I’m thinking about spraying plasti dip or hyperdip over the grey letters on my 21 pro grill. Once blacked out I was going to put red vinyl decals on the face of the letters. Just wondering if they will stick good enough. As I was writing this I just had the idea of just using red plasti dip on the letters maybe. I don’t want to permanently spray letter until I see how I like the look for awhile. Does anyone know if the letters on a pro grill can be removed? I will not be home for a few more weeks so I can’t look at my grill to see how they are attached. Would love to get some impute or ideas from the group. I have my bumper caps plastidipped for 2 years now, and they still look perfect. The iforce badge and tundra badge are plastidip. Atleast 2 years maybe 3

I’ve seen a lot of post on here about people using plasti dip. I never payed too much attention to it, because I just felt like it would not look good and would not last very well, until just lately. My curiosity finally got the better of me so I started surfing YouTube and watching video about using it and now I’m sold. Never knew that it was so easy to use and held up so well. Also didn’t know that they spray entire vehicles with the stuff and that it so easy to remove if done right and that it doesn’t hurt the paint at all. While watching all the video I came across a newer product call hyperdip that even look even better with more of a glossy finish that has a ever better paint appearance. I’ve already ordered the red vinyl decals for my letters but now that I have been thinking about it I think I may buy a can of the red hyperdip and try to just spray the grey part of the letters. Yours really turned out good and looks to have held out really great. Thanks for sharing.

Why not just put the red decals on the letters? Should be able to peel off in the future and leave minimal residue. I'm not really understanding how the plasti-dip is assisting you (assuming black plasti-dip followed by red vinyl).

I just used plasti-dip for the first time recently and was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. I don't think you would have issues with the vinyl sticking to cured plasti-dip.

I was just going to use the decals but the decals only cover the face of the letter so the sides of the letters will still be gray. I think the gray letters kinda look out of place because there is no other gray on the outside of the truck. Just don’t care for the gray and I want to play with plasti dip.

Can totally get down with the reasoning! Plasti-dip is affordable and reversible. Play away lol

Yeah I’ve seen a few videos saying to use a tooth pick. I didn’t see your second picture at first. I like the rod holders. I’ve thought about doing something like that. Emblems look nice.

As far as the red vinyl over the plastidip, it should work if the surface of the plastidip coat is smooth. I'd suggest covering the front of the letters with tape or vinyl while applying the plastidip and sticking the red vinyl onto the stock surface.

I can answer your question exactly. I had “blacked out” my letters with plasti-dip.
Found someone cutting letters in a brown shade that matched close enough.
I applied the letters over the dip and they adhere fine, however they are not smooth due to the texture of the dip.

Eventually I removed the letters, hit them with a coat of flat black and added a new set of vinyl letters over top.

I agree with OP @Rangergillikin the gray outline of the letters also drove me nuts.

Yeah I’ve seen video that said it had textured look to it. I ordered red hyper dip today. Going to just spray the letters red to see how that comes out first. If that doesn’t look good I’ll try the decals. Thanks for the sharing your experience.

Hyper dip is suppose to be like plasti dip but it looks more like a paint with a smooth finish, glossy appearance and suppose to be more wear resistant. Dipyourcar.com sells both products and has a lot of good videos about how to use both. This will be my first time every using either product so we will see.

The TRD logo on the grill is vinyl over plasti-dip. Lasted for over 3 years. The plasti-dip gave up before the vinyl did.

that’s good to know. I figured they should stick pretty good. Looks good. Thanks

Hyper dip is so much better. Much more smoother application. But a different process sorta speak with it.

I used hyper dip on my wife’s rav4 and it has a really nice smooth finish. Highly recommend if you want something a little nicer looking. It had metallic flakes in it too that added a nice touch to the wheels.

I’ve seen that it does take a slightly different process laying it down but it looks simple enough. From what I’ve seen it really does look better and smoother than plasti dip. Coast more but will be worth it.

That really looks awesome. I never would have guessed that was a dip. How well is it holding up.

It was holding up fine enough but my wife wanted a different look for the vehicle so I removed it. It peels off nicer than plastidip too. I’m curious to try the bronze colorway on my own wheels. Will update if so.

Did you remove it? Did she not like the black wheels? Or did it start to come off

If used correctly, Plasti dip is a great product, with some limitations. I did an old pair of Lexus wheels, 1 can per wheel and drive them right through the winter with no problems. Held up just fine.
