So, I took my truck in a week ago to have my 5,000 mile service done, as well as the safety recall and service campaign. While those three were completed, I asked them to look into the constant “parking brake malfunction” alert that sporadically appears, and asked them to look into why my connected services aren’t working anymore.

I got a call on Thursday saying that they figured out the internet issues in the truck, and replaced the caliper actuator which should have fixed the parking brake alert. I was out of town, so I picked up the truck today and dropped off the rental they gave me, and opened the door to find my driver side power seat panel cracked.

Now, I’m not a small guy. I’m 6’3 280 pounds, have had the truck for 8 months, and haven’t had an issue. I left the truck there for 6 days, and it has a crack. I’m confused as to how it was broken that quickly? It’s being ordered and replaced, but just frustrating.

I also was driving on my way home, and the parking brake alert pops up again, and connected services are still not working. Needless to say I’m very frustrated. Does Toyota even know what they’re doing with this truck?

The dealers literally have no idea what they are doing. Amazing to me that they released this truck with no proper dealer training.

That’s evident. Aside from the seat being cracked, (which the dealer is handling properly), I can’t really be upset with them. They’ve already stated they basically go in blind with these things and it’s all trial and error. They’re more than likely going to have to get Toyota involved on these directly.

I could be wrong but I thought the parking brake issue only happens if you turn your truck off too fast after you put it park. My truck makes a swooshing sound when it goes in park. I had that error pop up once on mine but it was definitely because I killed the engine too quick.

This happens while driving, well after being out of park. Just randomly pops up and never has anything to do with the brakes.

Well. Another crazy dealer story. Don't worry SithLord92. I've got this here special tool that we use to get your dealer story onto the top of the pile of all the previous dealer stories.

When the Service writer asks me if the motor mounts are part of the emergency brake system it doesnt give you a warm and fuzzy about her car knowledge

Yikes, that isn’t reassuring whatsoever. I do think that Toyota handled this very poorly though. There was no training or model for mechanics/techs to study when these came out, they literally just started selling to customers and now it’s biting them in the ass because these guys are clueless on what to do.
