…how good the cruise control is with TSS. The radar works well in stop and go traffic. I set the distance to the closest possible and 30 mph. And I’m averaging 10 mph and it’s following nicely. Even stops and goes, though it feels weird. 75B87387-D223-4E28-87F8-EFC6C441984C.jpg

Today I learned I can turn off the beeping when accidently driving over the lines, and instead switch to having the steering wheel vibrate. You can also adjust sensitivity level as well and it makes the truck much less annoying on road. Didn't realize it's a simple setting change with the steering wheel.

What is the extent of radar cruise? Will it completely stop or is there a minimum speed before it shuts off? Haven't tested the speed range on my wifes 22 Highlander yet.

I tried it the other day.. I was on the highways and followed a car up the ramp and it brought itself to a complete stop and pulled away from the stop and followed the car in front speed until I tapped the brakes.. kind of cool and scary in a way… all these neat features basically make it easy for people to forget that they are driving and divert their attention to other things.. “ cell phone “

I remember when I got my license… you actually had to know how to drive, and back up, parallel park etc… pretty sure nowadays people don’t even know what mirrors are for other then to hold the blind spot monitoring lights lol..

I too really enjoy this feature, use it everyday! My biggest complaint is if the vehicle in front of me changes lanes or gets into a turn lane, the Tundra still wants to slow down dramatically, thinking it's still in front of me.

Auto cruise control is the best. Really came in handy when I got stuck behind a military convoy on a 2 lane highway doing anywhere from 30 to 55 mph. There was no chance I was passing, so I just set my cruise for 70 and let the radar do the work. I also like to have lane centering on when I am on the highway. The truck basically drives itself. Lane centering comes in really handy when it is windy out as well. I generally shut it off completely in town though, it can get a bit annoying.

    on this note
    - every time i start the truck, cruise is 'off', i first have to turn it on before i can set cruise. Never had a vehicle that didn't remember it being on. Am I doing something wrong? Seems crazy as, again unlike most other vehicles I have had, this truck seems to remember a lot of other things like steering wheel heat on, seat heat or seat cooling. never had a vehicle that remembered those after turning it off/on
    - radar cruise seems to be default, but can't find where to turn it off. Can this be done, how?

On the few occasions I have used the radar cruise it has worked remarkably well.
Or just turn it off completely. I live in a rural area and it's annoying as hell on the narrow 2 lane wandering roads around here. I only turn it on when I'm on a highway.
Strange. I don't recall ever having a vehicle that cruise remained on through a key off/on cycle.

to clarify I don't mean the speed set being saved, i just mean start up the vehicle, drive, hit SET, and cruise is set. from my late model hondas, f150, sierra denali, all behaved this way where you just hit set speed, never had to turn the cruise system 'on'

My wife's Caddy saves the cruise on/off setting like this, but my prior Lincoln did not save the setting. So it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. You get used to remembering to turn it on, but what gets tricky is when you have a car that remembers and one that doesn't. I always turn hers off by accident when I drive it, and have to turn it back on to set a speed.

That's what I assumed you meant, having to turn the cruise system ON before hitting the speed set button would do anything. My 3 previous vehicles (4Runner, Subaru WRX, 1st gen Taco) were all that way. You had to "turn on" cruise control before you could set the speed. In hind sight, maybe you could hit set speed and it would automatically "turn on" cruise control and set the speed. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I ever tried.

It’s Nice having both options to set cruise @ speed or using the radar… sometimes I’m in a hurry and set for a certain speed and forget to use the other setting instead of radar and end up driving slower and not realize I’m following the car in front..

It's done via the menus in the middle of the gauge cluster if I remember correctly. To disable the system completely you hold down the steering wheel button until the system turns off.

I need to test if you can turn on just standard cruise control versus radar cruise control. On my 3rd gen Tacoma if you long pressed the on button for cruise control it would do standard versus radar. Next time I drive, or someone can confirm it, try long pressing the cruise control button to see if it will act like an old-school cruise control.

How do you not tell you're slowing down? When my wife is driving, she always uses radar cruise and I don't even have to look to know we're behind a slow car because I can feel it, regardless of whether I'm distracted entertaining our daughter or whatever.

That's interesting. I've had several vehicles with radar cruise control and none of them "remembered" the last setting once the truck was turned off. Tundra just seemed normal to me, now - what the heck, come on Toyota! LOL

when you press the button to turn on cruise, hold the cruise button to turn off radar cruise until the radar icon disappears and the center display will throw up a notification that radar is turned off.

also note, cruise will always reset back to radar cruise on initial turn on.

I looked this morning while i was in the truck. On the digital panel in the gauge cluster, go to the gear icon (settings). Go to LTA (Lane Tracing Assist) and hold down the OK button to get to detailed settings. Change alert from the speaker icon to the steering wheel vibrate icon.

also another thing, if you hold the radio power button down for 5-10 seconds, it will soft reboot the head unit while the vehicle is on or driven.

this applies to all toyota head units across all models.

i think this also applies to the radar cruise if i remember correctly.
