I ended up buying the cheapest 2014+ 1794 with under 150k miles within 500 miles of my house, well to be fair tied for the cheapest I could find. I also live in the rust belt so there may be a little crusty content in this thread.

First things first, the brackets that attach the side steps were the crustiest thing on the truck so those had to go.

    IMG_1455.jpg

I was missing a floor mat so I went with the husky mats (yes I'm missing the sill plate, it was gross I've got a replacement in the mail)

New tires go on tomorrow with an alignment

I ordered a cheap filter housing socket from Amazon to change my oil and this happened. Thankfully advance auto had a stamped steel version in stock. I updated to the metal filter housing.

This weekend is going to be a lot of interior cleaning and if it shows up installing a head unit!

Thanks! It's a great 20 footer, but I think with a little TLC it's going to be really solid.

Sorted out a few things today. Got the tires mounted and balanced (no pictures). But I got the truck aligned and jeez is it so much betterIMG_1469.jpg

And a package from crutchfield showed up so I slammed in the new head unit! Install wasn't too bad and I've got steering wheel controls + carplay now. I did lose XM which I don't care about and also factory nav which should be fine, I generally have cell signal or download google maps for the area.

I have to drill out a broken antenna for the sake of my ocd then I'm just going to enjoy the truck for a while. I'll probably be driving it to northern Michigan here in about a month.

I'm bored and working on cars relaxes me so I knocked out a belt tensioner, idler pulley and belt. I had a bit of a belt chirp, but that seems to be gone now.
    IMG_1481.jpg IMG_1485.jpg

And tonight I knocked out the spark plugs real quick, honestly they all looked pretty good as did the coils. There was minimal oil on the threads on the passenger side so I'd guess my valve cover gasket is on it's way out, but that seems like not a relaxing job so I'll ignore it for a bit. I'm assuming they're stock with ~108k miles on them:

Picked up a full 1 MPG on the highway with the new spark plugs and the truck just seems happier. Slapped in some LED replacement bulbs all around the interior and exterior today.

Dug into the front brakes tonight, went with the powerstop kit because I've had good luck with them on other vehicles and some fresh acdelco pins. It honestly went super smooth and my brake rattle/scraping sound is gone. I need to bed them in tomorrow or this weekend, but hopefully they're better. The only thing I can't figure out, it seems like after 2015 the caliper bolts changed to 19mm and I'm not sure if their torque spec changed? I ran the caliper bolts down to 90ftlbs with some red loctite and called it good

I did discover that my lug nuts are in shambles, some were pretty chewed up, some were swollen too so I ordered 20 fresh ones.

Found the same thing on my 2016, bought it about a month ago. Looked like someone had an impact socket half way on and torqued the crap out of them. Had ridges that stopped the socket. New lug nuts came today.

Yeah honestly my fault for not noticing, I checked balljoints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, but never had to take the wheel off. I'm surprised the tire shop didn't say something and just jammed them back on.

Well the last maintenance thing I've been chasing I thought was a squeak, someone said it sounded like an exhaust leak so I replaced the gaskets right behind the cats and it seems to be pretty quiet now. Fingers crossed it stays that way. At least I replaced everything with stainless hardware so it won't be miserable if I have to pull it apart again.

Did you use a socket or just the 3/8” drive ratchet on the oil filter housing? I’ve seen the better ones break using the 3/8” drive also.

just the 3/8” drive, I'm still surprised though.

I’ve changed exhaust on multiple tundras over the years so I’m very familiar with this struggle. I always try to remove the bolts, but always end up having to cut off the welded but every time, at least living in PA like we do. :sawzall:Those gaskets are also always shot!

I'm committed that my Wrangler is not going outside in the winter, I'm only dealing with rust on one car haha I'm very happy I was able to get a sawzall to all of the bolts I needed to. I didn't see a lot of info on the internet about those gaskets getting trashed, but you're now the second person to tell me that. It also looked like at some point someone filled the flanges with muffler cement to likely cover up the leak.

Let my detailer deal with the interior, it was crusty and the headliner was rough. They also washed it real quick, but they also uncovered some clearcoat failure around the drivers door handle :censored: Originally I was going to do a DiY ceramic coat, but I may need to deal with the clear coat first, still shines up well though.

This truck really is an onion with how many layers of odd choices the previous owner made. It's finally getting chilly out and one of the headlights started filling with condensation. I wanted to see if it was just a loose bulb or something before a long road trip, but when I went to loosen the first screw the cheapie Amazon light started disintegrating.

    IMG_1586.jpg

Not to mention half of the clips were either missing or broken and there were 3 different types of screws holding the lights in. Luckily I found a set of Morimotos that I could get before the weekend, unfortunately FedEx beat the crap out of the box and chipped both corners (I've got a claim in).
