Anyone here go from a double cab Tacoma to new Tundra double cab? Curious how the back seat room compares in real life along with rear door opening size between the 2.

Specs on Toyotas website have leg room being around the same with the Tundra just having a wider seat and a bit more headroom. But size specs don’t always translate into being the same amount of room most of the time. Haven’t been able to find rear door opening dimensions anywhere so if anyone has seen those somewhere and can link them I would appreciate it.

I test drove both. At the time I test drove them I was planning on getting the Tacoma and when I test drove a double cab Tundra. It drove so much smoother than the Tacoma and from then on decided to get the Tundra instead… That said, the double cab Tundra might be a little bigger backseat leg room than the Tacoma but not by much at all. That’s why I have decided to step up to the crew max for that reason…

Leg room is about same between two. If you care about leg room get CM. If you don't care about leg room get double cab.

Mine a double cab, and with my drivers seat where I need it, no one is sitting in the back seat, forget about it.

If you are not hauling passengers get the DC, if you need people room get the crew max.

My backset is where coats, hoodies and such go. There is under seat storage and I found out behind the seat storage. I

I had a double cab Tacoma for 3 years and the back seat worked fine for us. Only time there are people back there is if I get stuck driving us to a restaurant or some other quick drive. Dogs/groceries/bike kit are what use the back seat most often and I will get more use out of the 6.5 bed vs the bigger back seat without having to feel like I’m driving a bus around w/ the crew cab 6.5 bed.

It looks to me like it has about the same leg room, but you do lose the flat cargo carrying ability that you have in the Tacoma.

Just throwing this out there for discussion since my previous truck was a 2005 Taco Access Cab.

When it comes to functionality, I think of the Tundra DC and the Taco AC as the two comparisons. Both of those truck can carry people in the backseat, but neither are really suited for it. To be honest, I wish they had a factory option to eliminate the rear seat in the DC and just have more storage. Probably why I'm so keen on snagging the Shawnee Hills Workshop rear seat delete for the DC one day. lol.

The Taco DC and the Tundra CM are both built for hauling people. If you care about hauling people (really speaking of adults here, kids are fine in a Tundra DC)...then get either the Taco DC or the Tundra CM.

I have the double cab and where my seat sits there’s plenty of room in the back seat for any reasonable passenger. I could easily move my seat forward 4+” if I needed to. It looks tighter then it really is because the seat is so big and comfy.

I wouldn’t own a double cab if they were 10k off to be honest. The crew max has so much room and on trips it’s nice to be able to fit 4 adults and everyone have enough room to sleep/chill during the ride

Everyone always mentions passengers as the only reason to not consider a double cab. Why doesn’t anyone ever mention just how great it is to have the additional inside space for storing or hauling things you don’t want in your bed?

wife and I don’t have kids. We do have a dog and camp a lot. We use every square inch of backseat space in our crew max. The extra floor space is so great.

I’d think the 6 foot bed would be totally fine for most people. And na, I need a bed. Thanks for the advice though.

Spending an extra 10k to be able to move around and be able to go on trips and what not. The tundra is my personal truck. I use it for playing and hauling paddle boards/kayaks/dogs/coolers/furniture the wife buys/and whatever else. I use my F250 for “real men shit” such as hauling a 28ft gooseneck lol the wifey will be getting the sequoia when it comes out.

2016 DCAB tacoma v6 to 2018 tundra crew cab

2016 backseat for me @ 5-8 had my knees hitting the back drivers seat with the wife sliding the seat forward (she's 5-4)

2018 crew cab for me had about 4-8in of space between knees and back of seat when the spouse drove. the big difference was the width. you are no longer cramped width wise in the tundra in the font and especially the back seat.

might be that its easier to do a seat delete in the tacoma than a tundra.
