I’m probably one of a very small % of people that actually likes the fake “V8” sound that these trucks make. However, I look at it like this: porn is fake, but it’s still fun to watch..

Normally i would be disgusted by someone liking a fake engine sound on a modern car, but then i remembered that V6's normally sound like complete trash and a V8 can give a geriatric patient a boner so I can't be that mad at you.

The real shame here is that a real V8 isnt an option. I blame Toyota and the EPA.

I barely pay attention to the sound. Its not like it is constantly rumbling anyway.

I can't stand it. Knowing I have a v6 while hearing v8 sounds from the speakers just drives me crazy for some reason. Definitely having it turned off when I go in for the 5k service.

It doesn’t seem fake to me.
As far as the truck sound, I’ve never heard it.

First time I stomped on it I had no idea what was happening. Had the window cracked open. Thought it was someone next to me putting it to the floor. Good times!

wait until external speakers are standard across all vehicles for this pedestrian federal law and they pump engines noise for them. they already have it for full electric vehicles and i know of some high profile sports cars they already have external speakers.

i think Porsche has them as an option.

I don't mind the fake noise either. It isn't overpowering or obnoxious at all. Sure the sound may be artificial, but the power is very real. Also, I don't particularly care for loud exhaust anymore after living in a house that backs up to a moderately busy intersection. Loud exhaust loses its novelty after about the 35th Mustang practices their 0-40 pull coming out of the intersection in a day. I guess that makes me a grumpy old man now.

Meh..given the choice between being a participant and observer - I’d choose participation.

I mean to me it’s no different than fake hood scoops on a vehicle - do I prefer they serve a purpose - yes. I don’t like them when they are “just for looks” - but sometimes you don’t get the choice.

I mean you “can” have a V8 - you just have to buy a 2.5 - or you can have fake noise and buy a 3.

If the noise is an important feature - buy the V8. If the changes and appearance of the 3 are your thing / go with it - so long as your buying a Toyota.

Cars doing the same thing - so it’s not going away anytime soon. I mean - I get people wanting their EV to sound like something it’s not in a way - but I’d rather real than fake any day.

When looking at a hot chick in porn I know what I'm looking at. When fake noise has to be pumped in because they already knew the embarrassment the V6 was its absolutely not the same. We're going to sell you these awesome Prius tires for the same price as Nitto's but plug in this SD Card and sound will be pumped in to make it sound like your climbing rocks at Moab even though you're stuck on the speedbump at the entrance gate. I wonder if Toyota can fake the sound of a good stereo in my 2019.

    Seriously, had a few 4Runners and bro’s business has a few 2nd gen Tundra’S.
The third gen rocks in comparison. 389 crank HP is nothing because it does’t sound like a V8? My Rig running Dirty Deeds muffler with a 12 in resonator sounds pretty good. If I want rumbling and screaming, then I’d get a Roush F150 SC.

I thought about making this exact same thread but maybe leaving the analogy out of it LOL. I enjoy the fake V8 sound. I think they did a really good job on not making it sounds too fake and lets be honest here we have V6s we will never get the V8 sounds no matter what type of exhaust you put on there. On top of that it prevents me from spending too much money on an exhaust when I can get a nice soothing sound coming from the truck. I'm all for it! I will say it might be better to make it easier for people to disable it if they want to. I cannot imagine it is too hard to program that into a setting.

Agreed, it would be nice if they had it configurable in the screen or something. Easy way to appease everybody. Alternatively, you can pick up a carista for like $25 and just disable it.

I have a 3rd gen hybrid. Maybe I'm a nerd, but driving with the windows down, listening to the electric motors and turbos working together is vastly more interesting than any v8 noise, real or fake. I'm ready to turn the fake v8 engine sound off all together just to hear the actual truck working.

I’ve got a hybrid coming, can you actually hear a whine or hum or something from the electric motors? I’ve driven plenty of small hybrids (Prius, RAV4, etc.) and never noticed sound from the motors at anything above slow neighborhood speeds.

I don't know that you hear the actual motors, but you hear a lot of 'electrical noise' if that makes any sense. This is for sure the loudest hybrid system I've ever heard.
