Unfortunately there is no legal way in North America to increase the GVWR of a non-commerical truck.

I tend towards safety and don’t want to push it. Thanks!

I was hoping that the Bilstein B6 shocks and 10 ply tires and rear airlift airbags would make it better. In fact, I’m pretty sure it made it better, but not necessarily safe.

Same axle that’s in a Tacoma is it not?

Think that covers that topic.

Don’t know what axle is in the Tacoma.

I was told the 10 ply tires are a lifesaver.

Way overkill to have a rough riding truck.

They said 10 ply tires would be good if you’re putting an RV truck camper in the back

Most likely would be overweight anyway unless you get one of those super duper light ones that don’t offer much.
